I really don't think success at TCU (or SMU for that matter) really affects UNT one way or the other except with a handful of recruits. Regarding attendance or support for our program, that is completely up to us. I am however excited about TCU's move to the Big East. It is great for TCU (I have no affiliation with TCU, but good for them - they've worked their arses off for this and deserve a BCS conference). And... it may be great for UNT. To be honest, I really do not expect that UNT would get attention from the Mountain West at this time - but what if the Mountain West was interested in SMU to keep a DFW presence? That would open the CUSA door for UNT.

I don't know guys... just read the McCarney Bio that Harry posted, and the Bio looks pretty damn good. Keeping in mind that the Head Coach really needs to be the CEO of the football team and make the right hires, coordinate recruiting, etc., this may turn out to be a great hire. As for Coach Chico, the guy absolutely did some phenomenal things here against huge odds after taking over as Interim Head Coach. Maybe Coach Chico is offered (and interested in) an OC position at UNT -- or maybe he lands a HC position at another school. Regardless of whether or not Coach Chico remains at UNT, I will always treasure his passion and effort, and will personally wish him all the best - the guy is a winner. Here's the bottom line... I think we would have just as many folks thinking "did we settle on an emotional hire" if we went with Coach Chico as the new HC. I've met some Iowa St. alumni who are die-hards for the Cyclones, and they honestly believe that ISU is the hardest place to win in the Big 12. Anyone who can win at ISU has a great shot at UNT.

Don't get me wrong... I'm referring to a Sun Belt versus WAC debate. If the MWC came calling, of course we would jump at that offer as that would be a big upgrade in conference affiliation. When it comes to interest in watching WAC vs. Sun Belt teams, there really is no difference between MTSU/ULL/ULM versus San Jose St., Idaho, and Utah St. Actually, there is probably more interest in MTSU, etc. today because we have recent history with Sun Belt teams. My point is that the MWC and CUSA are not options today - so our best path towards success (and future conference upgrades) is to concentrate on ourselves: sell out the new stadium and win games. That will be our ticket to more conference opportunities. Until that time, the Sun Belt is a nice home. The MWC is not going to be interested in a football program with 6 consecutive losing seasons and an average attendance of 18,000. They may however be interested in a program with multiple winning seasons and multiple sellout crowds of 30,000+.

Folks - we are having a bad football year, and the Belt as a whole is having a bad football year. We can't judge long-term potential on just this year. Over the past few years, we've seen Troy, MTSU, and FAU enjoy good football success, and now FIU is on the rise. Soon, UNT will join this group (hopefully surpass this group). Bottom line: all we have to do is take care of ourselves, and the right conference membership opportunity will be at our doorstep. I think the Sun Belt is at least a stable home and known quantity at this point. Right now, our conference membership is secondary... we need to sell-out our new stadium and win games. Plus, I kinda like our hillbilly Sun Belt friends. Banjos and Cajun food -- Go Belt!

Yes, very sad indeed. This was supposed to be a Texas football fairytale. Coaching legend and super son ride into Denton and get us out of a 2-year losing ditch (Dickey's last 2 years) where the program was heading downhill very fast. I sure wish it would have worked out. The saddest part is that I believe Todd worked as hard as any college football coach and really loves UNT. Also, I believe him to be a man of very high morals who loves and wants to take care of the kids on his team. Sometimes the world is just cruel. That being said - the firing absolutely had to be done. I think all in the Mean Green Nation (including the Dodge family) had a sigh of relief when Rick finally pulled the trigger. What a huge weight off of everyone's shoulders. Now - Full Speed Ahead!!!

It's Not About Being A Dissapointed Fan...

Great posts. This is absolutely the most bizarre set of circumstances that I've seen a football program go through with all of the injuries and the way that the injuries have occurred (even going back to Summer and the Darius Carey hand injury). I can't even get mad about losing anymore this season because so much of the team's adversity is just out of their control (injuries and the tragic death of a teammate). I still do adhere to "No Excuses" and expect our leadership to make the necessary changes based on Win/Loss records, but my expectations for this year have been completely revised. I really felt badly for the team after the ULL loss, mostly because they really did fight hard. I'm really proud of the team for continuing to prepare and play with pride. I've seen teams shutdown under much less difficult circumstances. However this strange season ends, we'll have better days ahead. Let's rally around our boys, get through this mess, and keep the bar set very high for the future. -
I don't think I've ever seen a college black jersey that I really liked. Come to think of it, there aren't many black football jerseys that I think look good - the Pittsburgh Steelers jersey would be an exception (somehow it works for them with the mix of gold and white). I don't like the TTech black jersey either. OSU black jerseys also looked bad. I think our current color scheme looks pretty good - I just long for the day when we don't have to spell out the name of our school on the helmets

