After that last drive, Tune showed smoe mobility. Maybe I spoke too soon.
-
I'd say a team scoring 21 points on us with 7 minutes of possession ... it's definitely not good. Seen some highlights from the defense, but I'm afraid Clemson is finding their groove and we're in trouble. Offense is showing some good flashes. Tune is not very mobile. They break through the scrimmage and he seems to go down pretty quick. Can't get out of the grasp or the pocket for that matter. Now, let's see if it is the same ole story or do we make some actual adjustments at the half...

Maybe we should reserve this for the nick name of the stadium. Similar to the swamp, death valley. But does it sound mean enough for that?

Nathan Tune Is The Starting Qb
FireFightnJoey replied to MeanGreenSoHo's topic in Mean Green Football
What would this board be without a quarterback controversy! lol I can't remember a time when that was not the theme. Congratz to Tune! Bring home the wins! -
I am so very sorry for your loss Rick. You and your family will be in our prayers.

Ranking The Sun Belt Facilities
FireFightnJoey replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
We just don't have fan support... True, we could definitely improve here. But a 2-10 team over the last several years still draws top of the Belt in attendance. Someone else can verify, but I think we were top 3? That sounds pretty good to me. -
THE REASON why CUSA is so attractive and would love it! We're not on any AQ conference's radar. But, we have them on our schedule for most of this decade (6 years or so). However, we could play Houston, Rice, UTEP and Tulsa yearly. I could easily travel to see just about every game and so could they. Otherwise, without them in CUSA, I am not so sure about jumping ship.

I see this as good news for UNT. As much as we have to offer with media market, facility improvements, men's BB recent success, and recent success and improvements in non-revenue sports, our football record is our black eye. The commitment is there. Our attendance is even improving yearly despite horrific seasons. I've been afraid that realignment came too soon. I like our chances more if the realignment is small with little movement and we have a couple years to try to get football back on track. The 12-18 month timelines originally set by the Big-10 could be our friend. If we can post a winning season this year and next, or even better have a break out season, then I think our stock goes up significantly. I know it is not always about records and has to do with media markets, commitment, etc. (according to ArkStFan's article), but our record right now is a huge black eye. I can't help but think with the new coaching changes, returning players and seemingly good recruiting, we have to be at that turning point. I really think we are on the verge of a good run and hoping this statement doesn't come back and bite me in the buttocks! I'm afraid right now, we would remain where we are in the Sunbelt and there will not be any realignment for quite a while. That may not be a bad thing depending on how things shake out. Right now, the WAC is a bad option with the travel and time zone without a Boise. Our budget is stretched as it is. We need to be in a league with more Texas teams like a western CUSA. That may even be a pipe dream at this point.

Unt And Conference Changes
FireFightnJoey replied to houstonmeangreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I have come to the realization that this is all about coming to 4 super conferences and the +1 playoff system. That's where the BIG money will come. It has even been quoted by several people including Tuberville at Tech recently and the interview is posted on this board somewhere. It's even been quoted that possibly the 16 team leagues would have a lead in from each division of 8 teams. There you go ... 8 teams for an 8 team playoff format. This will further separate the have and have nots. I can see the future now. BCS Playoffs/Championship, NCAA D1 Bowls, NCAA DII Playoff/Championship. -
Reports from Houston news channel (can't remember which one) said Nebraska has officially accepted an invite to Big-10. Then mentioned that Texas and A&M were headed to the PAC-16. Absolutely nothing else said.

Car Crash It demonstrates extreme case. 4 passengers, 2 front and 2 back. One in the back was not wearing a seat belt. They were waiting to turn and a car hit them head on at high rate of speed. The person not wearing a seat belt flew through the car as it bounced into differnt positions and onto its side. He was a projectile and basically killed everyone in the car as he hit them. Point is, not wearing a seatbelt is as dangerous for those others in the car and not just yourself. I'm glad your friend is alive. I have been to several of these and it is a miracle that the front two passengers made it out without severe injuries less alone their lives.

