Without them available, we are sorely lacking size on D. We need them to properly play this defense.

You took part in Team Aune vs Team Bean for weeks. You also opined and prescribed meaning to those stats you posted. And not all of the 3 pages worth of posts you wrote about Bean were based on statistics. Regardless, you are the people and the people is you. Why would it suddenly be “strange”?

The strangest part to me is seeing Team Aune's team captain take off his jersey and quit at half time, then walk up into the stands like he didn't have anything to do with what's happening on the field. You didn't seem to have a problem making some pretty declarative statements in an ENTIRE thread called Aune vs Bean. You didn't find it strange then? Did you not think any of the posts you've made in the last month or so was taking a side? Are you admitting you were rooting against Bean in your comments, or does that only apply to the "other side" of that debate? I mean, I don't have a dog in this fight, because I never thought anyone on this board had enough information to make a call based on what we'd seen so far from these two (and still don't). And given what the coach has said in not naming a starter, I'd hazard a guess that they've both been as inconsistent in practice as they had in games. I'll fully admit I have no idea which of these two QBs gives us the best chance to win. If the coaches don't know, I CERTAINLY don't. I don't begrudge people the debate. That's what sports message boards are all about. But, c'mon, man. You're a part of it. You're the "people" you're referring to.

The receptions and TDs are the crazy thing. Opponents KNOW they need to stop him and they just can’t.

‘21 DT Kevin Greene - Del City, OK [SIGNED LOI]
Monkeypox replied to 97and03's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Football Name checks out. Mean Joe "other" Kevin Greene was also a beast. -
Really need some size on this defense. I know some of that is Covid and some is injuries/losses from last year, but this defense looks like a 2-3-6 or a 3-1-7 to me.

All 127 FBS Teams Automatically Bowl Eligible This Year
Monkeypox replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
If we were to somehow win ANY number of games and get invited to a bowl, we should take it, not because we deserve it or that I'll watch it, but it's extra practice time and game time for our players... and we clearly need it. -
Moore left in 1980. He was referencing 1961 as his freshman year. Just for clarity.

Alabama was more successful when they ran a 3-4. In fact, there's a lot of discussion around their defensive decline in the last 3 years, coinciding with their move to a 4-3 from the 3-4 (which they ran for all of Saban's tenure through 2017). Clemson runs a 4-man front (4-3 with smaller hybrid players or 4-2-5 historically). Georgia runs a 3-4 base and a good bit of 3-3-5. But those teams can run whatever they want. They recruit NFL linemen, linebackers, and dbs. That said, the 3-3-5 (tite front) has replaced the 4-2-5 (the original "spread defense") for a number of schools, in part to combat the Spread RPOs and zone runs. RPOs were developed to attack the weak-side linebacker, make him choose between covering the B gap or dropping into coverage. When he makes that choice, he's always wrong. The idea of a tite front 3-3-5 is to force the action to the outsides by leaving no open B gaps. Force running backs and QBs to run East-West before they can turn upfield. And then you're using your speed at LB and DB to attack in space. The idea here being that your LB and DB are going to be better in space than a bunch of 300-lb linemen. However, you've got to have a good hybrid DE/OLB and a NT. And then, if your ends don't have enough power and leverage, they can get washed inside on run plays and pushed into each other like a reverse wedge. This isn't the end of the world if your linebackers can do their job in space. I mean it creates a big wash of bodies that is generally tough even for the RBs to get through. But UNT is suffering from BOTH issues on run plays. Even in the looks you WANT from our defense, our DEs are getting demolished and our LBs aren't reacting quickly enough or making plays in space. This can be seen in our defensive lowlights throughout the season. Currently, the defensive coordinator/scheme everyone is looking at is actually the 3-man front run by Iowa State DC Jon Heacock. San Diego State was one of the top defenses in the country last year... running a 3-3-5. The reason a lot of these coaches state for their defensive preference? They don't have access to top level recruits - specifically linemen and linebackers. You really want our linebackers (or, in this case, offensive freshmen playing out of position) matched up in coverage on opposing RBs and slot receivers? The point is, I don't think the front we have is the reason we aren't good on defense. The truth is if you want to have a good defense, you have to be flexible and your guys have to be well-coached and confident in their assignments.

While I was not a big fan of DD's time or record here at UNT, I would hire him back in a second if the timing were right. A lot of that, though, is based on his career SINCE he was our head coach. He's earned his way into his position now and is well-respected in the college ranks. As others have said, though... I doubt he would come back here.

Another big catch!

Gift is Covid. They didn't tell anyone because they wanted it to be a surprise. Did you go to any of the games and feel sick afterwards?

Aune’s 1st Start - Statistical Perspective
Monkeypox replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
Hall was a true freshman, and we were running a ground-and-pound offense (and in 2000, we still had a lot of option in it) when he came on board. We had a total of 209 pass attempts on the season, with Hall accounting for 154 of them (last year we had 454, 504 in 2018). I remember him coming in for the opener vs Baylor, and one of his first passes was an overthrow, and that's why I remember it. He was like a breath of fresh air. We've had athletes like that over the years, who, for one reason or another, seemed to have IT.... a lot of times historically for us it's at RB, but guys like Hall, Booger, Trice, Kassell also had it. I don't know that it's a fair comparison to make with Aune at this time, if only because of his directly following Mason here. And I think we're in a problem situation because our defense is so bad and undermanned that without a QB who has IT, I'm not sure we can win much of anything. I think if everything was solid, you could have someone bus-drive the offense to an above-average/winning season in our conference. We, unfortunately, aren't in that position. So, to me, Aune isn't a problem right now, I just don't know if he's a solution, either, and I'd prefer a world where he didn't absolutely HAVE to be. -
72-Yd TD!

Misread Covid Results Caused Cancellation by Georgia State
Monkeypox replied to MCMLXXX's topic in Mean Green Football
One year I got my bloodwork back and freaked out for about two minutes until I realized the person who keyed in the results at the lab checked "F" instead of "M". -
Yay Linemen!

Yeah, he's not given enough credit right now. He stood out (positively) quite a bit in the game. That dude is working out there.

Deion Sanders HC at Jackson State
Monkeypox replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Have they announced the Netflix Documentary/Reality Series yet? I'm assuming that's the main thing here. -
And yeah, Arkansas is terrible and lost to us. That's the point. Nobody's like "Houston is terrible" if y'all lose to us, because nobody even pays attention but Houston and UNT fans. As far as little brother syndrome, I'm not on the Houston board. Maybe you need to ask yourself why it is that Houston and SMU fans care so much about UNT.
