Professional coaches aren't there to MIX it up. They're trying to win games, and you don't win a lot of games playing herky-jerk with a QB because he throws an INT. Amidst all this talk about our QB, I've yet to see anyone talk about bringing in a backup. Tackle after the first time DT got sacked, or putting in backup DBs after every 40-yd completion we give up, or backup Defensive Linemen after every play where they fail to get a push. For some reason, people think putting in another QB with as many or more of the same deficiencies as DT is going to be a miracle cure that saves an offense devoid of playmakers and inspires a lackluster defense. You won't win games and you certainly won't win a locker room. DT is in because Mac believes he's a superior player that gives him a better chance to win. If you can't make all the reads and throws and impress the coaches in Spring, Summer, and Fall practices, then you don't deserve to be there at game time. Players know that. Coaches know that. There's no bigger indictment on our recruiting at the position of QB than the fact that nobody has managed to unseat DT. The door has been wide open. If you believe that the coaches haven't given Osborne a fair shake, or that Osborne is a better QB than DT, then you should be calling for the coaches' heads because they can't evaluate talent.

If we don't have the expectation to be COMPETITIVE (not even win or be good) against the bottom half of FBS, then it's time to shut it down. If it takes overachieving to come close to Troy or a 30 point loss to MTSU is the expectation, then there's no reason to field a football team, unless North Texas has so many rich alumni that really want to spend their money on watching a national joke. There aren't enough WORSE teams in FBS beyond who we already play in order to justify accepting these losses, no matter what. Yes, we're bad. But you don't go out there with the expectation that you're just going to stay that bad. That's not what coaches are paid for, it's not why you hand out scholarships. You expect PROGRESS. I'm assuming that the "Troy and MTSU are greyhounds" statement is a bit. It's too ridiculous to be anything else.
-
Exactly. We SHOULD be able to be competitive with CUSA already. While they're a step up from the Belt in prestige and talent, it isn't the SEC. I'm not saying I have the expectation to go into CUSA like gangbusters when we're not great even in the Sun Belt, but we damn well better be progressing. I expect IMPROVEMENT next year. I settle, more than I used to, for competitiveness. I can handle losing to MTSU. I can't handle not being competitive.

Sooo are we still against coach Mac's rush heavy offense?

Regardless of whether or not it's "tough" on some people, it's absolutely the right way to go, because it plays into the strengths of this team's talents, and hides its flaws. Also, against teams that out-athlete you (SEE: EVERYONE), you don't want to get into a foot race (SEE: TODD DODGE) As demonstrated statistically, this is still far far away from the percentages you'd see with Dickey ball. The real test will be in recruiting. if we can't ever recruit up to the level of CUSA and beyond, it will absolutely fail, just as Dickey's did when recruiting slid. Wisconsin does fine with these percentages. We can, too. But we'll have to recruit up. And we'll have to execute. -
Does North Texas have fraternaties?

I hear that area was hell on wagon wheels back then. -
The TV replay angle on that Y'Barbo block is the best. He was airborne.

Uh-oh. Here comes the black uniform talk again.

Unconfirmed? I guess if you were from where he's from, you'd just know.

I think there needs to be a vote on the REAL reason Mac needs the glasses. There aren't any problems with his eyes, folks. It's just that looking into them would be like looking into the face of a thousand suns... suns that told you the future... a future you're not ready to hear. And Mac doesn't want us all wandering around blindly with our minds blown out our ears. They might be HIS glasses, but they're for YOUR safety.

Broadway was in the whole game. But they're starting QB, Blaine Gautier, is out. But having Broadway (a top tier 4-star recruit, btw) in vs. us isn't what hurt them.

If he ran more than 30 yards, there's no way that ESPN camera crew caught it.

The coaches utilized a game plan to perfection that allowed all 3 running backs to make big plays. I don't see what the big deal is about playing time.

Not even close to Dickey ball. Way more variation in both the types of runs and types of passing. -
Turn to espn2 right now! They've almost located that last Broadway deep pass!

I can't wait until the day when we've got some kind of service... like a national climate somethingerother, that could predict what temperatures would be like in the very near future. I mean, I guess even if that happened, we'd need some sort of device, perhaps a mobile device, that could give us that information. All that would be needed after that is the foresight to acquire such information on places one might wish to travel to during that timeframe. I know, I know... it all sounds too astounding to be possible. But what can I say, I'm a dreamer.

You really don't want to play roulette at kick or punt returner.
-
THAT'S how you finish a ballgame. Fantastic playcall and execution.

I'm of the opinion that we're at a point where we need to find excuses for the general, uncaring, casual type fans to make a big deal about every game. Promotions matter. ESPN2 is another way to promote the game. We still need more promotions - cheesy, meaningless, or otherwise. People are making a big deal about it because we're playing a football game on National TV and they're fans of the program. People on this board make a big deal about every game, and rightly so.

Which is a different question entirely. Is McCarney > Dodge? Absolutely. He's a legit FBS football coach. But that doesn't point to whether or not he's good. If being better than Dodge is the only criteria, then there's a LOT of good coaches out there who are going to lose their jobs this year. McCarney will get his time, just as Dodge did. At the very least, he will answer the question if he is a good coach FOR US in that time. In the end, it will come down to how many Ws the Mean Green accumulate in his tenure.
-
Not sure you should use Dodge as the bar.
