I have no problems with Riley's quotes - I think they are right on in that he will have the opportunity to play early. Vizza will also have that opportunity. I also have no problems with his quotes about his love for UT - his Dad played there, and he's been a surrogate member of that family for his whole life. I grew up a big fan of... SMU basically because their merchandise was sold at my little-town Wal-Mart and because I liked their school colors. Of course, I attended UNT (NTSU at the time) because it was the right choice and I have had Green running through my veins since that time - but I never think anything negative about how kids in high school think of college programs. Bottom line is that Coach Dodge will play the best QB that he has available. As fans, this is really great to see that we'll have a high-level QB competition at UNT. Wouldn't mind seeing Tre come to UNT at all - would make for a wonderful RB competition at some point! When you have high-level competition at all of your skill positions, then you know that you're getting much closer to that level that we all want to see for UNT. I also don't have a problem with the quotes on the UT board that were posted below because I think they were right-on as well. Riley would have been competing with a crop of athletes that are among the best in the nation at UT - that's just a fact of life. At UNT, he most definitely has a much greater chance to be the starting QB.

Cotton Bowl Classic Moves To Arlington In 2010
ForneyGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Exactly! The bottom-tier bowls will continue to come and go, so there will always be an opportunity to start a new bowl game. If Dallas is really that serious about getting more teams to play in a renovated Cotton Bowl, then this is a wonderful opportunity to partner with the City of Dallas to get a new bowl game - possibly with hard tie-ins to the Sun Belt and CUSA. -
The site also shows our very unfortunate record against the Terrell Academy (TX) - I sure hope we get to play them again soon so we can even the score... North Texas vs Terrell Academy (TX) Record: 0-1-0 Date: 1914 PF: 0 PA: 6

I think the MUTS have a very nice stadium. Not quite as nice as Fouts, but a close second...

Favorites: 1) Boomer cannon - simply greatness 2) And that's good for another Mean Green FIRST DOWN!!! 3) NORTH --- TEXAS!!! 4) "Fly Like an Eagle" by the Green Brigade 5) Dominating the Belt! Least Favorites: 1) Polka-style fight song toward the end of the game (BTW - I love most everything else about the Green Brigade) 2) Students tailgating and not coming into the stadium 3) Running a QB draw on 3rd and 25 (I think this one has been officially abolished) 4) Changing uniforms/logos every 4 years

Emmitt - our prayers go out to you and the family of the fallen officer. Stay strong!!!

Wow - I truly believe that this team really overachieved this year - which is a helluva lot better than underachieving. What a great ride - we really appreciate how JJ and his team represented UNT this year!!! Finally, the future looks bright for UNT basketball!!!
-
Yeah, JJ has taken some heat this year, but I guess that is to be expected of an athletic program and fan base that have much higher expectations than before. Congrats JJ - you built a champion! No way would I have picked UNT vs. ASU in the Sun Belt title game before this year started...

Congratulations To The 2007 Sbc Champions!
ForneyGreen replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Congratulations to the 2007 MEAN GREEN!!! Man, we looked really good on national TV! Those announcers just couldn't get over the atheticism on this team. I'm guessing we get a #14 seed... could be upset time in the tourny baby! -
I think that most of the comments are not against the idea of a new spirit group but rather lamenting in the fact that students would find the need for a new spirit group. Believe me, alumni are always happy to see students get excited about the Mean Green - it's just that we wish there was one common spirit group that was able to encompass all of the students that bleed Green. If you feel the Dodgers is the best way to get more students into the Mean Green, then by all means, go for it. I was not a member of either the Talons or Wings, so I can't speak directly to their pluses and minuses. But getting people involved is the main thing!

And Ken and Barbie have to enroll at El Centro because their country club university is no more... Last year's win against SMU was sooooooo sweet! Can't wait to show them how to play football again...

Plays like that one against FAU are part of the reason that I feel Meager will do well next year. On that play, he simply outran the entire FAU defense. Granted, a hold on our OLine basically allowed him to get to the corner, but once he was there, he was gone. The kid can flat out run, and he has a pretty good arm - if he can wrap his mind around Dodge's offense, then he may have a special year. I have never had the chance to see Tune - I know that some on here believe that he can be special as well. Having true competition at QB, RB, and WR is going to be fun!
-
I'm not exactly sure why, but my gut feeling is that Meager will win the starting QB position and have a good year. I have no reason to believe this based on his past performances other than the fact that he was being forced to run one of the worst offenses in the nation. Some of his decisions have looked bad - but then again, the whole freakin' offense has been horrible the past 2 years! He has great speed, and I honestly think that his arm is every bit as strong as Phillips'. He just may thrive as a junior in Dodge's system. I would say Wilson #2 and Phillips #3 with Vizza getting a red shirt. The only way that Vizza doesn't red shirt is if the other 3 just totally stink it up in the new system.

The Athletic Department's Signing Day Blog
ForneyGreen replied to ntsumgspe's topic in Mean Green Football
I am absolutely sure that this means we are competing at the last minute for this guy - which to me is not a recruiting day disaster - it's just part of the game when you're going after top-rated talent. Let's see how it goes - at least we have some drama added to the mix! -
"With a capacity of 25,513 Romney is the home of Aggie football" I sure did not realize that USU doesn't even have a 30,000 seat stadium.

Colleges: Unt Holds Annual Football Banquet
ForneyGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Music to my ears... -
First game was Homecoming 1986 versus Arkansas State. I think ASU was ranked in the I-AA top 10 at that time and were favorites to win the conference. The first half was close, then we got blown out - something like 34-14. There were about 14,000 people at the game. I remember being surprised that more people were not there. But, it was a good time and I started making most every home game.

Muts Recruit Class Nearly Complete
ForneyGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
If I'm reading the list correctly, the MUTS only have 2 players out of 21 committments from the state of Tennessee? I guess if you're going to be good in Tennessee, then you better be ready to recruit out-of-state. Lots of players from Florida... I just can't imagine seeing any school in Texas with more than 90% of its players coming from out-of-state! -
Ot: Parcells Resigning
ForneyGreen replied to TicketJohn's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
My money is on Norv Turner being the next Cowboy's head coach. I'm not saying that I think that's a good or bad thing... but I don't see Jones bringing in a college head coach, and I head that Norv Turner had already been contacted as a candidate. -
I didn't realize that the MCoy's are from Graham? That area is a nice breeding ground for under-the-radar talent. UNT has had two players from Graham in recent memory - Tubby Coleman and Jason May.
-
I just love Coach Dodge's "can-do, hard work" attitude. I think this type of attitude is a huge part of his success to this point, and it makes him a great ambassador for UNT athletics.

Dodge's Collection Of All-state Players Grows
ForneyGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I am very excited about the recruiting news so far. I think it's safe to say that none of these recruits would have come to UNT before Dodge became HC. -
I'm in! Thanks Harry.
-
Harry - please give me access to your new message boards. I did have access to the MGR, and I'm an avid supporter of the MEAN GREEN! I'll check back later and let you know when I can access the boards. Thanks as always!
