  1. We're going to have to get REALLY lucky on D and get turnovers to have a shot in this, because we aren't going to get stops otherwise.
  2. Yeah. I already wasn't going to have enough time to list all 100 of our rivals at 1%.
  3. Yep. A week of practice in front of NFL coaches, scouts, and media is WAY more valuable, not to mention the opportunity to work against that level of competition.
  4. Okay, let's go one-by-one to this series of straw men and logic faults: 1) Giving some people "another chance" and not others: Well, it depends. Briles was dirty at Stephenville, but unless you are from the area and/or knew someone who worked or played there at the time, it's not THAT well known. Don't know about Houston. He was dirty at Baylor and dirty at Mt Vernon. Despite all that, he's never shown remorse or admitted he's ever done anything wrong. So I'd say the first requirement of getting another chance would be admitting you've messed up and expressing remorse, so he fails the FIRST requirement, which would be required to show that you've learned the lesson to not continue being a POS. 2) The NCAA and "rules": I'm not aware that the NCAA has banned Briles from coaching, so as far as I know he's been eligible to apply for jobs and eligible to be hired. I also haven't seen anyone argue that individual universities should decide not to allow him to apply or declare him ineligible. However, each individual University/employer/company is allowed to make their hiring decisions based on their own criteria, as long as they do not interfere with federal laws and/or state laws. I do not believe that "guy who got canned for covering up and turning a blind eye to sexual assault within his football program" is a protected class. So I'm not really sure what you're arguing here with regards to rules. There aren't ANY rules that say a University HAS to consider a candidate for a job. I mean, there's no rule saying that I can't apply to be a FBS head coach, but I'm pretty sure nobody would/should consider me for that position.
  5. Why not? It's not like you afforded Bean the same. People have discussed Bean's turnover rate all season, which was actually BETTER than Aune's going into the UTEP game, and I never once saw you pop in to point out that Aune had a worse turnover rate in any of those threads.
  6. If Freeze gets plucked from Liberty, Briles might go there.
  7. When was the first "fact" presented in this thread? This thread wasn't about facts. It was people opining on a player's perceived attitude and then speculating on how the coaches perceived this and what they would do about it. I don't remember a thread created just to dog Aune. Because it would be dumb, just like this thread is. But if you want facts: Bean QBR/Rating this season: 67/150 Aune QBR/Rating this season: 46/148.4 Bean TDs: 17 Aune TDs: 15 Bean wins: 3/5* Aune wins: 1/4* * Based on who got the majority of reps in the game, not on who started, since we yanked everyone around. I gave Bean the loss vs UTSA even though both got a full half, because he started and was part of what put us in the hole to begin with. And that's not to say I'm a big believer in Jason Bean. Or Aune. Both guys had trouble completing passes this season, and that's with Darden turning a lot of garbage into gold. While our offense wasn't a problem this year statistically, I think that was mostly because of how bad defenses were on the whole of college football with the limited offseason and Covid problems. And I think we were absolutely bailed out by our OL and Darden. BUT, if I'm just using facts to tell me who's been a better QB, it's been Jason Bean for the course of the season. Now, if I'm the coaching staff, picking who gives me the best chance to win depends on if I think we can control the ground game or if we'll need to throw our way out of it. We have two VERY different QBs on the roster, and without Darden, that changes a lot of what we're able to do. We'll see what they decide, but I can guarantee you it will be based on who they think gives them the best chance to win the game, and not on the sideline attitude as perceived by some crusty old dude in the stands with their own agendas.
  8. I see you're back on a team again.
  9. Size and level of competition. The usual.
  10. I think we should just start onside-kicking after we score.
  11. Forgetting about any moral qualms, if we just focus on winning: I’m not really concerned with the public backlash with the initial hiring of Briles. I’m concerned with what happens when he gets in trouble here... ... unless people think we’re big and/or powerful enough to avoid punishment from the NCAA like Baylor did, and I haven’t seen anyone make that argument (nor would I buy it if they did). The NCAA would absolutely make an example of us, and I don’t think that would allow us to keep moving like Baylor was able to. Briles could move on, go back to high school, or whatever, because small towns in Texas would hire a mass murderer to coach their team if he won games. But we would be unlikely to see the kind of long-term gains people would expect. We’d end up sunk like SMU got sunk.
