Now Trammell resigns. I would bet she is the new asst bb coach at NT. Seems to be a top notch coach based on her record. Trammell resigns as Ryan girls coach Athletic director to choose between Denton, Ryan assistants as replacement 08/13/2002 By Chuck Cox / Staff Writer Ryan girls head basketball coach Latricia Trammell resigned last Wednesday following a very successful three-year stint as head coach of the Lady Raiders that included three consecutive trips to the post-season, the program?s first playoff victory and its first trip to the regional finals. Latricia Trammell Trammell, the all-time winningest coach at Ryan with a 64-33 record, led the Lady Raiders to District 9-4A titles the last two seasons. Trammell did not return repeated phone calls requesting comment. Trammell?s replacement will be either Ryan assistant coach Janelle Dreiling or Denton assistant coach Monesha Allen, according to DISD athletic director Ken Purcell. He also said the district hopes to have a decision made by Wednesday. Dreiling came to Ryan in the off-season after serving as head coach at district rival Frisco. She decided to become an assistant coach to spend more time with her family and has requested that if she takes the head-coaching job she does so as an interim. Allen has been a coach in the district for several years. Trammell is a leading candidate for the assistant job at North Texas recently vacated by Scott Stoehr, who is leaving for a similar position at Florida State. "She?s a person I?ve always highly regarded," UNT coach Tina Slinker said, "and she?s being strongly considered for the position." "I?m tickled to death for her," Purcell said of Trammell. "I hired her three years ago and she?s done a great job for us, but I told her the other day her timing is terrible. "We?ve had two or three top-notch coaches call us about the job, but they couldn?t take the job because their current districts wouldn?t let them out of their contracts. Within 45 days of the beginning of school, school boards aren?t required to release coaches from their contracts." Purcell said if coaches leave without permission of the school board to take another job in that time span they would have their teaching certificated revoked by the Texas Education Agency. "If there is a coach that says their board will let them out of their contract, you?re kind of like, ?Whoa. What?s going on here?" Purcell said. "It?s really a Catch-22." Purcell also said there were a couple of college coaches interested in the job but neither was certified to teach in Texas. Jim Hardin coached the Ryan girls for the program?s first four years of existence. He was 53-67 and led Ryan to its first playoff berth in 1997-98. CHUCK COX can be reached at 940-381-9587.
