You seem to be the one getting mad and name calling. I'm not devaluing any players. I'm simply telling you what reality is. If Corbin had the value you think he does, someone would've offered him. And I'm basing it a lot on position value, not even the player himself. A senior WR just isn't that important as a transfer.
-
Corbin didn't get any P5 offers in the transfer portal, or he wouldn't still be at Houston. He'd have transferred like the others. No, we're not on your level or SMU's level just as Arkansas isn't on LSU's level. But Arkansas is a lot closer to LSU (they both matter) than you are to Arkansas (they matter, you don't). And we are a lot closer to you (neither matter) than you are to Arkansas. That's the reality, no matter how much you guys and SMU want to call yourselves P6. Fight over being the best-smelling dog turd all you want. It is what it is. Nobody cares.
-
Corbin would start at Baylor, etc. sure. But so would any number of other guys they recruit. Guys who struggle with P5 offenses transfer down and are replaced by younger guys. They had no need for Corbin, which is why he's still stuck at Houston. Miami gave up 51 sacks. They needed linemen. And yeah, they are in a serious downturn, and not among the P5 elite these days. But still better than Houston in opportunities. If they were a truly elite P5, they wouldn't have needed Houston transfers at all.
-
I know, it's like saying a guy could have gone to a P5 or something and chose to stay at Houston for his roommate. LOL. Delusion is strong at the G5 level.
-
Uhm, yeah, it did. But I'm guessing you don't know anything about Miami football, other than D'Eriq King goes there now. They needed serious help on the OL, and it's one of the hardest positions to fill. If you can get transfer OL especially, due to the years spent in college Strength and Training programs, all the better. WR are a dime a dozen. So really, it's not just Miami football you don't get. Positional scarcity is a real thing, and WR ain't it. And unless he's an absolute WORLD beater, P5s aren't gonna fall over themselves for a WR or RB. Again, those positions are much easier to recruit and fill. Everybody has 10 on their roster, and you can more easily rely on younger players to play them, unlike QB or OL (or DL, for that matter). These are facts. Also, him being under-recruited further diminishes your previous point that Corbin was a better get based on his offer lists. Was he under-recruited, or was he properly recruited and thus Corbin is better based on his offer list? Offer lists also don't mean a whole lot after a few years. Guys are looking at tape and what they're doing at the college level to determine their present value. As far as Guyton, he left to go play in the NFL. He also proves MY point, since he was recruited to Notre Dame and ended up transferring down. That was NFL level talent, clearly, and he played at UNT. But he FIRST went to Notre Dame. Again, skill positions are out there.

Jarrid Williams is an OL, one of the hardest position groups to fill and on one of Miami’s weakest position groups previously (possibly their worst). So he’s a little different than a skill position player. Most G5s can get quality at those (WR, RB) positions, and the P5s usually get so many that they transfer DOWN. Corbin is a real difference maker at the G5 level. But unlike QB, OL, DL, he’s simply not such that a big P5 is going to feel a need to come sniffing around for. And no, even though kids make dumb decisions, I’m not gonna believe they are going to get an offer from a big-time P5 and turn it down because their friend was staying at Houston or any other G5. “Yeah, I can get better coaching, more exposure, a chance at a FBS Championship, a better draft position to earn potentially millions of dollars, but I gotta stay here with my bro. Football and my future are important, sure, but college roommates are forever.”
-
That’s what YOU think. Maybe without Littrell’s trademark discipline, we would’ve committed like 30 penalties for 200 yards.
-
Yeah that game was a mess all around for SF, so I wouldn’t read too much into his production. He’s going to get touches coming up here, and hopefully the 49ers won’t keep losing bodies. There really wasn’t much of a way for them to adjust losing so many guys in one week.
-
SMU still has their entire starting OL and Buechele back from last year, plus a couple more transfer skill players. I think they’ll be about what they were last year. That doesn’t mean they are some amazing program. They just always have a couple of NFL caliber players who take us to the woodshed. But overall, yes, SMU is not that good and that means we ARE that bad. It’s not like they’re Texas or OU or Alabama. But for us they might as well be.

It will be a big waste of money to get rid of Seth just for some other coach to come in here and get their ass handed to them by SMU and Houston and have everyone yelling to fire them, too. After about 25 years, I was thankfully able to reconcile the fact that this is what we are and while it still pisses me off when I pay it too much mind, I’m nowhere near as angry after games like this anymore. I have no reason to expect different from this program. It’s a dog that’s bit me in the ass every time I went in the yard. I can’t keep walking in the gate and saying “this time, for sure...”. We are a bottom barrel Texas football school. Whenever people talk about how much more money and better facilities and stuff we have than we used to, they act like that’s not simply the price of admission to college football. Like UNT’s levels of support or expenditure in any way entitle them to something greater. What we have is the BARE MINIMUM. The time to rise in the college football landscape was 2000-2010, and we failed, often spectacularly, to make any real progress in that area. No matter what coach is here, we don’t ever beat good teams, we don’t regularly beat bad teams, and we only put players in the NFL as late-round picks and UDFA. People can do what they want with their money, their time, and their energy. I just don’t know why anybody would think a new hire will change anything.

You can run any defense you want, but if you can’t tackle...

To be fair to the coaching staff, all they had to go off of with our QBs was practice against our defense. They probably looked like Johnny Favre Montana.

If ever in our history we don’t know who our starting QB is, it’s not because we have multiple really good QBs. I mean, just go with the odds.

I guess we’ve been keeping social distancing for tackling drills. Receiver runs out of bounds on 3rd and 11 LOL. Just some dumb football being played out there- 327 replies

SMU has kicked the crap out of us both on the field and recruiting for as long as I’ve been around. I know that’s a sad fact, but it is what it is. Yeah, SMU isn’t very good. But they’ve consistently beaten us, including by 3 TDs last year with a senior Mason Fine. I don’t know what about this offseason made people think we were just going to magically get better. Maybe HBU, a school I only knew existed when we scheduled them, isn’t some giant killer. Maybe our defense still just sucks.- 327 replies

Nice catch by Guyton on a scramble drill.

49ers go for 4th and Goal at the 1 and fail because they were dumb and had Mostert in instead of Jeff.
-
Well, first time hearing his name is OPI. Hopefully, he picks it up.

Maybe SMU-Dallas is just a shitty satellite school for the well-respected flagship SMU Broncos.
-
It was just easier to put that than the Dallas SMU Dallas Mustangs of Dallas.
