Let me tell you something... Make sure they are installed properly and you have proper coverage. Home Fire Safety Tips: Installing and Testing Smoke Alarms. This site also has good tips for family planning for fire escape and other home safety tips.

This flag is so great that Baylor fans represented it during the NCAA baseball world series a few years back. Tried to claim it as theirs. If I remember correctly, they didn't even change the colors. Homers.

In honor of our weekly game score predictions ... I'm stealing UNTFlyer's prediction with some optimism thrown in... 51% FOR 49% AGAINST New era for North Texas begins. Margin of error: +/- 50%

I Don't Know What's More Embarrassing?
FireFightnJoey replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
She doesn't realize how pathetic that makes her look. -
I don't see the need for an apology. It is the truth and like Jaydub says, those that suck need to embrace it and step up. The players and staff need to know they have your support and that they are still your team and you are behind them. They should be able to handle the truth knowing you back them.

Nt Daily Comes Out Against Stadium
FireFightnJoey replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
It is difficult to make a young college student truly realize the perception that they will be viewed once they graduate and enter the workforce. UNT is an outstanding education, forget the whole bang for your buck crap. But, it won't matter. Alumni from most of the schools in Texas will snub their noses and that includes Div II, like Texas State. Not just snubbing noses, but disregarding your education as pathetic and just a piece of paper. Athletics is the subject they base it on. During our bowl run, that perception was changing, but now its back in the toilet. But how do you get that across? Unless you are Ivy League, nothing else matters except how good athletics are perceived. Job interviews included. So, I cringe every time I hear one of these editorials basing their opinion on giving up on athletics and touting academics. Athletics builds pride in students and alumni. And that is the tool we need to increase future alumni participation from the students that will be graduating. -
How do we go from giving up 41 to LSU to giving up 77 to Rice?! Jeez...and special teams. How many fumbled returns did we have that they qucikly scored on? We couldn't stop their offense...period. And then when we did, fumbled return! A lot of the play today is on the players who couldn't seem to tackle anyone. The first 3 or 4 offensive series looked good, but then everything just stopped and the game went into the toilet.

I have to say that the rice fans were very respectful, atleast the ones I met. One man came up to me out of the blue to tell me that their first ensemble literally brought tears to his eyes. Again, the green brigade represented!! And their enthusiasm and support in the stands was contagious. Kudos to them!

We shouldn't have a scholarship problem next year. Shouldn't be a problem to free up a few next year.

Big dawg, right now is the most frustrating. I have never been this disappointed in my team. 56 points in one half? Sad. Atleast we were middle of the pack back then.
-
Can u put it any other way? I love my team, but what the hell is this? It is so hard to be a fan right now. I am at the game and this is hard to take.

Close KRAM, but Lifer is talking about West Oaks Mall, the Galleria is at 610 and Westheimer. West Oaks is way too far for me to go. I'll try the Steve and Barry's at Louetta and Kuykendahl. Hope there is atleast one vendor at the game.
-
Are there any vendors that come down for the away games? Curious if there will be any merchandising at the game. I want to buy the wife a few things and its too late to order them and get them before the game. Speaking of which, sucks being here in H-Town, you have to buy everything when you go to Denton or order it online. A couple of the folks coming to their first NT games (non-alums) want to go shopping tonight at the mall or something for some NT gear to wear. I told them, you'll have to settle for buying something green. Nothing sold around here that I know of.

Ok, I got a group of about 9-10 going this saturday and ready to tailgate. I plan on getting there about noon. Where is everybody tailgating? Which parking area? Seems all are free.

Hopefully the SGA and Admin are selling this point to the students and making it very visible. Also might be why there seems to be less oposition this time around.

