Director of Development Position - Athletics
Monkeypox replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm out. I only secure donations through thinly veiled threats. Dunno about all this "cultivating" stuff. -
Yeah, but are they a UTEP?

All-time best UNT FB player you ever witnessed

Booger, Dunbar. I remember remarking after one of Dunbar's first plays as a freshman that he had NFL talent. It shows up, because we so rarely have it. -
MGB: Five burning questions heading into offseason
Monkeypox replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Recruiting ratings services, which, contrary to beliefs that exist only on this board, directly reflect the coaching evaluations from every single NCAA football program in the country. See, coaches don't hand out scholarships arbitrarily. Their jobs, many of which are 7-figure type jobs, rely on them doing it well. Players that are offered a ton of scholarships to successful programs have demonstrated skills that those programs all seem to agree are worthwhile. No, they aren't always correct. But they're correct at a higher percentage than people on an internet message board. That's what's funny about this argument. Recruiting rankings ARE coaching evaluations. Sure, some players are better fits for certain programs, but I guarantee you Littrell and Ekeler aren't running some unique brand of football out there. They're clearly going to have to coach players up for their system at this point, because the recruiting isn't any better, and our high water mark is winning the HOD Bowl. -
But being lost in all this is the real question: Is he or is he not The Next Seneca Wallace?

Whether or not we have the QB we need on the roster remains to be seen. However, we can't recruit 15 QBs every year.

MGB: UNT lands top-rated JUCO wide receiver
Monkeypox replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Awkwardly holding a knife to catch the light for an insert shot is like #3 on most important rumble skills. -
Someone needs to start a thread on returning starters. I'd do it, but, you know... the lazy. I'd like to see who we have coming back from that game, and maybe even an analysis of incoming players or redshirt guys to compete at the positions.

I think Murray is a guy who needed a lot of development, especially coming into a new offense. If we can get the fundamentals out of that frame... Look out. He definitely struggled a lot less as the season went on. I look forward to seeing what he becomes in the next year.

Group of 5 officials considering playoff for non-Power 5 teams
Monkeypox replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
There hasn't been a comment to consistently succeed at our current level either. We've been bottom of the barrel at most everything for 20 years. I can't get on board with anything that's a move back, though. I think we actually want to increase relevance. The only thing we'd be preserving now is irrelevance. Yes, I'd LOVE a scenario where conference champs and a couple of wild cards made it to the playoffs. But there's no compelling reason for P5 schools to vote for that, beyond, as UNT90 has pointed out, a lawsuit. In the meantime, try and make the program relevant enough that our opinions matter outside of this particular echo chamber. -

That's the exact proposal put forth in this thread. -
Group of 5 officials considering playoff for non-Power 5 teams
Monkeypox replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
And that's why they're not going to go for it. Any expansion that doesn't help the P5 isn't going to be voted on by the P5. The fact remains that, while it generally doesn't happen, it DOES happen that the #2 teams in conferences like the Big Ten and SEC make the playoff. In any expansion scenario, they're not giving the MAC or even a weaker P5 conference a seat at the table. -

They would be if it expanded beyond 4 teams. "Dear Penn State, Michigan, OU, Wisconsin, etc. We've decided to expand the playoffs to 6 teams. The two teams we're adding are Western Michigan and Temple. But congrats on a great year!" -
Bowl Season over now onto Recruiting Season
Monkeypox replied to BTG_Fan1's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Yeah, they'll go after who's a threat first. Usually, you get to be a threat by breaking the same rules the big boys do. -

MGB: Five thoughts on UNT's loss to Army
Monkeypox replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, it's probably wrong, but it seems like we did better getting 3rd and long than we did 3rd and short. On the defense, I feel a lot of the problems were with discipline. Watching some of the replays, guys ignored their containment responsibilities trying to make a big defensive play, and they got punished. -
Stupid fan sends Alec Morris a death threat
Monkeypox replied to GMG24's topic in Mean Green Football
Seriously. Morris played VERY well. Between his bowl performance and the coaches' reports the last few weeks, I've often wondered what he would have looked like if he'd left Alabama earlier. I mean, he couldn't have come here, because McCarney, but still. I wonder if he was just a guy who needed a lot of development coming out of high school, and kept getting passed by guys who didn't. Regardless, he played an outstanding final game for us. -
Penalties Penalties Penalties.
-
Yeah my feed died.
-
We ain't dead yet! There's 1. Just 6 more TOs and we can put this one away.
-
That sequence was murder. 1st and 10 in the red zone. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Interception. Big TD run.
-
Dangit. Penalties like that will kill you.
-
I know 2 more that would've been there, possibly up to 6. I had no option to be out of my office today.
-
Yeah, we just need to get up on them... right now, all momentum has swung in our favor.
-
Holy crap. Morris is getting it done.
