If anything, I suspect it will get even crazier after Spring ball for everyone.

Marshall files lawsuit against C-USA
Monkeypox replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Federal courts have ruled this very thing multiple times. State Universities are a part of the state government and have sovereign immunity. UT-Austin uses it every 3 days or so. See it a BUNCH when it comes to patents and contract disputes. It's why Leach couldn't sue Texas Tech. -
Getting ugly. So it's really the 3 SBC schools vs the 5 schools who are stuck in CUSA. The SBC doesn't want to touch it at this point, not really wanting to be a party to the lawsuit(s). The AAC 6 are just counting down the days until they can bolt, aren't really involved in CUSA discussions, and aren't concerned about a media deal they're forfeiting $$$ rights to if they have to stick around longer than anticipated.

Brett does not project UNT to return to a bowl game in ‘22?
Monkeypox replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
I mean, it's a nice and clearly intentional click-bait thread title, but one should be able to see from the link that the author is Brett McMurphy and not Vito. Vito posts his stuff here directly, anyway. -
Yeah, you forgo two years of conference revenue even WITH 14 months of notice. So I'm guessing they want to make whatever deal it is (pay fees?) to get out. I mean, what's the point of sticking around and not getting paid by the conference (even though the conference pays you in beads, shiny rocks, and Arby's gift cards)? The Sun Belt defectors aren't having to wait on UT-OU like the rest of the world, so they absolutely SHOULD leave ASAP.

USM, ODU, Marshall getting an early start on the CUSA evacuation
Monkeypox replied to Arkstfan's topic in Mean Green Football
Meh. Doesn't really matter at this point, and it actually could help us in the long-run, since we're also leaving. Nothing that hasn't been done before, though. -
Would've been nice to have had a QB coach for a kid like this, but thankfully he still has 4 years to play. Just a very raw talent. I think the better bets for 2022 are the guys who've been on the field (and I say this as a guy who is pretty high on Drummond). Aune, Ruder, Earle, Head have all played to some extent, so I'd give them a leg up if I were just guessing today. Hell, we could still get another QB before next season. New transfers entering the portal every day, and you can bet there will be a fresh exodus after the Spring Games.

It needs more... something. When I look away, it takes me less than a minute to start seeing other things again.

I'm pretty sure they're transferring just like any other student, so you're subject to the individual schools' deadlines for paperwork, which is pretty late for most transfers, but that's really it. You generally have to have all the ducks in a row before the deadlines. For UNT this year that's: May 3 (first summer and full summer stuff), May 25 (later summer stuff), July 1 (late short session and Fall). So it MIGHT be worth keeping an eye on those dates, depending on when the individual athletes decide to transfer/enroll. The transfer "penalty" and Transfer Portal are the only things that apply specifically to athletes.
-
I just think people have no faith in the staff's handling of the QB position. My wife could bring home the nicest, fanciest, highest quality and most expensive meats, spices, and produce from the grocery store, but if she's letting me cook it....
-
Transfers are transfers. They aren't prospective student athletes and thus CAN'T sign NLI. The "free", one-time transfer rule is a release from the NLI penalty (sitting out a year) when they leave the initial institution for which they signed a NLI. You're just a transfer student, so until you are ENROLLED, you are free. I could be wrong on some of this, but that's the gist, I think.

Tonga Lolohea - Long Arm, Big Boy DL from Euless Trinity/Lamar.

LOL. A&M's had money for paying players since Fisher was slinging it at Samford. They didn't just start throwing that money in the garbage now that it can be out in the open.

"Now"? -
Sean Payton. I mean, not really, but it's about the same likelihood as him going to the Cowboys, and that crap is all OVER the place.

Practice squad jobs are still pretty good money ($9200 a week this past season). I pointed this out when Guyton left, and a bunch of people were ranting and raving about his big mistake. Seems to have worked out just fine for him. Torrey playing a single game at the end of the season wasn't going to do anything meaningful for his draft stock. He wasn't suddenly going to go from UDFA to a mid-round pick if he beat up on Miami (OH). Scouts got years of tape on the dude.

Had a VERY good team through 1993, the year before I enrolled. 22 straight winning seasons, I think. Team was disbanded in 1993-1994. We still had some of the (former?) scholarship players in school on the club team in the mid-90s.

Seth is here to stay we need to accept it
Monkeypox replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Football
Yep, programs are so scared of "missing out", the second you win, they're jumping to hire you. Scott Frost - one winning season (yes, I know, he went 13-0) Justin Fuente - Two winning seasons (26-23 overall record at Memphis... his WP for VT is better than at Memphis) Chad Morris - 14-22, one winning season (7-5) Matt Rhule - 2 winning seasons at Temple (28-23 overall record), 2 winning seasons at Baylor (19-20 overall record)... 10-21 with Carolina so far Seth Littrell - a hot name and interviewed at KSU at 23-17... he's 14-21 since. My point isn't that most of these guys didn't do a good job where they were ... it's just that nobody is waiting around for SUSTAINED success. Big programs (and the NFL) can afford to money-whip someone with potential in the hopes that it's their guy, even if they end up a total catastrophe. SL being hired away after a 9-win season in 2022 would be less surprising to me than winning 9 games in 2022. -
Yep. The question was asked, and I believe many said he needed to win out + win the bowl game (that was the #1 response, followed by "he should be fired no matter what"). So it came down to the bowl game, and it was really more of the same, except that we play Dickey-ball now so it wasn't a big blow out like before.
-
Yes. 5 to 8 days makes a lot of difference for people to make or alter plans and buy tickets. Do you think more time WOULDN’T result in more ticket sales? I’m just explaining how the timing of this game is different from our previous local bowl games (not counting opponents) and why I don’t believe it was ever going to sell out. If we do sell it out, I’ll be super jazzed that I was wrong.
-
And we had somewhere between 5-8 more days for both of those. This is the latest invite and earliest game of the 3 examples. If this game were on the Mon-Tues after Christmas, I think the timing and the extra days would both help a lot, regardless of the daytime slot. But the day game, on a bad day, with short notice, isn’t gonna sell out, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone.
-
I know I'm going to make people here pretty angry, but UTSA-SDSU absolutely SHOULD outdraw our bowl game. They are 12-1, CUSA champs, facing an 11-2 SDSU team, and their game is in the evening. Yeah, they have to travel to Frisco, but that's it. They game has no reason not to sell out. Everything about that game is a bigger draw. Also, we know UTSA fans don't have to worry about their jobs, so it makes little difference when the game is as long as they can siphon enough gas from their neighbors to make the trip.
