Good news, guys. I just had a meeting with my accountant, and at my current rate of savings, with investments, I should be a billionaire by the year 2387.

I miss the good ol' days, when all our Mexicans were played by Jews. Now, they're all played by Luis Guzman, and I dunno WHAT he is, other than completely out of place in The Count of Monte Cristo. Point being, I blame polar bears. -
College Footballs $ 1.1 Billion Profit

They are welcome to more fair ways to earn their college education, if playing football doesn't work for them. -
Yeah, doesn't look very good to me, and it has nothing to do with Smitty's talent. It's too weighted towards the front side of the helmet, IMO. If you drop it back to center it, it looks like it's diving into their earhole. It's just a bad logo for a helmet. I'm all for cutting the wings off and using those. However, I don't see any reason why we should force a logo onto a helmet if it doesn't look right.

SOW is at the wrong angle for helmets, and it looks terrible on them.

Like the design. Still think there needs to be a little more white on the all greens. Could be something as simple as thicker white piping or a white stripe on the cuff. Maybe just a white belt. Nothing big. I prefer sticking with a white helmet as well. One thing I'd like to see (from anyone) is the wing portion ripped off of the SOW logo, angled a bit back counterclockwise, and put on the side of the helmet. The angle of the swooping eagle just doesn't work with the helmets, and I've tried the other logos to no avail. This would be something similar to the ram horn or the eagle wing (Philly) or old Rice helmets, but it's still a unique wing.

Missed this post earlier, but I like this logo (and variants) the best.

I'd like to see us have the claw "Mean Green" logo on our helmet. I think it's the most unique, we shouldn't be investing in new logos, and I don't like spelling out the school name. Hard to find the logo around... http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=m1scwttd4o8qzzccziyki328e

Correct. I also have a problem believing that a K-State coach didn't actually care what the scoreboard said. Maybe someone can call him up and see if they'd like to protest their win and forfeit it to us, since we beat them that day in all the categories that don't matter, like hearts and minds.

Every year, the goals are the same. 1) Win the Sun Belt 2) Get in a Bowl Game I think both are achievable next year, if only because the Sun Belt was so craptastic this year that there's no one there to really scare you. That said, when the most wins you've had the last umpteen years is 3, I think setting the bar for next year at a 6-win/Bowl Game season is probably more realistic. Next year, we'd better be .500. It isn't that hard. But it's not like I'll be calling for a new staff's heads if we only win 4. But I think Mac gets at least 4 years, unless the first 2 are as abysmal as the last 2. I just really don't see any way that happens with this staff and facilities and committment. Once you start regularly competing, you increase the goals of the team. At some point, we'll have to start winning OOC and bowl games. We're just sadly not there yet. I think we could easily get there in the next few years. But you gotta put things in their proper order.
-
Also, keep in mind that we have some people at TE who could potentially move to other positions of need. You recruit the best talent you can get, period. Then you make the best use of that talent.
-
Agreed. The Sun Belt was AWFUL this year. One of the major problems with the Belt is that, since our run, nobody has seemed to want to take command of it. You simply can't afford parity at the lowest levels of FBS, nor can you afford to take any steps backward (as we did the last several years under Darrell Dickey). I think it's been an issue, and remains one, that many people in the Sun Belt have taken a mentality of "We deserve better than the Belt" without actually doing anything to prove it through facilities, salaries, or consistent winning. People just want a ticket out. Think about it. We've been wallowing around in the muck since our bowl run, and nobody's seized control or made any significant gains. Hopefully, the Belt is waking up to the idea that you have to take care of your own business, and worry about improving your conference affiliation once you've actually, you know, done something. I agree with the sentiment that things are improving, even if only because the new stadium and coaching staff/salaries can put pressure on the Belt to keep pace. I don't know that everyone can. And if they can't, then with increasing resources, we SHOULD be able to dominate again. If we can't, then we don't deserve any better.

I just ran the 26 miles home from work... towing my car from a chain in my teeth. It was in Park with the emergency brake on.

I was around for 1-AA and the Big West Days. In fact, that's when I was in school and went to every game. Even during the run, you could look at the bowl win against the Bearcats as the absolute highest high the program had. And that's how I felt at the time. Tailgaiting is great, but it's nothing like real coaching salaries and a new stadium. I have serious doubts that MOST of any group thought we were on our way to anything significant playing in the Sun Belt without competitive salaries for coaches and poor facilities. There's a big college football world out there, and we are just now scratching at the surface of having a real program.
-
I'm way more excited now than I was during the conference win streak, because at the time I still didn't see us getting any better than the level we currently were. I loved the streak and the bowl win, but we failed to compete outside of the Sun Belt, our facilities were garbage, and we still had no real sign of commitment from the administration.
-
You must have a hard time getting excited about a lot of good QBs. A good number of QBs at those 4A and 5A programs succeed by being surrounded with top talent from a much bigger talent pool. I might like the odds better with a good 4A/5A QB, but I wouldn't snub my nose at the potential for another Colt McCoy or Kellen Moore (or probably numerous other 3A and lower QBs that I don't know off the top of my head).
-
That's exactly why this excitement is different. You can feel all of this building. Facilities and salaries are all headed in the right direction. It's now more than a pipe dream that UNT could actually take that next step.

Good kid, FWIW. Gotten calls from an increasing number of teams lately.
