I'm confused how Texas State and UTSA are going to be FBS by 2012. How does that work? I like Texas State, but I went to their last home game against Central Arkansas and their little 15k stadium was only half full (1/3 full by halftime). UTSA doesn't even field a team. Are there no longer minimum attendance figures or stadium sizes?

Well...your probably not going to get any more insight after you just blabbed it on a message board. You remind me of someone...Are you sure you're not my wife?

You know... right after firing Dodge, Rick V. mentioned something about Coach Canales correcting some situations that needed correcting. I thought that was a very odd statement at the time. Maybe that was in regards to what you're talking about?

It's okay...I love you anyway Eagle-96.

Dude....... really? It was probably the biggest upset for Tulsa in quite some time. People get a little excited sometimes. Maybe it was accidental. Maybe Notre Dame fans were harassing the band. I don't know, but it's really nothing to get your panties in a twist over...

Mack Brown Reveals His Approach To Coaching...
MeanGreenTeeth replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
I think he was just throwing his coaches under the bus... You don't spend $5M a year on a guy for him to pass the buck. I don't think I'd get far blaming my staff if my department was floundering. -
Jim Leavitt Is Interested In Unt Job
MeanGreenTeeth replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
We'll... had he just roughed a kid up a little I think a second chance would be a no brainer. The cover-up (if true) speaks a little to a lack of integrity though. -
Bower wouldn't be my first choice, but can someone explain all the hate? He's the type of guy who seems to get 7-8 wins a season consistently. Probably not the type of guy who'd get us consistently ranked, but it would be at least nice to have winning seasons. Is there something I'm missing?

I don't care if he's John Elway, they are still not going to win. As mediocre as our lines have been, they'd greatly overmatch ACU (I'm so depressed I even have to discuss this. Sign of the times I guess). Tell you what. Call Dodge and have him schedule the game . I'll give you 14 points. -

Guys.. we are bad, really bad, but I think everyone needs to keep a little perspective. We'd beat ACU by at least 4 touchdowns if we played them. The difference in the quality of athlete we have if pretty large. Even if Dodge is football Trilli, this isn't basketball and we'd cream any Division II team we faced. We'd probably cream 75% of the 1-AAs as well. -

Ummm... actually yeah. I would put my life savings on us beating ACU. -

You've been lurking for years? We'll you've got a lot of pressing issues to catch up on. I'll throw a lucky 13 off the top of my head...... 1. UNT vs. North Texas? 2. Eagle Claw - How many fingers and should we care? 3. What should be on our Helmet? 4. Green jersey? White jersey? Pants? Shoes? 5. What's up with the 'tail' on the new stadium? 6. Scrappy or Eppy? 7. Kelly Green, Hunter Green, Booger Green? 8. WAC? C-USA? Build the Belt? 9. Did Fry kill the program by leaving the MVC? 10. Where's the 3-D Eagle? 11. Tired of "Fly like an Eagle"? 12. Are the band routines boring or just really complex arrangements? 13. Bring back the flying worm? -
Realistically anyone we hire is going to be some degree of an experiment. Sounds like a long shot, but let the guy interview. Maybe he will blow em away. Shoot, we've been pretty happy with our AD and he's just a guy who owned a few Domino's Pizzas.

Oh.. I didn't realize you were flipping the bill for this one. Cool. Change my response to 'Nick Saban'. I hear he is pretty good.

You realize we're going to have a hard time even getting a highly rated coordinator or FCS HC don't you? I'd be thrilled to get either. Part of the reason Dodge got another year is because there simply aren't any slam dunk coaches we are in a position to get.

A Break From Planning Dodge's Demise
MeanGreenTeeth replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
To be honest, I think the agreement is very poorly drafted. I'm not a lawyer and if you are Stebo I'll defer to your judgement. To me though the outcome is very silly. Your reading is that if BYU joined the conference they'd owe the money. Since they didn't they don't. However, the whole reason that BYU didn't join is because those 2 schools left (which defeated the purpose of the contract). My reading is that the contract was in effect prior to BYU joining and only "terminated" (did not "void") the contract when they did not join (or when the schools left which is what actually happened). I think section 9 clarifies the ambiguity of section 4. It's probably moot though as there probably won't be a WAC soon. -

MeanGreenTeeth replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
That's actually not true. The agreement stated that the agreement would be terminated if BYU didn't join Sept 1. The contract was not voided and was in effect prior to Sept 1. This makes perfect sense if you think about it. You can't sign a contract contingent on an event occurring and then by your actions sabotage that very event. The only thing that is not clear to me is if only the first school who announced leaving would be liable or if both would be liable (technically the agreement terminated, I think, when an existing member other than Boise State or LA Tech left). But yes, I do agree the WAC is most likely dead. -
New U Of Houston Facilities Upgrades
MeanGreenTeeth replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, they are pretty far off. Just as far as we are really. Who would add them? Only real possibility would be Big East and they are way, way out of the footprint. -
$$$.. BYU and UTAH were both solid teams...but the real thing is the loss of the market. BYU and UTAH had followings and ratings. The league has now dropped a lot in exposure. Boise State and TCU are both excellent football teams now, but there is no real reason to believe they will be 10 years from now. BYU has the best program even if TCU and Boise currently have much better teams.
-
Andy Katz is reporting that BYU is going independent with a news conference later today. Other sports to the WCC. How does that impact us?

I think what will be most interesting is where enrollments will be in ten more years. UNT should be at the 45k-50k mark. U of H, Texas State, UTSA, and Tech are all going to be sniffing around that same mark I think (with UTA and UTEP not far behind). As these schools all cap enrollment I suspect within a few years all the colleges will have pretty similar admission requirements and SAT scores. I can't imagine this will sit well with UT and A&M.
-
I doubt the official requirements will change much if any, but capping enrollment will effectively make UNT more selective by not accepting everyone who meets the base requirements.
-
I think UNT has a very nice campus, but I woudn't say it is an especially pretty campus though. It kind of reminds of the UT campus in a lot of ways. I think for what its worth TWU has a much prettier campus.
