Maybe they'll get a D1 team soon. Sorry UTSA... looks like AIOU is Sun Belt bound.

If we're talking about UNT Football, then following are some golden marketing rules... 1) Football is mostly for men 2) Men mostly like women 3) Scantly clathed women work at Hooters, Bone Daddy's, etc. 4) Therefore, host Mean Green Promotion nights at these fine establishments

Yes, but the Spring enrollment is always smaller than the Fall - so my guess is that 33,366 is a record Spring enrollment. BTW - I've noticed 2 billboards on Central Expressway in Dallas that UNT has used for advertising this year - the first one made reference to that record Fall enrollment. Good to see that some marketing is happening.

Hey - Shavod committed, we're getting a new stadium, and Plumm is posting again. All is right in the Mean Green World!!!
-
No concerns here - I think we are pretty deep at RB: Cam Montgomery - senior Lance Dunbar - sophomore Jeremi Mathis - sophomore Micah Mosley - junior James Hamilton - sophomore (converted DB - assuming he stays with the offense this year)

From this article: “Our first recruiting class we signed six wide receivers and three of them are gone now,” Dodge said. I know Dibrell is one of the 3 that are gone. Who are the other 2 (Fentris is maybe one due to his career-ending injury)?

Welcome To The Newest Mean Green!
ForneyGreen replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll second that notion - congratulations to our newest members of the Mean Green Family!!! Enjoy your time at UNT - I sure know that I did... -
Tobe was my first thought too - maybe Cam

I predict that our only arguments on this board in Jan 2010 will be trying to figure out why we were not invited to a BCS Bowl.

I heard Gruden is a soft commit for UNT but will also visit a Big 12 school and is keeping his options open.
-
Did I hear a request for Kool-Aid? I think giving Baine a chance at QB makes perfect sense. The QB competition will be fun to watch this year. Can't wait to see the new crop of receivers this year - that has been my biggest worry point for the offense. I think the QB position will be fine.

Wow - Booger went through that double-team like it was nothing! There's something to be said for the combination of talent, attitude, and a little nastiness

Yes! Finally, Some F*&@$#! Good News!
ForneyGreen replied to flyeater's topic in Mean Green Football
Sarcasm swells in the heart of the Mean Green Nation... It's how many of us deal with 1-11 I'll say this though.. after the good news about Atkinson, then reading Harry's editorial about the possible return of the Mean Green defense, and then getting the good news about the OU WR transfer, I'm getting thirsty for some Mean Green Kool-Aid!!! -
You stole my thunder there with the shovel pass - that is an ideal play for the spread attack since the middle of the defense will typically have larger gaps. We took advantage of that some with Cam running plays (man I'm glad he's back next year), but the shovel pass adds a nice wrinkle. More slant routes - we have some size at receiver and should make better use of it. All in all - I would say more quick passing routes. For some reason, it seemed like Gio was in the backfield forever before the ball would come out - even on plays that seemed to be "quick" routes - that was part of the issue with protection. Throw some successful quick routes to take the pressure off the line and the QB. Add a strong running game and you set the defense up for the deep post.

What Would We Have To Do To Get Straight Answers?
ForneyGreen replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
This is weird to me... I thought that Riley was injured most of the year and therefore would not be ahead of anyone at any position? Why would Tune think otherwise? I guess all QB's at all schools that are not currently listed as the #1 guy should leave their current program and transfer? Sure there are special cases, but really, guys should just compete - if you're not #1 and you want to be #1, then work to improve - that's not a bad thing. I'll look forward to seeing Riley and Tune compete - and then hope that our starting QB has a terrific year. -
Since this has been brought up - a question for those who know a lot more than myself about scholly rules. 1) Does Vizza's voluntary leave count against our APR score? 2) Is this scholly immediately reusable (for a player that would be here either Spring or Summer)?

Fw *telegram Excerpts On Vizza New Info
ForneyGreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
This is a common practice used in many transfer cases - especially for starters. It is not done in spite or meanness - it's a way to protect a time and money investment (hopefully we all realize by know that college athletics is truly a business of sorts). I would guess that all SBC schools would be listed - and possibly some local D1 schools. I have to think that Vizza and his family were well aware of this when they made their decision. -
Thanks for the post-Gio article Harry! One thing's for sure... never a dull moment at good 'ol UNT I am excited to see what Riley and Tune can do behind a revamped OL with the addition of two speed guys at receiver. I also agree that we'll see more DL JUCO commits than we have announced at this point. Not sure what to think about Atkinson - I guess that's the risk you take when you are going for high-caliber players. I am mostly looking forward to seeing Cam next year as a starter all season - that guy may have a very special year.

I truly wish Gio the best and appreciate his time at UNT, but the whole idea of leaving your team with two years remaining (a team that needs you) just kinda makes my stomach turn. Maybe kids are just different now... Mitch's comments reminded me of when I was 2 years into my stay at UNT. While I was not on athletic scholarship and thus not "committed" to the university, I still felt a sense of ownership in the school after being around other students, the community, and the faculty. Maybe the UNT die hards like myself just want some of that same passion from the student athletes - I remember knowing a lot of those athletes during my time at UNT that wouldn't have dreamed of playing anywhere else. I know that some of our kids today still feel that passion - obviously some others do not. Best of luck Gio - hope you're able to find what you're looking for

Honestly, I think we'll win 3-4 games next year. Last year's team was bad enough to get blown out by a so-so MUTS team and good enough to hang with a pretty decent ASU team that had a lot to play for toward the end of the year. I think Riley will be on the field a lot one way or another. The defense will be improved in its second year under Deloach. Not a spectacular season, but expecting better than last year's carnage.

Cowboys didn't have a chance because they play in an old stadium. You see, football teams can't be expected to win if they have an old stadium. Maybe the Cowboys will get a new stadium some day...

I think Juco's are every bit as tough (maybe tougher) to evaluate than high school kids. They will always be hit-and-miss - same with every D1 footballl program. Some things to remember about Juco's: 1) There is a reason that they went to Juco as opposed to taking a D1 scholarship (could be grades, family situation, talent level, lots of things) 2) You really don't have any development time for a Juco - they either come in and contribute, or they take a valuable scholly spot for 2 years and don't do much All in all, I think HS is almost always the best route. We have a lot of holes to fill right now - thus we're hitting the Juco trail very hard. Of the Juco's mentioned on this thread, I would put Kevin Galbraith as my #1... that guy was an awesome Juco find and an example of a perfect Juco fit while a great HS running back (Patrick Cobbs) developed behind him.
