  1. We have GOT to beat the ponies this year in Denton - what a freakin' huge game! The hair on my neck stands up just thinking about that game! I'll have about 10 of my compadres from West Texas with me at the game. They're rednecks and not too smart, but they can yell :-) GMG! Beat the hell out of SMUt!!!
  2. The Dentonites- Clueless ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  3. Heh, I must have forgot about the 1946 Optimist Bowl Ok - second bowl win - but the first in my 37 years
  4. I am purchasing 2 more season tickets this year for friends/family (already had 4) and joining the Mean Green Club. Heck, I've sat through driving, cold rain to watch a bad NTSU team get beat by an equally bad SHSU team at Fouts in front of *maybe* 3,000 fans. I've also seen a team go to 4 straight bowl games and get its first and only bowl win. I'm Mean Green through and through. Last year I felt worried going into the season with the QB situation so up in the air. At least we have options this year (and experience). I feel *much* better going into this year. All programs have ups and downs. The best feeling is watching your team win its first bowl game, remembering the rainy SHSU games, and marveling at how far the program has come.
  5. Maybe GGII's deck doesn't have 52 cards, but his glass is half full, and I like the attitude. Here's hoping that the coaching staff exudes this same attitude to the team: Go 12-0. If you get beat by UT, then go 11-1. Last year just started off with too much negative energy all the way around. Time to get this thing rollin' again. We are better this year at every skill position (ok - I'm counting on JT returning to form); we will be bigger and stronger on both lines; and we are kinda the 'underdogs' for the first time in a while. Can't wait to whip SMU!!! GO MEAN GREEN!!!
  6. Harry et. al. - I would happily pay for another year's worth of great Mean Green Report news, but it seems that I cannot renew my membership? I get the same thing that H-towngreen gets - a blank screen and an unquenched desire for the inside scoop... Any info on how to get this information would be great.
  7. The Jubenator is #1 !!! The "Do you believe in the Mean Green" line is one of the all time greats (ok - a little bias built in to that comment). I also think Craig Way does a good job on the Longhorn's radio network. I used to hate Joe Theisman, but he's grown on me somehow.
  8. I wouldn't get too excited about 15,000 for a TSU playoff game. SFA was getting 17,000 at home during their playoff runs in the 1990's - but once they came back down to earth, I'm sure that their typical attendance did as well. Just wait until you see our attendance next year for SMU - two teams that are not that great will draw close to 30,000 at Fouts.
  9. I'd like to hear more from the regular posters about the question posed in this thread - What is OK to ask of DD? I am a fan of DD. I am also a fan of my employees, and when they screw up, they know that there will be some long discussions about how to get things on track. In this case, I think that just about every question concerning the offense is fair game. Our offense has scored 7 points in two games, and it's not like we're playing against Big 12 defenses (yes, both Middle and Tulsa have some talented players, but as a whole, these are not world-beating defenses). Personally, I think it goes back to preparation and game-planning. So, here are my two fair and balanced questions for DD: 1) Can you please do something to get the tight ends and receivers into the game (other than heaving jump balls to The Mighty Quinn) so that we might actually see some respect for the passing game? 2) Can you please put some plays together that give your RS freshman quarterback the chance to get some completions under his belt at the beginning of the game - instead of asking him to drop back and make multiple reads? BTW - I know that we're a LOT better than what we showed last night - that's why I'm so frustrated that the team wasn't better prepared.
  10. I do appreciate the words of optimism and the reminder that "the sky is really not falling". But... as Mean Green faithful, I do think we have some things to be upset about today: I would have expected this team to be MUCH better prepared for Tulsa - the approach to this game should have been as a Big, Big Game. Great point, and we'll pray that the hammy improves over the next 2-3 weeks (it should with good care). Yes, so why does the offense run plays as if we're not going to see a blitz and 9 in the box on every play? Why aren't we running plays that explicitly take advantage of this type of defense. Slants - skinny posts to TE's - 8 yard comeback against single coverage... I just don't understand why we look so unprepared for the type of defense that we'll see every single week. And... I'm still very frustrated that we couldn't at least find an above-average JUCO QB for this season. Meager will be fine over time, but our QB situation right now just isn't good. Again, we have to stop preparing for Tulsa like we would for Nicholls State - don't expect that we can block 9 people in the box - take advantage of single coverage and open slants. Agreed - they should get a good chewing this week. They sure looked like world-beaters against us!!! And I agree with you - they have a nice team. We do too... our good team just didn't show up. Again, this is the type of thing that happens when the game approach during practice is not "Big Game" - bad mental mistakes and sloppy play. I'm really not a pessimist and will always support this team, but as a Mean Green fan, I'm just a little pissed off that our program didn't take advantage of a ripe opportunity to show itself in front of a large crowd with lots of media attention.
  11. Yeah, 7 points by the offense in two games. This game really makes me mad. Is there going to be any freakin' accountability for Dickey and Flannigan after two terrible offensive performances? My gosh - MTSU could have killed us had they not beaten themselves. How can this team come into such a big home opener so unprepared?
  12. Wow, that statement is shocking. But, at least we (gomeangreen) are getting some pub in print. What is that old saying... all publicity is good publicity? :-)
  13. I guess the doom and gloom mentality is a product of winning 4 straight conference titles and the fear that we might slip a little. The more I think about the upcoming game, the more I like our chances of starting 1-0. - Meager is more than capable in a run-oriented offense - Two of the best running backs in the nation behind a nice O-Line - Good group of receivers - Linebackers will be much, much better, and I feel good about the corners - Safeties - just not sure yet - time will tell - D-Line - again, time will tell All in all, I like this team. Last year's game vs. MTSU in our house started off awful as we were behind 14-0 before Jamario took over. I see our running game once again wearing the MTSU defense down and keeping their offense off the field. GMG!
