  1. I think it sounded more doubtful about Mason playing at all. If they were going to work him in some special package, it would most likely be as a runner, which I don't think you do with a banged up QB.
  2. Yep. Littrell made it clear the reason Mason wasn't going to start was because he was still too sore/injured to practice. So they're going with the backup.
  3. This has been the new thing the last few years. Good news is, it's not cheating. Bad news is, even if we were allowed to spend the same money as an A&M, we don't have it. http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/texas-am-aggies-paid-nearly-60-grand-top-nfl-prospect-cedric-ogbuehi-071614
  4. It was a big factor. He still had 20 TFL his senior year, but he wasn't the same player. He had 24 TFL his junior year. That was #3 in the country. And he could play point guard.
  5. Absolutely. And Booger was an example of a guy who was "too short", but still highly rated and regarded back in those days. If he had been 6'2", he would've been playing at Arkansas like his brother. And I'm not sure he'd end up here today, TBH, because of the ever-increasing attention the internet gets recruits, and the greater field of competition. The "stealth recruiting" days are over. That strategy might have worked when kids and their coaches and their friends weren't tweeting 24/7, but it's dead now. Booger was the DMN Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-State, First Team All-District for 3 consecutive years, and a DMN Top 100 coming out of high school. He had 44 TFL in his final 2 years at UNT, with his senior year played on a bum knee.

  7. Well, let's see: UNT vs Charlie Strong: 0-1, 38-7 UNT vs Les Miles: 0-3, 56-3, 41-3, 41-14 I don't think there's anything for us to say to them. Probably has nothing to do with the talent levels at LSU or UT for those game, which are, of course, completely divorced from recruiting rankings, which are meaningless according to people on this board.
  8. I don't really want to wait or ignore recruiting failures like we did with Mac. He was also 5-7 in his first year. So far, we're looking at another class in the bottom half of CUSA. Sure, it could change, but we're never going to be any better than we have been unless we start recruiting better. That's a fact. Sure, we had another good recruiting class that took us to a single bowl game. And then we returned to the laughing-stock that we've been. Never have I seen a fanbase so excited that we've had a couple of recruiting classes in 20+years outperform their ranking. You can't discount the 80% of the time we've been irrelevant in order to say our "strategy" is successful. For 20 years, people on this board have excused our recruiting performance by explaining how star ratings are made up and they don't matter and Drew Brees blah blah blah... And we've sucked consistently for that time. Meanwhile, the teams that consistently recruit better than us win more than us. It's almost like these things are related.
  9. Coach speak. When you're forced to go with the backup QB, you don't want to make it seem like you don't have confidence in that guy. So I think it's pretty obvious that Fine is still banged up., which was a lot of people's concerns with Fine before the season. At this point, they've really got to be getting ready for the bowl, and you need to maximize reps for the starter. Good luck, Alec!
  10. Most top 2018 recruits have multiple offers now, and have rankings at 247 and Rivals. There's only a dozen or so 5 star recruits in the whole country. http://247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/RecruitRankings?InstitutionGroup=highschool&State=TX https://n.rivals.com/news/class-of-2018-rivals100-seven-new-five-stars-movement-in-top-10
  11. And with those two additions, what was our final recruiting ranking in CUSA last year? Is that where we want to be this year?
  12. I agree with most everyone here about: Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Allen. My Homer picks would be: Euless Trinity, Coppell
  13. Well, my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Goree participating in an unsanctioned street fight with a robot last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
  14. So if we throw 7-10 in this game, we'll be right there!
  15. Fine. I was an early defender of Morris, but you can't blame WR and OL for all his picks and poor completion percentage this year unless you want to for Mason as well. One of them is a 6'3, 230lb 5th year senior who came from the best program in college football. The other is a 5'10, 170lb freshman from Locust Grove, OK. One of them SHOULD be head and shoulders above the other. But he isn't. And because he isn't, there's no reason (barring health) he should get the start. Now, that doesn't mean that Mason did an amazing enough job to be the guy going forward into perpetuity. I expect a QB competition every off season. But he did better than I would have expected, given that I was one who thought he needed a redshirt year. Morris was far more disappointing, IMO. Neither was great. I expect the coaches to put in the QB they think gives them the best chance to win. They have the most informed opinion, anyway.
  16. Our bowl game presence isn't going to move the needle for casual football fans one way or another. Take it for the practice. They clearly need it.
  17. Rich get richer. That one will last forever.
  18. Olawale came to us out of El Camino College in Southern California, so he was only here for two years - Dodge's last year, and Mac's first year. Both used him sparingly.
  19. I generally can't stand them either. I once asked my wife if she could identify Oregon's school colors. BUT, since they use like 432 uniforms a year, they usually manage to work in one that I like. But that's just personal opinion (though I also have a design degree from UNT, so that's one aspect of it). In my perfect world, we'd be UT or Alabama or someone who's (basically) had the same classic uniform forever and everyone recognizes it... but we've never been that, so I can keep dreaming or wake up to reality. Kids love all the swag. Give 'em swag. I really only ask that we keep finding ways to incorporate the Flying Worm into some of our alternates. That logo pre-dates me by 20 years, but I can't get enough of it.
  20. Historically, I've expressed distaste at the constant rotation of questionable uniform design that parades through college football every year. But I've come to realize that 1) I'm already committed to the university and 2) this matters to the recruits and the players. So bring 'em on. If it brings in recruits and keeps the students happy then I wanna make Oregon look like the model of restraint in uniform design. Laser lights, holographic prints, green/silver/black/pink/camo uniforms with articulating eagle wings? Cool.
  21. I just came to join the pile on of Pollo Tropical. The one in Lewisville/The Colony was probably the worst place I've ever eaten. Cold meat, slimy/mushy sides, dirty, rude staff. I went there twice, giving it a second chance because I thought maybe it was just a bad day.... nope. Even worse the 2nd time. I'll settle for closing, but the earth should open up and drag it into the fiery depths of hell. They don't even need to replace it with Cabana. They could replace it with the dumpsters from BEHIND Cabana and still come out an improvement.
  22. Way to spoil my next thread while I was still in the writing room collecting the best ones.
  23. I'm changing my vote to whatever the most is. Like eleventy jillion.
