  1. Good thing is that he's getting to stay at a school for the first time ever. He's played in 3 different high schools/3 different systems in his high school career. When his dad went to work for Arizona, they decided to keep the family in Pennsylvania so Mack could finish up his senior year at NA. Definitely an intriguing prospect. I have a feeling a lot of his decision-making will depend on the location of his dad and the contacts he's made in at least 3 states (Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania).
  2. Well, good news is they're not going to ASK.
  3. If it's immortality, I might have to sign up for some night classes. No wonder all the VPs of Finance I know look like vampires. Or, at least, I imagine they would, if I knew any.
  4. Looks like me paying the same price for airfare and having to share a 3rd of my seat with some fatso's disgusting rolls.
  5. Let me know when the morbidly obese can't eat donuts on campus or at their workplace.
  6. Not since the Nazis, anyway.
  7. Facebook at IPO wasn't a great idea because they've simply not put any resources into monetizing their traffic to this point. There IS money to be made, but as meangreendork mentioned, it will have to be in more effectively targeted marketing. Drive by ads have a ridiculously low click rate on facebook. Nobody's there looking for crap to buy online. Now, once it can effectively start delivering local incentive-type ads to people, like Groupon, for an extremely lazy example, then it will have an actual business model. Until then, it's just a money sink for investors to be in on a "trend."
  8. Exactly why they should ban smokers and grills from the parking and tailgate areas at football games, right? And hopefully, soon, they'll ban automobiles from campus as well.
  9. Actually, if someone is suspended for drug violations, you don't need a clause in a contract. By the CBA, it's an unpaid suspension. He's already a big time loser in the drug program. Another drug relapse and he's done, and the Rangers won't be on the hook from him if he's banned from baseball. The big risk then is the fact that you've already paid him something and now you don't have a player. The relapse risk is the same as the injury risk. Well, actually, it's less, because with injury, you're still paying the guy, and he's been injured more than he's relapsed into alcohol.
  10. Good point. Old people driving slow cause as many accidents as a-holes going 110 mph. And old people walking slow make me late for things, which stresses me out, and exacerbates my ulcers, causing serious health problems. Have you ever tried to walk into a building on campus behind old people? The sad thing is, only the people in the front of the line were old when it started forming.
  11. Hamilton's contract will be the trending topic whenever a) he has a crazy good game like that he goes on the DL or c) he gets drunk at a Chili's and tries to have sex with the hand drier in the restroom.
  12. I am not concerned with Josh's person in how it regards to his contract, so, no. Yep, one drink is a problem FOR HIM. However, twice now, his relapse has resulted in what damage to the team, exactly? If it results in his relapsing into drug addiction, that will void his contract. I've met Josh before, and he seems like a nice guy. But if all of his relapses are like the last two, then it's much ado about nothing in regards to the team. FWIW, Josh has stated multiple times that he's willing to have clauses put in place re: relapses and outside behavior. He's plenty accountable in that regard. As an addict, and a person who has very careful rules for how I cope, I know all too well what Josh has to deal with. It is, however, irrelevant to his contract. It is also irrelevant to my post. If you would like to make more ridiculous assumptions about my knowledge and/or character, I'd ask that you PM me. I read too much bs at work as it is.
  13. The Angels might have a lot of money coming off the books, but they also have a crap-ton of money still on the books and have most of it invested into a few players. Josh should be signed. Relapsing isn't really a worry to me, because a true relapse will void the contract. Otherwise, we're talking about him drinking... errr.... 130 games of Josh + 30 games of my bed-ridden uncle > 160 games of most everyone else. It IS risky, but you can take the risk on talent. You've got a good Cuban CF in Leonys Martin who was coming along nicely before he tore his thumb ligament (another reason why people like Josh need to stop sliding head-first), so I'd like for Josh to be relegated to 3rd/emergency CF only long-term, with most of his time eventually coming at LF, 1B, DH. Unlike Nellie, he has the body type and skillset to remain a viable player into his 30s. Personally, I'd like them to make a play at Napoli, too, for positional scarcity. It's not like it'll be a Pujols contract where you're paying someone $26 million in their mid-40s.