How would you regulate it? Do you need a license to grow it and distribute it? Can just anyone do this? Depending on regulation and enforcement, you could have tons and tons of homegrown and they will distribute it. Then there is no taxation to fund anything. I do not think it will stimy anything in Mexico. They will be able to freely distribute it if there is no proper regulation? With regulation, this will result in the same enforcement to keep it from coming across the border. Most cases, price will drop. Marijuana is much simpler to manufacture and conceal than huge barrels of alcohol. Besides being simpler to regulate, the differences I see between marijuana and alcohol are in usage. I've never smoked a joint. So, I have no idea how it affects someone. But, you can drink a beer or a glass of wine with dinner for flavor or just refreshment. It is a substance that taken in any type of normal moderation such as a normal drink (not binge), will not have too profound of an affect on you. For the most part, it requires abuse to impair you. Marijuana ... one reason to smoke it ... to get high which means impairment and it does not require much abuse to impair you. Does it taste good and goes great with steak? Or does the steak go great with it after you've smoke it? So you legalized it. Can you smoke it in a bar? Can you smoke it in public? Every night club would be filled with the smoke and whether you are smoking it or not, you are going to get the side effects, maybe high yourself? It is not contained. Again, you are smoking it to get high, right? This just adds to the already tragic driving impaired. There is no public good there. Similar to PI, are you a safety threat to the public or yourself? I would say considerably so more than alcohol. Right now, because it is illegal to possess it, less alone to use it, the result is most folks try to use it privately, etc. But there are still DUI issues in the current state of legality. I've seen my fair share of tragedies involving DUI. We have a stretch of highway in our district which is 4-5 lanes wide on each side. On this stretch, specifically 1 mile of it, during my 10+ years of tenure with the FD, we've had atleast 4 head on collisions in the northbound lanes where the DUI driver was headed southbound, both doing alteast 70 mph, all resulting in multiple fatalities each. Most recent case included a toddler. And what really pisses you off, the DUI driver walks away over 50% of time. There are other DUI incidents including a one truck collision with a wall which resulted in the death of its 7 passengers. So, anything that will add to this type of tragedy, I am 100% against it. A substance which its intent is specifically to be high/impaired can do nothing but add to it. And I see marijuana being abused considerably more than alcohol. I agree with KingDL's point on more emphasis needs to be placed on the trafficing than overcrowding our jails with those that use it. But at some point, the law has to hold both sides accountable. Otherwise, the persons buying it will be free to do as they wish with no fear of retribution. The law does take into account severity based on possession limits and number of convictions. But lets face it, it is so much easier to catch the folks buying it and street dealers for that matter than it is to get the folks higher up the distribution chain. I do not view marijuana in the same category as other drugs. When it comes down to it, legalizing it sounds simple and a great remedy. But, it seems there are way too many extra variables that make this much more complex and I do not think it will magicly fix these issues south of the border. It could quite possibly compound them. Regarding alcohol abuse and DUIs,etc., I would like to see more stiff penalties for these. Add to that the offenders with multiple offenses, no excuse.

I think you stick a fork in us, we're done. Anything can still happen. But, if we don't start sinking our shots, this could get ugly.

4-23 from the field. How horrible is that...

Ncaa Tournament Notebook: Unt Gets Tv Call Over Baylor
FireFightnJoey replied to gruu's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Just checked DirectTV's listing for all channels showing the game in Houston. Only channel is 704 which a pay-per-view? $25. That sucks! Lists SHSU-Baylor game on CBS. -
Watching Purdue/Wisconsin game yesterday goes to show anything can happen. Purdue went completely cold in the first half. I didn't watch the last half. Our guys have been bringing it, coming back when they need to, to get the job done. They've been consistent and on a long win streak which brings with it confidence. I personally like our chances better than the Memphis match up just because this team is better all around.

Mwc Informal Expansion Discussions Start Today
FireFightnJoey replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
What keeps MWC from going to 12 teams and have a championship game? They could expand into Texas with UNT or UoH, take Boise, and their west division could play in prety much the same time zones. But then again, they would risk their undefeated getting beat in the championship game. But maybe doing this could help their quest to AQ status. -
Sunday Selection Show @ The Pourhouse
FireFightnJoey replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I've never been to the pourhouse since I live in Houston and so I don't know the layout. Is it possible that the patio can open up to a type of theater? Meaning that if the screens are big enough, folks can pour out into a grass area/parking area that is roped off as an extension of the patio? If it is roped off with some type of barrier, they might can still serve alcohol, but I am not sure how the permits and licenses work in that case. Stebo can probably shed some light. In this case, good planning with a rented tent, etc., and this wouldn't be so bad. Because here you can have beer. -
tsufan, great game by Troy. That's how championship games should be. Good luck to Troy in the NIT. Give 'em hell!
-
NORTH TEXAS!! Great win by the green! Well deserved! Going to the dance! No more question ... the MEAN GREEN ARE THE SUNBELT CHAMPS! And still in my opinion, the SBC got lucky on this one. Great game by Troy and I wish them luck in the NIT. Make the 'belt proud.

Good win tonight. GO MEAN GREEN! Bring on Troy.
