The first dormitory building built on the campus was Marquis Hall, followed shortly by Terrell Hall. Both were later converted to office/classroom uses (Chilton Hall, Kendall Hall, the Music Practice Buildings are other buildings that were once student housing that have now been converted to other uses. Also, a portion of the Music Building was also student housing at the time it was built - most of this information comes from "The Story of North Texas" by James Rogers [any mistakes are from my memory!]). Bruce Hall is the oldest residence hall still being used for that purpose.

OKAY - now I get it!

My thoughts go out to Andrew's family and friends on the anniversary of his loss.

I was at Voertman's last week and they have the flag for $29.99. Plus, the colors are not the same on the UNT Bookstore flags. I wouldn't buy it from them for that reason alone (the second green is too dark), much less the outrageous price. The Voertman's flags look to be very similar in color to the ones we got a few years ago from American Dream Flag.

Thought I might also add that this graduation rate is significantly higher than the student body as a whole.

Ultimately, the responsibility rests with the student. UNT can provide all the resources in the world, but the student has to use them or they are meaningless.

My renewal package came today.

Excellent post! Right on the point. My personal philosophy -- Don't complain about things. Instead, take action to fix it.

The last time I remember an "outside" hired group handling and enforcing seating was during Helwig's early years. I was a student then and was very PO'd by the way things were done (rude attendants, etc.). In hindsight, part of it was probably shock at the rules actually being enforced, but I'll also say that I wasn't impressed with the attitude of the people either. Now, on Sat. night, I'll will say that every one of the hired hands that I encountered was extremely polite. Yes, it was a pain to have to show the tickets every time I got up (which is often with small kids), but it was a small pain. I wasn't on the student side, so I don't know what happened over there, but I had no complaints in my section.

The draft proposals for the new UNT Master Plan are available on the UNT System website. The link to the Powerpoint is below. Go to slides 56 & 57 to look at the Eagle point plans and draft alignment. UNT Draft Master Plan

Could that be a BASEBALL hat?

This game was close for a long time, despite the final score. We had to leave with about 8 minutes left (the kids were worn out). When we left NT had just a few points lead, and UTPA had 50 points. UTPA didn't score another point until just before the final buzzer. We were listening on the radio on the way home, and were amazed on how quickly NT pulled away.

No -- actually, we are just imitating the typical halftime talk at a UT-Dallas chessmatch. (If you don't have a football team, do you still have cheerleaders for chess?)
-
The great thing about basketball games as far as the kids are concerned, is that even a 7pm start is usually done by 9pm. Still later than normal bedtime for the little ones, but not unreasonable for the occasional weeknight. My two kids are just as excited about basketball as they are football.

Look! A flying yellow Yoda with a hammer!

What about Picard vs. Janeway? He's dead, Jim -- but this thread has a life of its own!

Neo would be out of his league. NOW Yoda vs. Gandalf -- there's a pay-per-view that would be worth my money! But what pizza would I order during the show?

Exhibition games (6pm & 8pm?) -- free to the public.

The students should be careful if they get what they ask for -- because what goes around comes around. I don't see faculty and staff throwing a big fit when part of one of our lots is closed off several times a year so that students in a nearby dorm can park closer for move-in and move-out. If students should NEVER be moved out of their lots for any special event (such as only 5 times a year for football -- which is also on weekends when most of them aren't even there!), then faculty and staff should NEVER have to give up their close-in parking spaces to assist students who need to move their belongings into or out of the dorm. (Did you notice in the plan for this rare Thursday game that the lot closest to the halls won't be closed to residents -- that is a good compromise for a weekday game, but it doesn't sound like this has calmed down any of the complaints).

Where did everyone live?
3XNTGRAD replied to Stan R's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
For undergrad, I lived two years in Kendall Hall and two years in College Inn. (Through various on campus jobs, also lived in Kerr, Maple, Clark, or Crumley during some of my summers). When I went back to graduate school, lived in Raintree Apts. and eventually Fannin Place Condos. -
One of the cheerleaders told me that they took second. I believe he said that Louisville won.

How Did UNT Fare With 2003 Texas Legislature?
3XNTGRAD replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Today's Dallas Morning News has a short note about the program. Says UNT will keep the program no matter what happens. Although, if funding falls through (not just line item, but also potentially some funds they are working on through TEA), then the program might have to start charging tuition. -
UNT Frosh Need New Dorms That Are Being Built
3XNTGRAD replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Athletics
It seems to me it's just a reallocation of space. We already have about 1000 student's in the dorms (I believe that is the approximate number) who are not freshman. I doubt that number will increase to take up the full 600 of the new spaces -- but it will free up 600 spaces for freshman closer to the central portion of campus. It makes more sense to put the newest students in the closest positions for many reasons. -
Just ordered my season tickets for Mean Green Football 2003! Any faculty/staff readers need to take advantage of the great pricing available on season tickets for us now. I had to move sections in order to find seats on the row I wanted (I added seats and there weren't any blocks available near my old seats), so goodbye "D" and hello "F". Anybody else have season tickets around row 20 in F? That's my new football home.
