  1. My #1 choice will always be the biggest bowl with the best opponent.
  2. The chant was awesome last night. At one point, we were simultaneously speculating if it would ever end while actively trying to prevent it from ending.
  3. 4 TDs tonight puts him in 5th place for single season.
  4. This was one of the more engaged crowds I've seen in a long time.
  5. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. A 40-point win on two of five passing. I watched the Mean Green don black in the dark near Gate 3. All those moments will be lost in time, like urine down a men's room wall. Time to die.
  6. @realjerryjones Ezekiel Elliott might not be able to play Sunday. You should sign a couple more running backs.
  7. Most of the time, however, the reason it's quoted is because someone much younger has come on to question or belittle that support, or brag about all they've done in the short couple of years they HAVE been around. In my mind, it's not fair to assume that someone's youth is the problem, though, because youth is no excuse for idiocy. Yep. That's the difference. And regardless of how long someone's been around, I'd expect them to recognize and know the difference.
  8. I don't think Morris will really want to stay in Dallas to play in front of 14 fans. Yeah, SMU can outspend, but I don't know if they can outspend ENOUGH to keep Morris from the P5 opportunities.
  9. USF, Troy, CSU, TCU, Arizona, Air Force, Memphis, ULL, Baylor, La Tech, Southern Miss, Akron, etc. DD had plenty of opportunities against middle-of-the-road programs and bottom feeder P5s. This idea that all we did was play top 10 programs outside of the SBC is simply selective memory. I didn't get pissed when we laid an egg vs UT and OU and Alabama. I got pissed when we did it vs these teams. And plenty of the rest of us did at the time. If it was all skill, and not the level of competition, then he simply wouldn't have performed as poorly OOC as he did. If you want to argue that "Nobody has done it", because you're specifically fixated on a number (27-0) enough to say that 44-7 isn't the same or 24-4 isn't the same or any amount of dominance over time that plenty of coaches have accomplished (only to move the goalposts about why those don't count), then you need to at least make sure your number is correct. If someone went 50-1, with a loss in the middle, you'd say "yeah, but they never went 26-0." That's what's ridiculous.
  10. It was both. If what you said were the case alone, he would have won more out of conference during that span. If you're making an argument that a particular number matters, but you don't know that number, it certainly hurts the foundation of your argument. Arky State's record in that particular conference certainly relates as it compares to DD's.
  11. Man, I've been fighting my desire to comment because I don't want to aid in the disruption of a recruiting thread, but.... I bet they follow him around like a wagon train.
  12. Out of that list, I think they'd tap Morris before the rest, if only because of the level that they're at just above us that I think makes it an easier sell. But my guess is there's more/bigger on their list. I think Kingsbury makes about $3.5m a year right now, with built-in raises, so Tech clearly has the cash to money whip some guys. Riley was their dream coach (and makes similar money at OU), but obviously that went out with the events of this year. They ARE the one program that scares me a little bit for coach-poaching, because they know and appreciate the staff here. I just don't know if they can sell our guys after two years, despite the relationship to their program. I mean, when we win out and win the C-USA Championship and the Independence Bowl... I might have to change my view, though. I also agree, though, that the big money boosters there will probably also set their sites ridiculously high.
  13. Dickey didn't win 27. He won 26 in a row. Went 29-11 against the Sun Belt, overall. Arkansas State is 44-7 against the Belt in recent years. If our own fans don't remember, then I think that says something about its lasting impact on the greater college football landscape.
  14. Thankfully, I was able to find plenty of fun peer groups at UNT. I hung out with everything from complete burners to serious grad students. There was an odd transition year there, where I still had friends that were seniors in TAMS, but had to kind of be careful with interactions or hanging out there too much. Honestly, though, most of that sounds like the same difficulty students would have had at any of the other universities. I honestly don't think it's that they stayed at UNT that they became social outcasts. The transition is hard no matter where you go. I think it gets somewhat mitigated by the fact that when those kids are going to UT and A&M from TAMS, they have a pocket of friends from TAMS that they go with. Up until the last minute, I was going to go to A&M. I had a pre-lease on a duplex with two other TAMS friends. But again, if there were more students staying at UNT, then I think that becomes part of that process as well. That's always been one of the subjects brought up by guidance counselors and teachers when trying to convince you NOT to go to TAMS - the transition from TAMS to "regular" college. I don't think going to UNT vs going to UT or A&M makes that transition any harder. A lot of it just depends on how independent you are.
  15. Mason has thrown 18 TDs and 9 INTs this season. I believe that's the most TDs anyone's thrown here since Mitch Maher threw 26 in 1994. I don't know where that ranks him, but it's out of the top 5, all of which is owned by Maher and Steve Ramsey. He is theoretically on pace to throw for 24, which would tie him at #2 with Ramsey and Maher. Also, he has 2599 yards this season, putting him 6th for a single season at UNT. He's currently on pace to throw for 3465 yards (in 12 games). Single season record is Maher's 3103, also in 1994. For total career passing yards, he has 4171. This puts him at #7, behind Giovanni Vizza, who finished with 5146.
  16. Maybe they don't equal 27-1 or 27 straight victories, but Dickey's didn't either. It's such an amazing accomplishment that multiple people in this thread haven't even gotten the number right. But the point is.... beating up on the Sun Belt isn't amazing, especially if you can't win any other games. People act like it's some great accomplishment, but it's really just a statistical anomaly. Also, as has been pointed out, the Belt didn't have a lot of teams with winning records back then. These days, they do. So I'm actually more impressed with Arkansas State at this point. Perhaps the reason their budget has grown is that they've managed to have SUSTAINED success, something that eluded DD, as he finished going 4-10 against the Belt, for an overall 29-11. Arky State has gone 44-7 against the Belt since 2011. I started out thinking DD was properly regarded, but now I'm starting to think he's pretty firmly in the overrated category. I know this board has a weird fascination for ex's, but I don't think in sports history I've ever seen a coach with a worse record so lauded by a fan base.
  17. I don't hate Dickey. I just don't believe he was a very good football coach. Of all the coaches here since I started school (1994), he has the 2nd worst win percentage. Only Todd Dodge was worse. The previous two years, Simon's teams went 9-13 (5-5 vs Big West). DD went 8-33 in the following 3 years (5-11 vs Big West). Simon beat Texas Tech 30-27 in Lubbock in 1997. Dickey lost to them at home 30-0 in 1998. So it's not really a question of "when he got here." It's a "when the Sun Belt* was formed." From 2006-2010, Blakeney (Troy) went 32-5 vs the Belt. Since taking over 4 seasons ago, Blake Anderson is 24-4 against the Belt at Arkansas State (including 19 of their last 20). *for football
  18. Only when you asked for a subjective response by asking me whose "accomplishments" I valued more. I posted about winning percentage after you stated that replacement #2 wasn't better than Dickey. Of course, by the objective measure of WINNING GAMES, he actually was. That doesn't mean I'd put any Dan McCarney statues up, either.
  19. Whichever one we get for winning out including the C-USA Championship.
  20. 1-3 in Bowl games. .396 winning percentage. 13-53 outside of the Sun Belt.
  21. Which dog crap would you rather eat? Which terminal disease would you rather have? We've had 3 coaches with losing tenures at UNT. I don't feel the need so praise losing coaches at all. They didn't do the job and got fired. I just don't consider sub-40% winning percentages accomplishments.
