We're seeing just how much having Wilson back there covered some of our OL weakness since he's a really good blocking RB. This is a big concern going into the bowl game. Poor Evan Johnson tried hard when he was on the field, but he's not going to stop a D Lineman. Our OL needs a lot of help. Murray made the FAU right DE look like Charles Haley.

***OFFICIAL UNT VS. FAU C-USA CONF CHAMP GAME THREAD***
ForneyGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
How on earth are we playing a CUSA team that is that much bigger and faster than us? This is crazy. Our O-Line is playing one of their worst games of the year. -
***OFFICIAL UNT VS. FAU C-USA CONF CHAMP GAME THREAD***

Dear Coach Kiffin - please call off the dogs early and don't make this thing end 70 - 10. Thanks for your consideration. Hate games like this where we look so small and so slow. -
***OFFICIAL UNT VS. FAU C-USA CONF CHAMP GAME THREAD***
ForneyGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Embarrassing – Mason is very rattled out there, and they are just much bigger, stronger, faster -

UNT Freshman Redshirt list best as I can tell
ForneyGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think he's played - so very likely a redshirt this year. I didn't remember us recruting him - but I saw him a few times his senior year at Lindale HS and was very impressed - quick and great vision. He's on our roster as a WR ... excited to see him play in the future - could be another Michael Lawrence type receiver. -
We may be adding 2017 Playboy Party School champion to our conference championships this year :-)

Official ODU Game Score Prediction Thread
ForneyGreen replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
Defense plays much better, but our D still has a ways to go. I think we can outscore ODU at home. Wilson gets back to triple digits. Mean Green: 37 Monarchy of Old Dominion: 34 -
Quotes from players - no energy, no excitement
ForneyGreen replied to Big E's topic in Mean Green Football
I had a bad feeling about this game. Most teams have a game each year where, for whatever reason, the team just isn't up to play. If you're Alabama, that's probably fine because you'll get an "ugly win" that week. Like SL said in his postgame interview, we're not good enough to take a week off - and we got schooled big time. Good news is that the team is mostly healthy and they still control their own destiny. Hopefully their play against ODU this week will show a sense of urgency and drive (and a little chip on their shoulder - something to prove). I have a feeling they will play well against ODU. -
My wife has done the same thing with me many times after I rant about everything wrong with a UNT program ... it must be hard being the wife of a die-hard Mean Green fan :-)

Yeah, Booger and his older brother Kenoy are both good 'ol boys loving the country life (Kenoy is outside of Forney - had some good years in the NFL). Booger's combination of size, quickness, and strength made him just about unstoppable in college - definitely one of my all-time favorite players. He's still connected to the program as a letterman.

Alabama Birmingham gave away this game
ForneyGreen replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the more appropriate thread title would be "North Texas *almost* gave away this game". Up 16 and deep in UAB territory after a blocked punt is where a game like this has to be put away. There's no reason that UAB should have really been in the game at that point. Props to UAB though for a gutsy comeback - especially to their QB who is one tough dude. -
Negatives: Iowa could have scored 14 more points on us pretty easily Special Teams are a gigantic concern going into CUSA Only scored 14 pts against a very suspect defense that really struggled against Iowa St. Positives: Defense played really hard even when very overmatched in both size and speed - good effort Shanbour can get the job done if Fine is ever hurt Wilson is a stud

North Texas vs. Iowa OFFICIAL Game Thread
ForneyGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed - not sure why he stopped at that point - run 2 more yards and that is a catch (teachable moment) -
I think this is a reality we all should realize... SMU is simply ahead of us, and way ahead in many areas. Can UNT make-up ground and compete in football? Sure, but there's a lot of work to do. Better coaching on our side would have prevented the lopsided loss, but losing to SMU shouldn't be a big surprise right now - they could be pretty darn good this year (much to my dismay). I'm sticking with my 6-6 prediction and hoping (praying) our gameplan in all 3 phases is better going forward that this past Saturday. Iowa could be a royal mud-hole stomping on us... CUSA games will be better times.

I wasn't a fan of the previous year black uni's, but these new black uni's look really, really nice - very well designed. Also love the metallic green helmet. Congrats AD and Nike on some very nice uni's - impressive!

Just realized this is my tenth season of UNT football
ForneyGreen replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
The fact that you returned for another game after that Tulsa game is a testament in itself! 30 years for me ... got hooked on North Texas athletics in the I-AA days when victories against SFA, Sam Houston, and Northwestern St (LA) were considered big. Things can seem bad at times, but we've come a looooong way. -
I'm going to say "the TE / Slot position" (Kelvin Smith / Caleb Chumley). Either/Both of these guys potentially will have a huge year. At least early in the year, I think our QB will need to get rid of the ball quickly. I see a lot of quick passes going to these guys. Hopefully they will help to force defenses away from 8+ in the box along with blitzes (which I think we'll see a lot of early).

For those interested in Liberty and it's facilities
ForneyGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, Liberty is a beautiful, master-planned campus that is flush in money - they have lots of it. -
DRC: Could 2018 be the year UNT has a player drafted?
ForneyGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks techdawg88 for that little reminder of our football misery :-) Kishawn McClain has a decent draft chance... but all would need to have monster Senior years. -
Is it time to drop "North Texas" and become UNT?
ForneyGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed Harry. I have the opportunity to counsel a lot of HS kids, and the very large majority refer to our school as UNT... so that name (at least for the up-and-coming generation) is well known in the Metroplex. Even with adults, it is rare that I mention UNT and someone doesn't know what I mean. Of course, someone in Los Angeles or Chicago may have no idea what UNT means, but in the Metroplex, it has become a well-known brand. -
MGB: UNT defensive line outlook for 2017
ForneyGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
All in all, not too worried about the DL group, especially with English at NT and a (hopefully) fully healthy Tillman Johnson at DE. I really hope the Kevin Dillman experiment at DE works well... he's got the size and strength to be great - hopefully also has the speed and motor needed at DE. -
LOL! Thanks Tasty ... sums up the Mean Green Fan experience pretty well :-)

Which signee are you most excited about and why?
ForneyGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Short Term (next year): Jalen Guyton - hoping he will be the WR playmaker that we've so desperately needed Longer Term: Tre Siggers - could be our next Jeffrey Wilson
