I totally get where you're going. It's the script, right? People hate the script, so it's distracting?

DRC: breaking - Consultants report critical of UNT
Monkeypox replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Man, we KNEW it was a shit-show, but this report made me sick to my stomach. -
Woohoo!!! GMG!

Offense and defense both fell apart in crunch time.

Yeah, I can ignore the performance against Florida. But what's the excuse for them struggling to get open vs. Bethune-Cookman?
-
I'd be less concerned if the blocking weren't also an issue in the BC game. I think part of it is underestimating the difficulty in changing the offensive systems. I don't think their struggles should be unexpected at this point. I expect great improvement from Barr and Murray over the next few years. They're both sophomores whose freshman years were wasted in last year's hell, now on their 2nd system. Both have the skillset and frames to do good work.

Two future opponents play tonight (Rice and UTSA)
Monkeypox replied to GMG24's topic in Mean Green Football
28-12 UTSA. -
What's a "target audience"? Who are "people"?
-
Yeah, I know what they were doing, which was including elements from different eras, but I think it would've looked more cohesive if they'd outlined the eagle with the dark green, and then put lime green accents on the jersey and pants. Still, this logo speaks to me, and I wasn't even around when we used it.

I think we should find an opportunity at least once a year to break out those Centennial uniforms with the Flying Worm on the helmets.

What do you know of our next opponent (Florida Gators)?
Monkeypox replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
They got their nickname from their famous player, "Florida" Joe Gatorse. -
Build a Mean Joe Greene statue outside of Apogee Stadium
Monkeypox replied to Skipper's topic in Mean Green Football
They didn't pull the nickname. The defense he was a part of inspired the nickname for the defense (and then team). He wasn't referred to as "Mean Joe Greene" until after he was drafted. He was mostly referred to as "Big Joe" when he was here. I could say he helped inspire the nickname by his play, but, in all likelihood, we would have gotten the "Mean Green" nickname even if his name had been Joe Schriebfellerhausen. I agree they should have a statue, though. -
Yeah I always think it looks like one of the generic clip art logo options sports games give you for created teams.

49-17 Florida. Something like that. I think it will look a lot like LSU vs us or us vs Bethune-Cookman. They won't need to throw the ball a ton, and once they get up on us they'll just be content grinding away on the ground. We might get a garbage time score or two to put us in the 20s. 49-17 Florida. How many road games will UNT win in 2016?

Florida will be wearing their brown pants, I hear. -
MGB: Five thoughts following UNT's win over Bethune-Cookman
Monkeypox replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I remember when Hall came into one of his first games and promptly tossed a pass about 7 yards over a receiver's head. I turned to a buddy and said "I haven't seen anybody overthrow a receiver here since my Freshman year" (Mitch Maher's last year). He had much better wheels early on, but the knee injury in 2001 sapped some of that. -
Someone needs to change their screen name to "Foner"

Some accuracy issues, but he looks like a good leader and he's athletic. He seemed to make the right decision, but the throws were off a bit. He did have some good and bad plays erased by penalties. Some drops. Honestly, it's really hard to evaluate our QBs right now, because the pocket seems to always be at/near collapse. He made some great plays, but you could see him lose the lanes at times if he had to step up in the pocket. If he has to step up, he's best off tucking and running. Also, idk what the deal was with our WR. They were blanketed all night, no matter who was in. Idk if it was a timing problem or a get-off issue. In a few instances, it was a penalty issue. Passing game as a whole was off. But Fine looked better than Morris, and it wasn't close. He's going to have some growing pains.

Man, I like this kid.

Turnout didn't look good to me, but that's about what I expected. I had two back out on me after we got handled by SMU. People want to see good football. It's not a 1-11 season, though. It's a decades-long span of irrelevance.

Official Bethune Cookman UNT GMG Game Thread
Monkeypox replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd actually like to see us try something other than a fade. By my count, in 7 goal-to-go passing downs, we threw 362 fade passes. Butane-Cookman knew exactly what was happening. Seriously, if the fade is one of Morris' best pass types, I'm scared of the ones he's bad at.
