Hank asked JJ about TT directly, and he basically said when a ball was on the ground, we would stand and just look at it. Obviously, that comment was about TT. But like JJ said, Florida Atlantic set the tone the first 5 minutes of the game.

Is A Postpone Of The Fau Game Possible
Green Dozer replied to sparkmank's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Miner, I understand it is a marketing ploy, and respect your opinion. But we have a winning team, though not as good right now as we would like, but a lots of others would trade for our success in bb over the past few years. I just think these "on the fence" fans just need to start showing up because they are true fans and supporters, no matter what. I am tired of "when we get in a better conference, move past a first round game, etc." excuses. I don't know what it will take, but minor league marketing tactics will still cheapen it. Fans show up in other college towns all across the United States for games without having to have a nickel beer and bat night (Rangers really did that one time.) -
And a Denton County sand truck to boot!

Is A Postpone Of The Fau Game Possible
Green Dozer replied to sparkmank's topic in Mean Green Basketball
No offense to you, but the Stars played last night at the AAC and did not lower their prices. Why do we want to continue to find any excuse, weather related or not, to cheapen any part our athletic program? -
I am sure they would re-schedule for the first part of next week. It is bad up here in Denton, the electric company is performing rolling blackouts due to the demand on the electrical grid.

I cannot remember exactly how it was said last night, but Coach McCarney alluded to the fact that North Texas is a "sleeping giant". I have been in Denton since 1972, and I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have heard this. I have even heard the same thing was said in the 60's. For the most part, it was directed at the football program. I know a lot of us are tired of hearing the "sleeping giant" bit, but at least there is real thunder this time, and it is time North Texas caught some lightning in the bottle. I could not help think last night that the athletic department and football staff had better get things right this time with the decisions that have been made the last few months. McCarney is right, there are no excuses! If anything, they can look out their window and see about 70 million reasons to FINALLY get this thing on track, heading in the right direction, and staying there. I do not think that there can be another person (new coach or athletic director) stand at a podium in the near future, and say what a "sleeping giant" this program is and do so with any credibility, and have the support (yes, there is a lot of room for improvement) that we do right now. If there is a change in say the coach or AD positions, it had better be that one is leaving for a better job, has brought the program as far as he can and change is needed, etc. But it cannot be because the overall program, mostly football, is not having success and has jumped off track. This may very well be the last stand! *Note: Please don't read into "last stand" comment as it is going to die as that is not what I mean. What I mean is that it had better become a program that is perceived as being relevant in college football or we will make the naysayers right.

Excerpt From Coach Mac's Speech At The Fb Banquet
Green Dozer replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I was ready to run through a wall!!! Anybody out there who has not heard Coach McCarney speak is in for a great treat. We have a real-live college football coach that will lead our team onto the field next year. -
Has anyone been invited to a "closed practice". That was on the chart last year as well.

TT has 30 points!

Glad TT has gotten JJ's message, and hope he stays out of the doghouse for the rest of the year!

Hank just mentioned on the basketball broadcast that the football banquet is a sellout, and that NO tickets will be available at the door. Here's hoping that the next ticket related sellout for football is September 10th!

Dr-C Article On Stojkovic
Green Dozer replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
We are not the only program that does not have much success recruiting hometown talent. Look, Denton has produced some good players, especially out of Ryan and Guyer over the past several years. But, I agree with what Stojkovic said. I think a Div 1 player has a big adjustment from high school ball to Div 1 (as did some coaches from recent memory) and while there are more than enough distractions for a player going off to college, I tend to think there would be additional distractions in your hometown. I.E.: family, non college friends, church, high school sweetheart who does not go off to college, buddies still playing on your old high school team, Friday night games, etc. Everything being equal between two prospects except hometown, I would rather give the scholly to the player where say Denton was not his hometown. -
You compete with 3 other members of the Big 12 Conference + OU in this state, or so they think, for recruits. Then you cancel a game in probably its most fertile ground as recruiting goes, and you STILL cancel when TCU offers to move the game to Cowboys Stadium. But you keep your games with Nevada and New Mexico. Here is the link: TECH CANCELS NEXT YEAR'S GAME WITH TCU

Per an e-mail from Jessica Hulsebosch, a coordinator with the Mean Green Club: "The Football Banquet this Friday, January 21st, will begin a half hour earlier than previously advertised with the doors opening at 6:30pm and the program beginning at 7pm. If you have any questions please contact the Mean Green Club offices at 940-369-7284. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Thank you so much for the correction. 5 points is a huge difference, and I should have remembered that since it has only been 31 years.

At tonight's game Spud Webb and Mark Aguire were in attendance. There were 3 of us on my row who saw Mark Aguire play at The Pit when he was at Depaul. We stopped him and let him know. He was really cool and said he remembered it as one of the closest game he ever played in. Depaul was ranked in the Top 10 and won by 1 point. He said they had no idea Blakley's squad was so good and thought they would have an easy game. Aguire, who was the Mav's first pick ever, also said some random fan told him he would be drafted by the Mavericks. He thought no way he would ever come to Texas. As for Webb, somebody said we are recruiting his son. Maybe a recruiting person could comment on that.

Leavitt
Green Dozer replied to DeepGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Leavitt is not the coach here, was not gonna be the coach, and in the end, we made a good hire. Leavitt could not even get a good reference from one of his former assistants here. Mccarney got good references from both coaches here with whom he had coached with before. Can we just move on or do we need a Leavitt forum? -
Wardly is not Mrs. Dodge. He is a long time supporter and donor of the athletic program. Yes, he could have used better tact than "jerk".

I Know Tefalon Todd Is Gone, But Might He Be Going To Sfa?
Green Dozer replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
Harry, Could we please get a forum dedicated to Todd Dodge and his family? Maybe Alan Samuels could sponsor it for you. -
If "conduct unbecoming" is not in any of the UNT coaches' contracts, somebody is not doing their job. And while she will probably say she was going to the defense of her team, there are other avenues to take and not cross the line as it appears she did.
