  1. I see this class as being basically the same (ratings-wise) as we've seen since rejoining Div IA football in 1995... some interesting players, and some that we hope will develop into interesting players. So... basically neither a disaster nor a home run. I see the bottom-half of the CUSA recruiting rankings as about the same... good but not great. My hope is that, behind closed doors, SL sees where we're deficient in recruiting and makes the changes that need to be made for a fantastic 2018 class. It's his organization now - he needs to make adjustments as needed. Recruiting is 90% salesmanship - some people are just really good at it, and others not so much. I get to talk with quite a few varsity players in the Kaufman County area, and most have no idea (nor do they really care) about the history of a school, records over the last 5 years, etc. They are 18-yr old kids that are very impressionable, and a good salesman makes all the difference.
  2. Not to be a grammar freak, but surely someone is proofreading this stuff? Anyway, I like including Andrew Smith - helped lead us to one of our biggest wins in my opinion (2002 New Orleans Bowl)
  3. Great info Fry Guy! Man, we have owned Dallas Baptist :-) OPPONENT GAMES W L T LAST MEETING SCORE Dallas Baptist 11 11 0 0 1929 97-0
  4. Defensive End is the position that stands out to me with SR losses. We need to get our remaining DE's healthy (e.g. Tillman Johnson). Interested to see what Kevin Dillman can do as a DE in the Spring. Overall, I think we have a pretty strong JR class coming up, so not overly worried about our SR losses. A big thanks to all of the seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Mean Green!
  5. Enjoyed the game and atmosphere - very proud of our team for fighting back every time Army would start to stretch the lead. I feel we were out-coached on our last offensive series - Army had the perfect defense for all 4 plays. Hopefully our offensive coaches learned a lot this year. Definitely better times coming our way. GMG!
  6. Congrats to La Tech - great game against a really good Navy team. CUSA would go 6-1 if the Muts and our beloved Mean Green win!
  7. Also from ESPN... Alec Morris: Longest Run = 5 yds (0 TD) Mason Fine: Longest Run = 80 yds (2 TD) I don't think either will scare Army's defense with passing (although I would love to see the same comical Army DB performance we saw at West Point!) Really hope Wilson is healthy and ready.
  8. I hope Fine starts *if* he is healthy and ready, because I feel a healthy Fine gives us a better chance at winning. I don't think Fine has been healthy since before the Army game, and that showed in his throws. If Morris starts, I don't think it is much of a drop-off in passing specifically, but starting Morris essentially removes the QB running threat (one less thing for the defense to account for).
  9. I volt this as one of the better threads of 2016
  10. That's an interesting stat. I think part of that is Mason trying to stay alive in the pocket - which sometimes works well finding a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th receiver - and sometimes (too often this year) results in a sack. Alec seems more like the DT strategy from 2013... Eyes are on the primary receiver only - if he isn't covered, then throw the ball - if he's covered, then throw the ball away. That was a big reason why DT had such a low sack total in 2013... he simply didn't stay in the pocket long.
  11. I'm excited to see Fine next year along with the entire QB competition - may the best young man win. I do think Fine has been hurt since the Army game - not full-blown injured, but hurt. His throws from the Army game through last Sunday are noticeably different than his first games this year (not as accurate, not as much zip, more floaters) - all of which are indications of a 18-19 yr old body that has taken a tremendous amount of punishment.
  12. I-20 -- 34 I-35 -- 17 I see this going much like the MUTS game... we'll play tough and proud, but we just don't have the horses to run with LaTech right now. Of course, if LaTech decides to implode with 7 turnovers, then reverse that score :-)
  13. Another cool thing about this list is that 3 of the top 6 RB's for rushing TDs are from CUSA Of course, we have the best of the bunch :-)
  14. I was impressed by how *fast* we looked against Army ... I've been so used to us looking slow over the last 2 years. Our D definitely did enough to get Army out of their comfort zone. Our D coaches/players were awesome. We made plenty of mistakes... multiple cases where Fine missed an open receiver (on the interception, our receiver was open before the ball was thrown - Mason just held it too long). Fine played gritty as always and fought through it. I think the weather really bothered him at times.
  15. Mean Green - 26 Cadets - 23 Plenty of field goals in this game. Our special teams need to be huge - we need to win the field position game big time. If Army has many short fields in this game, then the Cadets will get the win. We have to make every field goal attempt.
  16. Somehow I think the famous North Texas t-shirt girl is still hot :-) Thanks Rick for the memories I'm good with the Albino Squirrel on the big screen - actually it's kind of cool. For a school that sometimes struggles to keep lasting traditions, the Albino Squirrel is something in common across multiple generations of UNT students and alumni.
  17. Yes, our O-line had a bad night, but we didn't offer any threat to keep the MUTS from stacking the box. The MT defense coaches did a great job of taking away any offensive plays that had a chance at success, and Harrell didn't adjust. Until we can stretch the field, we should expect a lot of the same defensive looks. I was impressed with Mason's composure with 8-9 in the box.
  18. Everyone should remember that we beat a pretty bad Rice team last week in OT. In the future, we'll compete better against the MUTS, but for now, they have about the best set of athletes in CUSA. We're not able to truly stretch the field with our current personnel on offense... but it will get better. Better O-Line play and more speed at the outside receiver is key. Proud that our D played their arses off tonight.
  19. " Make an indoor facility a priority and put off baseball " I approve this message... as much as I would like to add Men's Baseball, we need to focus our resources on improving our existing facilities. As the study said, minus Apogee, we are basically below average for even CUSA facilities. A multi-purpose indoor practice facility would be huge for us keeping pace and possibly out-pacing our immediate competition.
  20. That Wilson run in the 3rd quarter was amazing. I knew he was fast, but the way he separated from the Rice DB's was freakin' awesome! So proud of our team tonight!!!
  21. Eric Peagram went to Pittsburgh as a free agent running back (not sure if Scott Davis was part of an NFL Team). I remember the 1990 game very well. There was quite a mix of UNT and SMU students on the student side of Fouts, and the field scrum very nearly made its way into a fan scrum in the stands. SMU students may have traveled better to that game than they have to any of the Apogee games. Lots of emotion during that game.
  22. Agreed - impressive young man. This gives me a lot of confidence in our coaching staff's recruiting abilities going forward.
  23. I have a question about playing "Hey Baby"... I have heard HS bands playing this song between the 3rd and 4th Qtrs over the past few years (East Texas HS like Forney, North Forney, Lindale, Kaufman, Terrell, etc.). Did the Green Brigade influence this trend of playing "Hey Baby", or did this trend start elsewhere and the Green Brigade picked-up on the trend?
  24. I also mentioned this in the survey. As a tagline, I think it is fine (combination of SL's Let it Fly with Fly Like an Eagle), but really sounded awkward and forced over the loud speakers, especially being repeated over and over.