  12. Yeah, Chadwell committed serious infractions at his previous stop that they are just now coming out of suspension over, along with vacating those wins. He has an innovative offense and is a winning coach for his career, but depending on where he ends up (or stays), he’s either gonna have to keep moving or consistently win like he’s winning now to keep ahead of trouble. One of the reasons I’m against hiring a coach with these kind of issues is we aren’t a big enough school or have powerful enough alumni to keep the NCAA from bringing the hammer if improprieties happen. Briles was dirty at Stephenville, dirty at Baylor, and is dirty in Mt Vernon. He’s not suddenly going to clean it up here. We’ll see about Chadwell, I imagine, because they’re probably gonna come sniffing around CC since they’ve made noise. But he might once again be able to move on and leave the mess behind him.
  13. Every time I meet another UNT alumnus here in DFW, they’re surprised I follow the football team.
  14. As great of a job as Chadwell is doing this year, he's 17-16 overall at CC. I see him more of a candidate for a raise than someone I would want to sell to my bosses if I'm a P5... but stranger things have happened. He's also had some trouble at Charleston Southern that led to them having to vacate something like 20 wins, so it's a bit more complicated than his current record.
  15. Well, we didn't win WITH Mason in his senior year. That wasn't his fault, but I think it's fair to point out that we are one win away from last year's total, and that's with a crazy pandemic throwing everything out of whack. It's not like it's our offense that is sinking us (it's certainly a problem particularly for its lack of consistency). I'm concerned our offense gets worse next year without Darden's skills bailing us out. Now, if we could prove we could have even an average defense, that would be something else entirely.
  16. Yeah, not much left to say on this. Hope the ref suffers no long-term harm and the kid sees whatever punishment he receives as a wakeup call to get his act together (and get some real help).
  17. Okay, then..... First of all, I think we underestimate the number of completely subjective personal reasons why kids choose to go to the schools they do. If I had based my college decision purely on the numbers, I wouldn't have stayed/ended up at UNT, and I had less scholarship offers than many football players get. So boiling it down to objective football reasons. We don't win, we don't play on TV, we aren't popular in our own area/region, and we don't get players drafted. These are things that matter if you're going to school to play football. As others have pointed out, WINNING is the real thing. You win, and the other stuff comes. But you can't win for 1 or two seasons. If we had the record that La Tech had over the last 10(or better 30) years, we'd be a lot further along, because only AFTER that would our location and girls and coaches and everything else start to come into play. We're selling our program from BEHIND everyone but the bottom of the barrel FBS teams. Just on the success and draft front.... La Tech (since 2010): Overall record: 83-54. Been to 7 bowl games and won 6. Had 16 players drafted into the NFL. UNT (since 2010): Overall record: 56-77. Been to 4 bowl games and won 1. Had 0 players drafted into the NFL. This record actually looks BETTER by Dodge-ing most of the worst period in recent UNT football. Their WORST coaches in the last 30 years(Bicknell, Dooley) have .453 and .459 WP. Meanwhile, we have only had two coaches better than that in the same timeframe (Nelson in 1990 and Littrell currently). UTSA (since starting football in 2011) Overall record: 52-65. Been to 1 bowl and lost. Had 2 players drafted into the NFL Southern Miss went 16-17 straight years in CUSA without a losing season. This will be their 4th losing season since 1994.
  18. I don't think it's that hard to tell why recruits don't come here. Please don't make me go through the list.
  19. If I'm coaching against UNT and have anything less than a 4th and 5, I go for it. Don't care where it is on the field or when it is in the game or the score. There's no reason not to go for it against us.
  20. At the end of the first quarter, it was 14-7. They scored 35 points in half a football game.
  21. Defense finally does something good, and the offense is cooked.
  22. I remember when our Special Teams was good. Just kidding, I don't remember that.
  23. Story of that TD was penalties and missed tackles.
