Has anyone called Mike Leach? Come on Rick, at least pick up the phone and ask if he wants to come here and coach basketball.
-
I have heard that the Big 10 has told Pelini that they will not put up with his tirades during games like the Big 12 did. Heard it on one of the sport talk shows, can't remember which.

I think the inference here is the tone used. I agree folks have an opinion, but not like Riley has been slammed most especially by DG. His posts concerning Knox have been off base as well. Being a donor and attending functions does not buy him the right to run an athlete down in the manner which he has. I donate and attend functions as well, but I have not seen this as one of the benefits.

Doubt they are shopping around as a package, I mean are they going to pull out Southlake Carroll tapes and hope nobody asks what happened at UNT?
-
First, thank you Riley for your efforts while playing here at UNT. I wish you nothing but the best. I am not surprised by his decision to transfer. No idea what discussions he has had with Coach Mccarney or Canales the past few weeks. However, I did not think Riley would go into the season as the starter just because of his tendency to get hurt due to his size, and given that, most especially under a first year head coach whom has, as well as the fanbase, a lot of expectations going into the new stadium and the future of the program. Not saying he was run off, but....

Coach Fran Jr Resigns From Blinn

Has Blinn called Leach? -
The foot bridge across 35 would have to be done by the state and done so to fit future plans for expansion of that part of 35, which I guess is still light years away. As for the thought these folks should have thought about all of this, the master plan floated around Denton for years was that the University would expand east, bordered by Eagle, Hickory, and Carroll. So if they had checked 15, or 20 years ago nobody thought the stadium would be built where it is. Of course the athletic plans changed when the Liberty property fell into UNT's lap. Also, one of these "Morons" as some call is a former chair of the board of regents and very generous donors to our athletic program for years. They live in an addition that includes several $250K + homes, adjacent to the athletic center property. Lets be careful who we lump into the "Moron" group. As for routing down Willowood, and McCormick, just station some parking security people, be it the parking people we used at Fouts or the students who work for the UNT Police, throughtout that part of Denia with the plastic barricade things and only let people with valid id/reasons onto the other streets. If they park and leave the area, tow them. If the TX Motor Speedway can move the amount of cars it does in a few hours, surely an educated city like Denton can move 1800 cars, which is on the high side in my opinion since most parking will still be where it is by Fouts now.

Remember, most of the rest of the games are double headers meaning actual start time is 7:30. No excuses, be there!

Lots of Austin area kids don't sign with Texas, so what? I think a local kid signing up at the local university is not always in the best interest of either party. -
Should Nt Refuse To Play Utsa And Tsu-Sm (In Football) ?
Green Dozer replied to Texas Stranger's topic in Mean Green Football
They get more press here than any place else. Let's fill the stadium and beat Houston! We have many challenges ahead of us to even give UTSA or TX State more than a "who cares" yawn. -
The day after Mccarney press conference, when he was officially named head coach, the ticket office had 89 NEW deposits for season tickets. That may sound small, but that is a big step for this program to get that many in one day. That did not happen the day after Dodge was hired. Yes, the stadium is also coupled with the change in the head coach, but I think it is still very positive that people believe we are starting to act like big boys.

Patterson is a great football coach. That said I hope he is smart enough to know that he is a good fit for TCU and TCU is a good fit for him.

Will be interesting to see if Leavitt is mentioned for this job, given his Florida connections.
-
Now if only we can get him to get the name straight, we will be even prouder.
-
Well, we only have 2 shots at a bowl.

I do not disagree with the positive things that have been said in this thread regarding Riley. If our defensive tackles were as competetive as Riley, just think where we would be. Unfortunately, you are always one play away from losing your starting quarterback, or any other player for that matter. With Riley, the chances of him being injured are much higher just because of his size, and due to previous injuries. Coach Mccarney is not going to have as much time to turn this thing around as Dodge did, nor do I think he wants the time. That said, I do not believe Riley will be the starter next year.
-
Did they at least call Leach?
-
Interesting that Leavitt's name has not come up with Miami given the Florida ties.

I would put this board up against anybody!

If Greg Davis Gets The Boot From Ut
Green Dozer replied to H-towngreen's topic in Mean Green Football
First of all, Major would be Davis's replacement. That has been the talk the last few weeks. And I don't understand the obsession with him either as a coach. Great fighter as a player, but calling the plays as a coach? He was calling the plays when ULM beat Bama. Also, there is no way Mack Brown is going to let a new offensive coordinator have a say in the offensive assistants. Muschamp didn't when he came to UT. -
Pat Forde on ESPN mentioned Dan Mullen, Miss State coach looking into Miami job and Leach ending up at Miss State. Not sure if anything to it, but I cannot imagine Leach in Starkville, Ms.
-
A fan and now a friend...real interesting story. Leach and his daughter went to Trump Tower to meet Trump on a trip to New York because Leach had read one of his books. Anyway, he did not get in, but somebody told Trump some guy who coaches football in West Texas wanted to meet him. Anyway, Trump ended up calling Leach, and the next time Leach was in New York, they met. Trump did the intro to the game when they beat Texas a couple of years ago. Takes balls to just walk in and ask to speak to the Don.

No, thank you Coach Mac for building credibility with the parents and coaches of these young men. They will tell their neighbors and other players that we are a program who keeps our word.
