  1. I guess we'll see over the next couple of years. I have a feeling that Jimerson is coming to UNT expecting to compete and play at the QB spot. His HUDL says 5'11" but that's likely exaggerated ๐Ÿ™‚ The guy can sure heave the ball downfield and has excellent speed.
  2. This is much more like the DC hire I expected EM to make originally. The Caponi choice was confusing to me at the time and is still confusing to me. ๐Ÿ™‚ Let's please never go back to being the "coordinator promotion" school where we promote OC's and DC's into head coaches and position coaches into OC's and DC's. Let FCS, CUSA, MAC, and Sun Belt schools be those proving grounds... we need to act and be at a different level. It is always nice to see UNT as a step-up for a D1 coach ... like when we brought McCasland over from Arkansas St.
  3. Yup - at least 2 more years of exciting 5-win football ๐Ÿ˜
  4. I have no doubt he is gone along with half of the roster. It's just a fact of life where we are with football, and some players that know they are transferring are going to start shutting things down early (not just at UNT, but something we definitely struggle with here). Not really anything we can do about it unless we start playing big in the NIL arena.
  5. No ๐Ÿ™‚ I think Mosely is also in over his head. Fortunately for him (and us), Coach Hodge was here and fell into his lap. - No confidence EM can hire the right defensive coordinator - No confidence that Mosely can hire the right football coach
  6. Problem is this program never hires well at football coach ... just one disappointing hire after another. So Morris will be here for his entire contract... then we can make a change, but doubt we'll make the right change.
  7. No one has to wonder why this program has never attracted a sizable fan base ... no signature wins, and we perform poorly in front of our largest crowds. This program just isn't capable of turning the corner.
  8. We need to let Caponi go and show that this program has turned the corner on expectations. This won't happen... but it is what *needs* to happen, and it would send a clear message that our program won't tolerate horrible play. This wouldn't negatively impact our outcome this year as our defense is already one of the worst in D1, but it would be a wake-up call to the staff and would allow us to start the interview process for our next DC... and give Caponi a head-start finding a better fit for him.
  9. And you're relying on all-world linebackers - every successful 3-3-5 team (or "stack" defense) has stud linebackers and a very good or even great 3-man DL. In theory, the 3-3-5 should work well against spread offenses, but it's very high-risk, high-reward and requires a really high level of talent to be successful. Unless a really rich guy bank-rolls a UNT NIL, we're not going to have the money to bring in 3-3-5 talent. Much better to run a defense that protects the box and can put pressure on the QB with 2 end rushers, even without all-world talent.
  10. This football program has been a joke for a long time and will continue to be a joke. They should be humiliated by today's game - but I doubt they feel that way at all - and that is a big leadership issue we've had for a long time at UNT.
  11. Actually, I think about Arkansas and their original defection to the SEC from the SWC back in the day. At that time, the Arkansas defection from the SWC was shocking and very unusual... today, teams move around all of the time. ๐Ÿ™‚ the PAC2+ will be a glorified G6 conference, but it does offer some big financial incentives in the short term. It would be interesting if the PAC2+ wants to include a couple of Texas schools to get to 8 members (e.g. UNT & Rice ... D/FW and Houston).
  12. True - however, for players that have NFL aspirations, not playing (or playing very little) is not going to get the attention of scouts... whereas getting on the field and dominating will get a lot of attention.
  13. For anyone who hasn't experienced the greatness of Hutchins, you should treat yourself the next time you are in either Frisco or McKinney. Some of the best brisket I've had (and other good stuff too). And... since UNT has expanded into Frisco, I guess we can claim Hutchins as a UNT BBQ place ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  14. Steton Hall was a strong team - tonight was their only real challenge through the tournament. I thought Seton Hall would win tonight, but ISU played hard and proud. We were definitely eliminated by a really good team.
  15. This is my concern also. Are we just not paying as much with NIL as our AAC peers? Why are other schools able to retain their elite players? EDIT: I see now that East Carolina has 5 players entering the portal, so not feeling so bad ๐Ÿ™‚ Still wish we were able to keep our best talent.
  16. I thought it was interesting to see Hodge loosen-up the offense and shot clock management a bit toward the end of the conference slate. The first half of the season was very McCasland-like where we would score in the mid-60's and try holding the opponent to low-60's or less. Our latest games have been pretty different scoring in the 70's and 80's. I wonder if this "new, faster" pace is more of what Hodge wants to run in the future?
  17. I would think there's a good possibility of a CBI invite based on our record (18 wins), reaching the quarterfinals of the AAC tourny, and having a NET ranking probably in the 70's. 100 teams go to the NCAA tourny (68) and NIT tourny (32). The CBI takes 16 teams, so it seems we would have a good shot if Hodge and the team want to participate. The CBI is a little weird because you need to be invited and also agree to pay into the tourny (like $28k).
  18. Wow - that was big to get a road win when we only shot 20.8% from 3-pt range. I'm not sure what our season average is from 3-pt range, but guessing around 35%
  19. Having Earle here as a ready-to-go backup makes me feel more comfortable given Morris' injury history ... plus he can push Morris a bit just as he pushed Rogers last year.
  20. 4 Home Games in a row: Army, East Carolina, Tulane, and Tulsa ... that is pretty awesome. All in all, I really like this schedule! I would rather have our 2 first games flipped... would be great to start with SFA at home and then go to USA ... but otherwise I'm a happy camper.
  21. This is really what I would expect based on player production (6 all-conference players - none on first team) *except* for Rogers not even being 3rd Team which really seems to be some major disrespect. That being said... we need to ensure Rogers is NIL compensated at UNT - he's an outstanding young man, excellent QB, and a great representative for the Mean Green.
  22. Since Rogers has already transferred (twice I believe?), he would need a waiver from the NCAA to grad transfer if I understand the rules correctly. That being said, waivers have been pretty easy for big programs to get from the NCAA historically... although the NCAA is supposedly implementing tougher waiver guidelines based on their 2023 Convention. From the NCAA Transfer Rules Page ... Q13: What if the student-athlete transferred previously from another four-year school as an undergraduate student A13: Generally, a student-athlete who has previously transferred from another four-year school would not be able to use the one-time exception as a postgraduate transfer. However, a waiver process exists for postgraduate students with a previous transfer history.
  23. From the SMU locker room... "Alright guys, we're not paying you thousands of dollars to go out and lose to a bunch of student athletes from up the freeway! Now go out there and earn your BMW's in the 2nd half!!" ๐Ÿคฃ
  24. What's even more bothersome is that SMU and other programs with mega-million NILs can come and buy our best players after each season, meaning programs like ours will be in a constant year-over-year rebuilding mode through the transfer portal trying to pick-up P5 scraps (Texas State style). I agree that I really see no reason to play SMU or any mega-million NIL school in the future. Let them play together and attempt to out-spend each other by throwing bad money over bad. So much for student athletes! ๐Ÿ˜„
  25. SMU - 62 UNT - 24 This is going to be a beat down of epic proportions unfortunately ๐Ÿ˜
