  1. As always, I will continue to support the program regardless of who we have as a coach. This is *our* team - and we shouldn't turn our backs on the young men that represent our university. I feel that this decision was about 50% financial and about 50% football-related. Changing coaches at this point would truly be a tough thing to do. While I am not going to be happy that we lost a lot of close games, the reality is that we improved over last year, and that says something about the team. Honestly, if a group of boosters went to Rick and said "Hey, we just raised 5 million dollars - fire the whole staff and go get X or Y person to come in here", the decision might be different. That is basically what happened at SMU - boosters brought June Jones to town - not the AD. Anyway, the drama is over for now. Hopefully we have a good recruiting season and a great 2010 campaign.
  2. I listened to it last night with a bottle of Jack and 2 hookers But I agree they did sound discouraged.
  3. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Bingo - it was all bad. ULM could have scored more - just about any ULM downfield pass would have been completed. They tried to take time off the clock toward the end but could have hung 40+ pts on us. It was incredible how our D-Line would get blown off the line of scrimmage - and how little pressure we could put on their QB as their WR's ran free. They definitely wanted this game much more than us.
  4. Man, I've tried to believe, support, be optimistic, etc., but I'm about at the end of my rope with this thing. Tonight just really pissed me off because I've watched and played enough football to see when a team has checked-out - and this one has basically checked-out. And that is what frustrates and worries me about the future with the current regime. I love North Texas and the Mean Green and will always support - but I'm really starting to go sour on the current direction...
  5. I've rarely seen a more uninspired team that tonight. We were manhandled in every part of the game. More bad decisions by our offense - couldn't put any pressure on their QB - and they took our running game away. I'm really starting to worry about this thing. We've regressed all the way back to bad offense, bad defense, and bad special teams - nothing worked right tonight. I'm tired of seeing how far we are from being competitive in the Sun Belt - we are so far behind. Seeing tonight's game, I really can't say that we've made progress over the past 3 years.
  6. That is just amazing to see how far the stands are from the field - the aerial shots really show that. Will be great to see the aerial shots of the Fouts Field demolition in 2011
  7. I feel a little hypocritical, because I also hate the fact that so many Big 12 & SEC teams get into bowls. But at the same time, I would rather play a #9 Big 12 team than a #4 CUSA team in the NO Bowl Anyway, this is good news for us and the Sun Belt to keep the bowl tie-in thru 2013.
  8. FWIW - Forney High School also uses this formation :-) I think it is basically intended to prevent return blockers from keying on 1 or 2 people to block - and also provides for an interesting onside kick if the kicker scoots the ball straight up the middle.
  9. I guess this defense has reverted back to its old ways where every QB has a career day against us. Even though some stats looked ok until the last 2 games, this defense has not produced when it counts. * Defense couldn't hold a lead against Ohio * Defense couldn't hold a lead against ULaLa * Defense gets shredded by FAU and Troy. I know Troy is a pretty good team, but really, should we be getting whipped that badly? I guess we'll have to score 45 pts to win against WKU... At some point, this defense has to get much better for this thing to get turned around. Even when we're not turning the ball over, the defense can't get it done.
  10. Ouch!!! I *really* hope the team turns it around this year and gets some wins. I think the main thing standing in the way of us getting more wins at this point is no longer talent but rather eliminating mental mistakes. These mistakes are leading to the daggers in our hearts each week. But... where does the fault for mental mistakes primarily lie - and how to best correct? I know that "experts" typically label teams as "Good" when they make very few mistakes and teams as "Bad" when they are mistake-prone. I would consider us a Not Very Good team right now because we make way too many mistakes. Is it coaching? Players just not keeping their heads in the game and not realizing the game situation? Both?
  11. That was the problem - our guys have to know that you can't hold a receiver on that play!!!!!!!! Just run with the receiver and make the QB make a great pass. He wouldn't have made the pass - and we win the game. Just more mental mistakes......
