When is snack time?

Interesting. Nebraska was only going to take one RB, and they got Tre Bryant, a Kansas State de-commit who flipped in November. So I'm betting they pulled their offer at that time. It looks like the same thing from Arkansas State may have happened. They got Armond Weh-Weh in late January. He was a former Texas Tech commit coming out of JUCO. I couldn't say about the rest of his offers, but this may just be a guy who lost opportunities over time. It happens. It could be any number of things. http://newsok.com/article/5433713

Noticed these are the dark green Sun Belt uniforms? Do they have any of the black ones from that era? *ducks*

Yep. All of this. Parents, coaches, media... we're gonna have to earn our way out of our position with winning. Until we do that... for a while, the teams that have always beaten us in recruiting will continue to do so. And our position, as maybe UNT90 is aware, is the direct responsibility of the AD. But the damage is done. This school killed football a long time ago, and has been burying it deeper every year.

We can hope to compete with SMU in recruiting. We can hope for a team of Pegasi to fly our team to away games on a magical sleigh. It won't happen, though. It hasn't happened in forever. They were in the SWC and we were in I-AA. We COULD outrecruit them, but it would probably take something better than 80% losing seasons over 20 years to accomplish it. A shiny new coach isn't going to do that.

I generally have been giving C, C-, C+. And those are the grades I'd give no matter what. If he pulled in nobody or some amazing class. Because I don't give a shit and his team hasn't played a single down. Winning the off season is a big deal if you do it consistently... Which pretty much nobody at our level does, or they wouldn't be at our level. I like the coaching hire. I'm personally excited about next season. But I can't get too worked up one way or another about the coaching staff. So far, nothing has come in below or above expectations.

Yes, Littrell recruited him as a sophomore, I think.

JUST using 247 sports because of laziness, not maliciousness. Anyone else is welcome to pull their own data. Since 2003, we've beaten Tulane's recruiting class 3 times: in 2005 (#92 to #95), 2007 (#95 to 104), 2008 (#57 to#101), McCarney's first recruiting class was ranked 105, btw. Our top 10 recruits in that era were (Decide for yourselves what we accomplished w/ each of them): 1) Nate Jenkins - 2008 2) Michael Pruitt - 2003 3) Riley Dodge - 2008 4) Kevin Dillman - 2015 5) Darrien McNair - 2015 6) Boone Feldt - 2012 7) Caleb Chumley - 2014 8) Alonzo Horton - 2008 9) Justin Edwards - 2008 10) Troy Franklin - 2008

Yeah, I just didn't feel like listing EVERY school on earth that has beaten us with this.

Okay, I'm gonna hate posting this..... Right now, Litrell is going to have to COACH his way out of this mess, and over multiple years, because it's a mess 20 years in the making. You have TWO arguments to sell to recruits right now: 1) Shiny New Coaches! and 2) Playing Time! Outside of that, competitively you're recruiting against FCS. People act like that's some terrible thing, and it is, but only because that's where we are as a program. We've lost, what, 20 of 24 seasons since Dickey started? Think about that. And in the meantime, college football has gotten bigger and more competitive. We've sunk further away from the top during that timeframe. Teams like TCU and Baylor we were legitimately competitive with, even though they have always out-recruited and out-resourced us. As I've done the draft pick research, when it comes to competition with our peers, I've yet to find a team that CAN'T use the "more players drafted" argument to recruit against us. That includes teams like La Tech, Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Tulane, UL-Lafayette. If you're a recruit who's looking to play at the next level, we're automatically behind those guys. The only team that hasn't is UTSA.... that's it. I could also include a number of FCS teams in there, so take that FWIW. I'm just trying to be objective. Yeah, a better NAME at HC might have brought in better recruits this year... until we had a losing season. Because a losing season is "another losing season" here, and a winning season is "Five-year Extensions All Around!" So how do I sell recruits here? I have no idea. Anybody who can is better than me. I have no problem admitting this.

I don't think there's anything to scratch one's head over. We have a short recruiting season. We have a transfer QB for the upcoming year with 1 year of eligibility. Outside of that.... So, in my opinion, what the coaches have done is gone out and gotten a HS QB who they believe, if nothing else, has a very high level of understanding of the offense. I don't think anyone, coaches included, is pinning all their hopes of glory on one QB recruit, even if he were a 3*-4* guy. But they want someone they're not going to have to completely re-make if he has to start early, because we have a whole lot of nothing else. Also, we have coaches who are from the state of Oklahoma and interested in tapping into those schools, including a number of the smaller schools in the state. They'll continue to mine that level for the best players from it. Recruiting is a complicated game. We're attempting to recruit guys like Starkel AND guys like Fine, but don't be surprised by which ones we're getting under scholarship following 20 years of futility. -

To be fair, Southern Miss, despite 3 terrible years, had 18 consecutive winning seasons up until that point, and has put names like Khyri Thornton and Jamie Collins in the NFL. They went to something like 14 bowl games in 15 years prior. -
And much better football and history over the last 20 years. You know, winning. Tulane might suck right now, but they were in the national conversation not too long ago, and have had 12 NFL players drafted since 2000, including a couple of first rounders. Sad as it may seem, we aren't in the same league with them until we prove otherwise. Tulsa's only had 6, and mostly late rounders, although Charles Clay is a top TE in the league. However, they're in a better conference, and, since 2000, they're a .500 team. Keep in mind that that's counting their worst stretch, 2000-2002, where they went 7-28. Over the last 10 years, they are 74-55. Over the last 10 years, North Texas is ..... abysmal. Dan McCarney was our most successful head coach, and he got blown out by 60 points to Portland State. We've had ONE player drafted since 2000, Cody Spencer, in the 6th round. The simple fact is we aren't even in the same league as they are, or most of our conference-mates when it comes to things that top tier football recruits really look at. We SHOULD be. But we aren't. Diversity, enrollment, location, amenities, uniforms, chicks, cool buildings, stadium, etc. are all things you can sell to a recruit when all football things are equal.
