  1. Yeah, it's going to be REAL interesting when Riley gets here, not because I believe there will be much of a controversy (Vizza has shown he can lead an offense), but because I do have to wonder what you then do with Riley. I still believe you redshirt him and have him backup until it's time for him to start his last two years. It's likely the best option. BUT, I've already seen that Dodge will try to get the best athletes on the field. So would you then try to find a place for Riley, given all the things he brings to the table? Now, the one place I've seen Riley mentioned most often as an alternative has been at WR, but the relative depth we have at that position and our strong recruiting in that area makes it hard for me to see that. But what about as a flex RB/QB? I would even mention that perhaps he could be converted to a DB of some kind, but I'd be really hesitant to move him off of offense, myself.
  2. agreed. just like 99% of the posters on this board couldn't tell you who has the record for most turnovers given up in a season.
  3. Agreed. While we've certainly laid some eggs, I've not looked into our upcoming games EXPECTING the team to lay an egg (which had been the case the last several years), despite the coaching transition and learning curve. We have seen some amazing football this year, especially compared to years past, where a lot of times the team just looked lost. Did we lose games we should've won? Yep. I'd actually have a hard time saying that about most games in the DD era.
  4. I agree. It's one thing to take what a defense gives you, but allowing them to dictate how you play and take you out of YOUR game before you even step out on the field is a mistake. I liked the adjustment to some degree and especially at the end of the game, because it showed our offensive playcalling HAS developed throughout the season, and it was apparent that Todge and company wanted to slow down the game some with us in the lead. Letting teams like Navy score quickly to end the half (TWO possessions in very little time) and continually backing out of FG range early on this year have hurt, and they wanted to avoid these scenarios. Unfortunately, though, you still have to try and knock your opponents out, and we ALL KNOW how our defense is. Oh, and if you're going to get conservative with your offense and take what they're giving you, then you need to have a few more traditional (read: NOT SHOTGUN) sets, especially when you're pounding the ball late in the game.
  5. Halftime = UNT - 21 ASU - 7
  6. Good punt, but Davenport gets a call for fair catch interference.
  7. Vizza sacked. Screen for no gain. 3rd and forever.
  8. defense holds, blocks FG.
  9. sack for Gilmore. 2nd and 18 for ASU. short pass for 2 yards. 3rd and 16. Cliff Higgs bats down the pass on 3rd down. Roman muffs the punt, under review.
  10. Micah Mosley makes it 14-0.
  11. I know they had the #1 rushing offense (and still do), but I think their offensive scoring was also pretty high. I seem to recall them being very good everywhere but passing yards, though their passing EFFICIENCY was really high as well. I could be wrong on some of that as I've slept since then. Barring any illumination regarding this, the Navy game went pretty much exactly as expected: Navy = GOOD offense/ BAD defense UNT = BAD offense/ BAD defense Two of the worst Ds in the nation squared off, but Navy with the better O = shootout with Navy on top and a ridiculous number of points scored.
  12. No. We actually weren't.
  13. 1) The NCAA statistics. For the entire season, we ranked from 103-109 in scoring until Navy. I believe we were at 103 before the Navy game. We did rack up a lot of passing yards, thanks to a ridiculous number of possessions, a passing offense (just like Flanigan's offenses were usually ranked high in rushing, because we ran the ball all the time), and a D that didn't allow any long drives because people score in like 30 seconds (hey, more opportunities for the O to accumulate meaningless stats!) 2) Our gratuitous turnover differential. Not just an indictment on our D's inability to get stops or pressure. Throwing a bunch of interceptions and fumbling the ball away do not make for a productive offense, I don't care how many yards we put up between the 20s. 3) Backing out of field goal range. I don't have a final count, and it would take a while to compile, but I believe it's at least 6 or 7 times this year we've been in FG range, thrown negative yard screens and gotten sacked to move out of FG range. I know we did it at least 3 times in one game, so the number could be as high as 9 or 10 I would think. Our offense seems to be getting better, but we just played the WORST PASSING DEFENSE IN THE COUNTRY. Our boys executed. They did exactly what they were supposed to. They did a great job. But until they can regularly put up points on teams other than SMU and Navy, I'll withhold effusive praise about how this offense, which could barely score against Troy or ULM, turned the ball over 5 times vs. the MUTS, 4 times vs. ULL, 3 times vs. FAU, etc..
  14. Yep, as long as we play terrible defenses, we'll be able to score a lot of points. Otherwise, we'll be around the bottom 20 offensive powerhouse we were before Navy.
  15. No, it doesn't. You're not a real university supporter, sorry. I don't care if you have kids or a job or anything, you should re-prioritize your life around a sport you don't care about if you want people you don't know to consider you a proper Mean Green fan. Also, if you've ever been to a football game, you're a hypocrit. I don't know how, but you are. Only jerks watch NT basketball on the internet when they should be in the Pit. And you smell funny. Now please come and hang out with me at the basketball games.
  16. Hey, I'm a fan of Vizza and think he's doing an excellent job, BUT... how come nobody mentions the coincidence of our offensive awakening with facing the only other defense in the country close to as bad as ours?
  17. Or maybe they consider him talented enough to compete at DB moreso than our other LBs. Perhaps, due to our problems in the secondary and general depth at LB, they felt it was the best utilization of present talent.
  18. I like how you talk about generalizations and then bring up the IMAGE that Pflugerville creates for you, as if it offered any relevance. Well, the importance of Miller's comments are that, if someone alleges there are different rules for black players, and a black player says they are unaware of them, it makes a case very very hard on the person making these allegations. If the deciding factor is supposedly RACE and not something else (like missing practice or insubordination), then it just doesn't make sense that some black players are not seeing this supposed racism. Are they not black? Essentially, right now it looks like there are different rules for black players who have been suspended or were pissed off about playing time and got into arguments with coaches. Note that Miller has been in trouble with the staff himself. It's obviously a problem with Dodge, though. He sets up different rules for the black athletes and then has copies of his black and white separate rulebooks handed out to his staff so that they can all get together and properly enforce the WHITE RULES and BLACK RULES accordingly.
  19. This is the part that seems to get missed, and the first thing that's made sense.
  20. Yikes. If bunches of turnovers in our own territory is ok, I hate to see what's considered bad.
  21. This report sounds like it was written by a 6th-grader. No opportunity for hyperbolic adjectives has been missed. No real analysis. Again, someone just reads the stat sheets. And I think it's funny that the inconsistency of Vizza is due to his completing "just 52.5%" of his passes, while part of Dasher's success is illustrated by his 54.8% completion percentage. Not like he's completing 60%. Note that as a starter, mind you, Vizza's completion percentage has been 58.4%. Not to say that he HASN'T been inconsistent, because he certainly has. And Dasher himself is a true freshman playing some outstanding football, but he's throwing the ball significantly less than we are, so a completion percentage 2 points higher is fairly irrelevant. One of several major differences between the teams' offenses. We don't run the ball nearly as well, and they have a very solid O-Line.
  22. Yep.
  23. What gives is that we would've lost even if Troy only scored 10 points, because our offense was schooled. We failed to score more than once after SEVEN turnovers. The weakest part of our team for several weeks has been offense, not defense.
