  1. Yeah, JJ has taken some heat this year, but I guess that is to be expected of an athletic program and fan base that have much higher expectations than before. Congrats JJ - you built a champion! No way would I have picked UNT vs. ASU in the Sun Belt title game before this year started...
  2. Congratulations to the 2007 MEAN GREEN!!! Man, we looked really good on national TV! Those announcers just couldn't get over the atheticism on this team. I'm guessing we get a #14 seed... could be upset time in the tourny baby!
  3. I think that most of the comments are not against the idea of a new spirit group but rather lamenting in the fact that students would find the need for a new spirit group. Believe me, alumni are always happy to see students get excited about the Mean Green - it's just that we wish there was one common spirit group that was able to encompass all of the students that bleed Green. If you feel the Dodgers is the best way to get more students into the Mean Green, then by all means, go for it. I was not a member of either the Talons or Wings, so I can't speak directly to their pluses and minuses. But getting people involved is the main thing!
  4. And Ken and Barbie have to enroll at El Centro because their country club university is no more... Last year's win against SMU was sooooooo sweet! Can't wait to show them how to play football again...
  5. Plays like that one against FAU are part of the reason that I feel Meager will do well next year. On that play, he simply outran the entire FAU defense. Granted, a hold on our OLine basically allowed him to get to the corner, but once he was there, he was gone. The kid can flat out run, and he has a pretty good arm - if he can wrap his mind around Dodge's offense, then he may have a special year. I have never had the chance to see Tune - I know that some on here believe that he can be special as well. Having true competition at QB, RB, and WR is going to be fun!
  6. I'm not exactly sure why, but my gut feeling is that Meager will win the starting QB position and have a good year. I have no reason to believe this based on his past performances other than the fact that he was being forced to run one of the worst offenses in the nation. Some of his decisions have looked bad - but then again, the whole freakin' offense has been horrible the past 2 years! He has great speed, and I honestly think that his arm is every bit as strong as Phillips'. He just may thrive as a junior in Dodge's system. I would say Wilson #2 and Phillips #3 with Vizza getting a red shirt. The only way that Vizza doesn't red shirt is if the other 3 just totally stink it up in the new system.
  7. I am absolutely sure that this means we are competing at the last minute for this guy - which to me is not a recruiting day disaster - it's just part of the game when you're going after top-rated talent. Let's see how it goes - at least we have some drama added to the mix!
  8. "With a capacity of 25,513 Romney is the home of Aggie football" I sure did not realize that USU doesn't even have a 30,000 seat stadium.
  9. Music to my ears...
  10. First game was Homecoming 1986 versus Arkansas State. I think ASU was ranked in the I-AA top 10 at that time and were favorites to win the conference. The first half was close, then we got blown out - something like 34-14. There were about 14,000 people at the game. I remember being surprised that more people were not there. But, it was a good time and I started making most every home game.
  11. If I'm reading the list correctly, the MUTS only have 2 players out of 21 committments from the state of Tennessee? I guess if you're going to be good in Tennessee, then you better be ready to recruit out-of-state. Lots of players from Florida... I just can't imagine seeing any school in Texas with more than 90% of its players coming from out-of-state!
  12. My money is on Norv Turner being the next Cowboy's head coach. I'm not saying that I think that's a good or bad thing... but I don't see Jones bringing in a college head coach, and I head that Norv Turner had already been contacted as a candidate.
  13. I didn't realize that the MCoy's are from Graham? That area is a nice breeding ground for under-the-radar talent. UNT has had two players from Graham in recent memory - Tubby Coleman and Jason May.
  14. I just love Coach Dodge's "can-do, hard work" attitude. I think this type of attitude is a huge part of his success to this point, and it makes him a great ambassador for UNT athletics.
  15. I am very excited about the recruiting news so far. I think it's safe to say that none of these recruits would have come to UNT before Dodge became HC.
  16. I'm in! Thanks Harry.
  17. Harry - please give me access to your new message boards. I did have access to the MGR, and I'm an avid supporter of the MEAN GREEN! I'll check back later and let you know when I can access the boards. Thanks as always!
  18. Database Administrator for Cingular Wireless (basically a computer geek... along with being a MEAN GREEN GEEK!)
  19. I would show Riley a picture of our cheerleader Caris and mention that there are 17,000 more of these beauties at UNT... Wish they all could be North Texas girls
  20. My expectations are simple: - Expect a team that is trying to win instead of trying not to lose - Expect an offense that isn't the worst in the SBC (and continues to improve) - Expect an attitude that every game can be won The rest will take care of itself over time...
  21. At a minimum, we won't have to suffer through a QB draw play on 3rd and 15... This coming year is actually going to be fun!
  22. Thank God it's finally over!!! The New Era now begins...
  23. Or, maybe Dodge comes to UNT next year and then recruits his son? To me, a D1A head coach opportunity for probably $300,000.00 or more per year is likely a decent reason to change jobs. Technically, he could keep his residence in Southlake - it's not that far up Hwy 377 to Denton.
  24. I think it was mostly Robertson making some unbelievable second and third moves that got him some big yards. The general blocking was still not very good as Robertson was having to juke FAU players at the line of scrimmage just to get a little open space. Also, the FAU offensive line kinda had their way with our D-Line for most of the game. We really need to bulk up on the D-Line. But, I'll give them credit in that they did make some key plays in the second half to give the team a chance.
  25. I wouldn't directly compare Dunham and Mercer - two different styles during two different times in UNT Athletics. I do hope that George stays on for play-by-play. My feeling is that his involvement with UNT has been an overall positive and would continue to be so.