I finally got some temporary internet service. I made it out of the storm ok with minimal damage to my house, very minor leak and roof repair. Luckily no trees through the middle of it! We are finally slowing down with fire department calls. The first 48 hours was incidents you would expect with a major storm, but since then it is just high call volume for routine calls. We do not respond to any call when wind is greater than 55 mph. We only respond to incidents with IDL (imminent danger to life) regardless if it was a structure fire, etc. However, since everyone is "hunkered down" in their homes for shelter, these were IDLs. We did have structure fires, try fighting a fire in 40+ mph winds. I am still without power, but life is slowly getting back to normal. I posted the below info on the Rice thread. But I moved it to its own thread so more people will view it when making the decision to come down here. The city is in disarray. Demand outweighs supply lopsidedly. Over half the residents are still without power. The game may still be played, but it might not be the best idea to come down here. We still have an entire week and things can change. But here it is for what it is worth. I only have temporary internet access. So, you may not hear from me for a while. Take care. ====================================================================== H-Town is slowly getting back to normal. Power is a major issue as half the residents are still without power including me. It could be sometime next week before mine is turned back on. I haven't looked into it, but according to the statements on this thread, the game will most likely still be played. Which is good because I want to tailgate and watch some Mean Green without traveling for once! Things you need to worry about. 1. Gas. It is a tough commodity right now. Most places have it now, but they limit the amount you get. In some cases as low as $40 at a time. By next week, this might not be an issue. I've seen lines that were over a couple hours wait. 2. Food. Most places are closing between 6 and 8:00 p.m. They are just now getting cold foods back into play. 3. Curfew. Not too big of a deal, not really enforcing it. Midnight to 6 a.m. in the city. I am in the NW area of the county. So, things here could be different than other places. A lot of people are still having to go to the PODs (Points of Distribution) for ice, water, MREs. So, the demand is higher than the supply. The game is another week away. Most companies have restricted travel to Houston because of this issue. But a lot changes in a week. All of the roads are passable and people are starting to go back to work. Mostly dealing with incoveniences. I hunt and spend a lot of time at the deer lease/camping with no power and limited supplies. So, I am not that affected. I also have the fire dept with full power and food for its members. Galveston/Bolivar Penisula is a whole different story. The further south you go, these issues become more and more prevelant. UNTLifer is in the same boat. He lives about 3 blocks from me in the same neighborhood.

West Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula are just about gone. You've probably seen the video on TV. It is also estimated that 25% or more of the population stayed! This is not confirmed and may just be a rumor, but alot of people stayed on the island and that was most likely a mistake for most of them. The National Weather Service issued a non-precedented warning to those residents, "Evacuate immediately or face certain death." The storm surge was typical of a category 4 or 5 hurricane. We can not even send emergency crews to help with any type of search and rescue. You have to have a letter from the mayor to even get on the island. They have been keeping the media out or atleast trying. My prayers are with those people of that region, regardless of their status.

Is that even possible? I thought you could only take a redshirt your freshman year and the only way was to get a gray shirt or medical shirt your other years.

Lsu Game Officially At Tiger Stadium
FireFightnJoey replied to dml7007's topic in Mean Green Football
I am suprised they are keeping the game at Baton Rouge. If this storm hits where they project it, then the feeder bands along might reach Baton Rouge. It just may be that this thing still gets cancelled. No other way to reschedule, would that mean we get a draw?? -
Good to hear that there will be a good size crowd here in H-town. I'll be there . Looking forward to tailgating with you guys. Haven't had the chance all season yet...
-
The latest track of Ike has it hitting south Texas near Corpus. I'm betting it turns and hits closer to Houston. So, Baton Rouge is probably a go.

Since I live in Houston, I have been itching all summer long for this game. Close to home, tailgating with friends that normally wouldn't drive to Dallas for a NT game, and winnable. But, now I am not so sure. I reaaally will not be able to handle losing to Rice ... Rice! I sure as heck am not going to be able to handle getting blown out! I'm not sure how much more of this I can handle. Its hard to show pride for a team that is playing like it is now, but this is my school and this is a true test. But I plan on being there. Taking the wife to her first game and really don't want her first experience to be a rout. Not so sure how many local friends want to go now. But that leads me to ask, anyone contemplating dropping this trip off their list in light of crappier football?