Wow - my crotch has never been kicked quite so hard as this football season. I was really excited about the Dodge hire 4 years ago. This was supposed to be a storybook scenario: Texas HS football coaching legend and one of the most prolific Texas HS QB's coming to our beloved UNT. At this point, I really do feel personally sorry for the Dodge family as I believe they are really great people - but the writing on the wall has never been so visible as now. As much as I wanted Dodge to succeed, my one great fear going into this season was this: that our team would scratch and claw to 7 wins, the coaching staff would remain intact, and then we would suffer through 2+ more losing seasons. This fear is based on the fact that I see how thin this team is today and how thin we may be next year barring an incredible recruiting season. I love the players on our team and will always cheer, yell, and financially support them, but our 4-year recruting hasn't been good enough. As for next year, I'm still in negotiations with the wife on club level seating, and I'll continue to increase my financial support as much as possible (plus attend all home games and hopefully some away games also). I've seen bad times - watching our team play Sam Houston St. in the cold rain at Fouts in front of *maybe* 1000 fans - and getting beat. Looking forward to better times.

Army 31 UNT 21 I'll stick to my original picks for wins and losses. I had this game as a loss initially and see no reason to change that prediction. Unfortunately, Rice was supposed to be a win. Hope I'm wrong!

New Boise St. helmet logo -- thumbs up or thumbs down? I think they're ok - the bronco is a little large for my taste ... I guess you know that you are a national program when you don't have to spell out the name of your school on the helmet anymore. I think our blocked "North Texas" looks pretty good - but I'll be happy when we can also just have an emblem (like the diving eagle) and everyone knows that We Are North Texas.

I'm having a whole lot of what he's having ...

Maybe "The site formerly known as Eagle Point"? Of the suggested names, I kinda like "The Green" - has some class to it.

A Freshman That Really Impressed Me Today
ForneyGreen replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
Ok - this is starting to make a little more sense now. While at the scrimmage, I was talking with some folks that said they were students and were there to see a QB that they had been in a class with at one point (they didn't know many names of players). So I started down the list of QB's: Thompson, Tune, Baine, Dodge - but they kept saying the guy's name was "Dodson". I thought maybe they just really didn't know the guy's name, but looks like they did... -

We could put out a call to the Women's soccer team Think Kathy Ireland... -
I received an email this afternoon from Jamie Adams - Director of Promotions Correction - The Football Scrimmage will start at 8:30 am. My son and I will be there doing the 1 Mile Run (actually he will run - I will do something that vaguely resembles running).

The Football Stadium in Denton Ok, seriously... there are so many great people in our school's history for which the stadium *could* be named after - I would rather name it something more related to our sports teams or the location. Maybe something like Mean Green Stadium or Eagle Point Stadium At least until there is a named sponsor
-
This is tough, but I have a feeling we're lucky it wasn't worse (like a crushed hand). At least he will be able to do conditioning and some route running. Would be great to have him back for the first game.

Another one that wasn't exactly within the last 10 years, but since we are strolling down a painful memory lane... 1994 Boise St 24 UNT 20 First round of the I-AA playoffs in a year that I think we could have gone very deep (maybe even one the thing) had we been able to get out of the first round. If memory serves, I believe we were ahead for most of this game until things fell apart late as Boise started blitzing on about every play.

@ Clemson - Loss 40-17 -- decent showing versus a solid team RICE - Win 30-27 -- we finally get some breaks in a close game @Army - Loss 24-20 -- we don't get the same breaks as the previous week @ Florida Atlantic - Loss 30-27 -- this loss tests the patience of our fandom and resolve of the team ULL - Win 31-17 -- big win for the good guys Ark State - Win 27-20 -- Big Mo is on our side FIU (Homecoming) - Win 37-27 -- we're rolling @WKU - Win 37-24 -- we're 5-3 !!! Troy - Loss 24-17 -- we play tough in a game that actually means something late in the season @Middle Tennessee Loss 31-16 -- we're at .500 @ULM - Win 34-20 -- huge win for Dodge Kansas State - Loss 34 - 13 -- we keep it close for a while 6 Wins 6 Losses
-
Yuck... that would be a really ugly season - but hard to argue with their prediction success. I am predicting 6 wins - the 3 that CFP predicted plus Rice @ home, LaLa @ home, and LaMo on the road. I want the Troy game to really mean something on 11/6.

Oh man - I am soooo pumped for this season!!!! Great find! Same question... What is TFT ???

This... Timetable for a baseball stadium and sponsoring men's baseball - and also what women's sport would be added to keep Title IX compliant (I assume we would have to add another women's sport - but could be wrong).

Tevinn Cantly -- #96 I think this guy is going to push others on the D-Line for playing time. I'm probably drinking way too much Green Kool-Aid in July, but somehow I'm excited to see how this D-Line is going to perform. Tevinn Cantly

From the 2010 Preview article... 2009 Misc Stats Turnover Margin: -1.17 per game (last in Sun Belt, 117th in Nation) Fix this... and I think a 7-5 2010 campain is not out of the question.
