ACC Championship Game - Biggest Non-UNT game of the year?
MeanGreenTeeth replied to SHOSS's topic in Mean Green Football
Clemson wins 38-35. Seth Littrell goes full Woody Hayes on Clemson back who intercepts the game winning touchdown pass. RV still sucks. -
Sidway thinks Littrell is still in the mix
MeanGreenTeeth replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We don't have a bunch of evidence that there is an announcement tomorrow. Hell, can an agreement even be drawn up in time? This is all very odd. It may well happen, but I don't think I would have published a bunch of third or fourth hand information like Brett did. -
DMNews: UNT down to Littrell and Meacham
MeanGreenTeeth replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Ha. If this in true (and it is a big if), my guess is that Littrel was really impressive in the interview and it is up to Meacham to knock him out. I don't really follow TCU or UNC closely enough to know who'd I'd prefer. Would Littrel be willing to take a new job prior to the ACC Conference championship or would we have to wait until afterwards? -
DMNews: UNT down to Littrell and Meacham
MeanGreenTeeth replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Probably because he sucks. -
and what specifically do you like about him?

Hey Iowa State, go get Kendal Briles or Lincoln Riley ASAP
MeanGreenTeeth replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
That's exactly right. Iowa State is a much tougher gig than UNT all in all. They might be able to afford to pay their coaches a little more, however, given their share of the Big 12 pot. Plus no one really wants to live in Ames. -
Jeff Wilson and DaMarcus Smith post Texas at San Antonio win
MeanGreenTeeth replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The should be a Jeff Wilson post-game drinking game. A shot for every "man". There might be fatalities. -
It's like I'm living in an alternate universe... I thought the idea was to get a coach who can win a lot of games. Academic Fraud.. are you kidding me? A 15 sec google search shows that he was cleared of having any knowledge of the situation. Besides..let's look at some other names folks have mentioned: Applewhite: Had an affair with a student assistant. It wasn't exposed until a couple years later when another coach sued UT for being fired for a similar violation. Great Achievements: 1. Fired from Alabama. 2. Never being trusted enough to be play caller at UT. 3. Doing well at Houston this year ( I don't follow Houston, so I honestly don't know how impressive that is or not). Kendal Briles: Suspended 1 game this season for recruiting violations. Great Achievements: Son of Art Briles. (I actually am intrigued with Kendal though he's a bit of a Hail Mary pick IMHO) The only valid point I think you have is that he has been known to be a bit of a jerk (this reputation concerns me from a recruiting perspective). I honestly think that the major issue most of you have is that he is really really fat and you find that embarrassing.

I, for one, am sorry to hear that it is probably not true. I would love to have Mark Mangino. The man was both a Broyles Award winner and an AP Coach of the Year. He won an Orange Bowl at Kansas (Kansas!!). Those of you who compare him to Dan McCarney have no idea what you are talking about. The man would have us competing for C-USA titles every year, no doubt. I'm going to end up so mad when we get freaking Spav....

Giving out the President's home number was definitely not cool, but there was nothing else you did that was wrong (or should be ashamed about). The banner is a just another result of RV's failings. That is so important to understand. He is okay at raising a little money from donors, but can't put butts in seats and he can't produce competitive teams in the money sports. The product he is selling just isn't good enough. It's not good enough for the University of North Texas. It just isn't.

"Coach, how would your leadership make UNT football more inclusive and better serve those students of marginalized communities?" "Coach, I believe we can all agree Katlyn Jenner is stunning and brave. Can you please describe how you would encourage your players with their own transgendered identity to better educate their teammates and the university at large on LGBT issues?" "Coach, what ideas do you have for encouraging environmental sustainability in your football program?"

I need to take deeper breaths or start drinking....
MeanGreenTeeth replied to meanrob's topic in Mean Green Football
meanrob, you don't need to lose any sleep. The threads you are referring to are hypothetical "what if Canales wins out" propositions. Canals isn't going to get 7, 6, 5, or even 4 wins. If Canales won out? Hell yeah, I'd consider him. But that just isn't going to happen. -
MGB: Sounds like Smith is going to get his shot
MeanGreenTeeth replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
What? If he managed to win 4-5 games, he should be coach of the year. Hell, coach of the century. I'm not holding my breath though. -
Who Should Be The Next Head Coach @UNT
MeanGreenTeeth replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not sure all (or any) of those guys are going to have a P5 HC job within 3 years. Honestly, I don't think Spav is very good and Applewhite hasn't shown anything up to this point to deserve the adoration he has received. Of these guys, I'd go after Kendal Briles. I'm sure he could recruit well and there is a lot of upside if he is anything like his father. That being said, he is really really young and there is a chance he'd be overwhelmed. However, given where we find ourselves, I'd be happy to give him a shot. Also, keep in mind that if any of these guys got P5 jobs they'd probably be at low-end schools. It is a lot easier to make North Texas competitive in C-USA than Kansas in the Big 12. There also isn't much pressure given where we are right now. -
Can we hire the guy we should have hired in 2010 now?
MeanGreenTeeth replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't get the love for Applewhite. He couldn't hack it with Saban and showed absolutely nothing as the OC at Texas. I see nothing about the man that would indicate to me that he would be a good HC. Also, he had an affair with a student trainer that would have had him kicked to the curb at any other school. At the end of the day, what we really need right now is not a new HC, but a new AD. The new AD can make the call on the HC. -

MeanGreenTeeth replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
You know. I've mentioned this before, but Mark Mangino, who turned freaking Kansas into an Orange Bowl winner, is still stuck as an OC at Iowa State. He's probably one of the best coaches around and is affordable, but I know, I know he's fat....we certainly can't have that. Let's just go after Major Applewhite and throw another 5 years down the drain.... -
He used to operate a Domonio's franchise long ago. It was a minor yet incredibly stupid selling point for the man when he was hired. It is still in his bio. Speaking of which, we really should dissect his bio on this board at some point. It is quite an....interesting perspective the man has on himself.

Outside of a few bright spots that popped up here and there (and only briefly) UNT sports across the board have been pitiful under his tenure. Arguably, the biggest success was the football program he inherited that earned 4 straight conference titles. He has shown no ability to improve the status of the program. It's crystal clear that he is in over his head, yet there is no indication that he is on his way out. Why is that? Is he just personally popular with the administration and boosters? Is it just a general sense of apathy towards UNT sports that has kept him under the radar?