  12. Hate to say it, but I also think 2 more wins max. Regardless of talent, this team still makes so many mistakes on all sides of the ball that they really can only beat another bad team. So many turnovers, missed assignments on defense, and a blocked FG to start the game? I do love the fact that our team fought back and tried to make it a game, but we were out of this one by half time because of so many mistakes, and I just don't see that changing.
  13. 19,840 After beating the MUTS and ULaLa to go 2-0 in the Sun Belt, I think we have the potential for a huge Homecoming crowd against FAU
  14. UNT - 24 MUTS - 20 If our offense looks like it did in the first 2 games (long, slow drives), then I don't think the MUTS get too many chances to score a lot of points. This prediction is based on us playing a basically mistake-free game. This has to be our cleanest game so far this year to win.
  15. I also tried that voting trick and it seems to work fine. She is currently in 3rd place - time to mobilize the Mean Green Nation! 2009 Round 2 Votes Kendra Bryant (Big East) 8959 Anna Taylor (SEC) 8746 Holly Squier (Sun Belt) 7873 Danielle Roehrkasse (Mountain West) 5071 Kylie Nellis (Big Ten) 1948 Megan Phillips (Pac 10) 1793 Bailey Turner (ACC) 1260
  16. It was pretty evident that we were not running any special schemes against Alabama - pretty much our standard vanilla stuff. Our guys played hard, but our standard offense just doesn't get it done against Alabama. That game had all the markings of "get in there - play hard - don't get too beat up - collect paycheck - get home to prepare for MUTS" We'll see how that works out for us next weekend...
  17. Disappointed that Dodge isn't letting Nathan throw downfield. Our O-Line is getting pushed around pretty easy - their CB's are pressing our WR's - and the defense knows that Nathan is not going to run the ball. Why can't we just try going downfield and see what happens?
  18. Hey - the spread is down to 36 points now - someone in Vegas must really like the Mean Green!!! 'Bama -- 37 Good Guys -- 13
  19. Mostly, I think the DB just made a good play on the ball (the pick-6 INT). After a week of practice / game planning, I think Tune will do fine. I was impressed by his arm strength, and it seems that more than one GMG poster noticed in Spring/Fall drills that Tune throws the best deep ball of all our QB's. Maybe the game plan changes a bit and we stretch the field more with Tune than with Riley. The running game will be interesting, 'cause Tune really isn't a threat to run. It will be interesting to see how Dodge can get the RB's involved without relying quite so heavy on the QB option read. Riley really freezes the LB's with the option read because they have to respect his ability to run.
  20. Definitely - most of us would have given our left nut to see our team 1-1 at this point - and competitive in every game. One of Dodge's main things to figure out at this point is how to not leave so many points on the field when we are 5 yards or less from the end zone. This has happened too many times in our first 2 games - but should be a problem that can be solved (maybe some tight end formations with a TE coming across the goal line on a QB sprint out?). Hoping for good news tomorrow with Riley and Kelvin Jackson.
  21. Yes, we lost a heartbreaker and sustained a couple of key injuries that hopefully are not long-lasting. But... I'm still very proud of this team! They got smacked in chin, lost a lead, and came back to almost win the game against a pretty good bunch from Ohio. This is a much different team that we've seen the past few years that would likely have folded in the same situation. We did make some key mistakes, but let's be honest - Ohio also made some key mistakes that helped keep the game tight. They missed a wide-open receiver in the South end zone (most QB's won't miss that pass) - and they set us up with that last TD in the 2nd overtime with a really bad personal foul penalty. They had some skill players that came through in the 2nd half. I'm 50/50 on that Tune interception - probably shouldn't throw that ball, but the defender made a heck of a jump on the pass. Tune's remaining passes looked really sharp. Mostly, I hope we get healthy before the MTSU game - and that the weather cooperates!!!
  22. Yes, I think they got it right - hard to argue against 4 consecutive conference championships. At least our Golden Years occurred in this century. Some programs like Vanderbilt and Tulane have go go back into the 1920's for their claims to fame :-)
  23. 13-0 You forgot our bowl victory...