  14. Just as noise and stress affects others in a negative way, even if they're quiet and courteous. So, I believe the campus should ban d-bags and children. Now, I know SOME people are courteous and manage to control their children in public places, but since I personally believe that is not the case with the majority of people with children, and that most let them run around like monkeys these days, the campus needs to ban them. No more children or d-bags on gameday, please. An actual compromise would be to designate and limit smoking areas. You can, for instance (as I've seen it done) have it available at only ONE inconvenient back entrance to certain buildings. And for the record, I don't smoke.
  15. Nolan is a very good director, but I've yet to be blown away by anything he's done. The Dark Knight, IMO, was his best film, in no small part due to a singularly brilliant performance by Ledger.
  16. It's nice to say that all those guys are busts or injury prone, but the reality is they've also all contributed in some way in the NFL. People need to tap the brakes a little bit. Lance has a great opportunity here, and it's really good news. He'll have to contribute on special teams AND prove more valuable than Tanner in order to just make the 3rd string. Baby steps.
  17. Yeah, my dad was a teacher for 30+ years. He was up at 5, worked 10 hour days at school, was generally working another 2-3 hours on paperwork each night, and worked probably half of every Sunday on lesson plans, grading, creating assignments, etc. There were also a lot of school-related events that were "optional". I think if you're a crappy teacher, then, yeah, it's a pretty cushy gig. You get summers and holidays off for the most part. But they don't make any money, and I think people that take the job of education lightly ought to be euthanized and parted out for their organs. It's a generally thankless job, and it's not one I'd want. It's pay is not commensurate with hours worked or the difficulties it presents. Also, they don't get entire summers off. Usually a couple of weeks after the school year, they're still working. Then there will be a couple of inservices during the summer. Then they start working a few weeks before the school year, which starts in mid-August. Any teacher who says it's easy was simply just a terrible teacher who didn't do their job. I also know crappy cops and crappy lawyers and crappy doctors who barely do the minimum for theirs as well. Doesn't mean that's the standard.
  18. Yeah, I just don't see there being enough evidence for conviction. It's going to be hard to PROVE Zimmerman was the aggressor. Once the fight starts, the escalation and deadly force response are almost irrelevant. This will come down to "Can we PROVE Zimmerman started the fight." Doesn't have anything to do with what people think. And that's the way it works. And that's the way it's supposed to work.
  19. In somewhat related news, someone came onto my parents' property last week and tied a noose around a dog, wrapped the rope around my moms front wheel and back wheel, and then looped it back through the noose.
  20. He's going to play football, yes, but he's always had the consideration of dropping football and playing baseball. He wasn't going to come to a school that doesn't have his alternate plan (baseball). He almost didn't sign with Tech after their coaching change, and considered going to UT or OU for baseball. He might not play baseball at La Tech, but at least it's an option.
  21. Ziggy says there's a 38.6% chance he's the next Seneca Wallace.
  22. A lot of terrible assumptions in the article that make it pure bunk. Yes, if you could buy health insurance across states, your premium would still be based on your location. BUT, you wouldn't be subject to the whims of monopolies, risk pools would be larger, etc. He states that a policy from someone in another state, offering you the same coverage as Blue Cross Blue Shield of California, would cost the same to the company. This is patently false, however, due to overhead, and, once again, risk pools. BCBS of California, ONLY insuring people in California (and thus subject in ALL of their dealings to the full restrictions placed on them by the State of California) have to make ALL OF THEIR MONEY off of people in the state of California. A company based in Texas, on the other hand, could leverage profits from one state or multiple states, in order to allow them to cover costs for a smaller profit margin in California. Again, this is what I do for a living, and I know there are others more involved in private insurance here who probably have a good idea, too. I don't understand how one can complain about the cost of health coverage and in the same breath discourage competition. All Obamacare does is funnel more money to health insurance companies. Already they've gained millions of dollars by forcing people to cover their 26-yr-old children with comprehensive insurance they don't need. And, yes, any Republican plan will do the same thing. You know which party insurance companies, drug companies, and oil companies support most? Both of them. Once again, nothing in ANY plan they're putting forth deals with the ACTUAL costs of health CARE. They deal with how best to pay these artificially high costs through health INSURANCE.
  23. This just bears (bares? beres? bairs?) repeating.
  24. I doubt anyone can actually read your posts. And what I can decipher appears to be nonsense.
