We have played Chattanooga before in the last game Odus Mitchell coached in 1967. We scored the same number of points as the years he had been coaching. Also Chris Sanders of Flower Mound Marcus set a 1-AA passing record for the moccasins after transferring from SMU.

Me too IF we WIN against SMU w/o that WIN the season is a TOTAL loss no matter what we do otherwise. It has to be played like the MUST WIN game that it is!!!!!

Marshall Player Comment- "Team Youth"
DallasGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Excuses are like rear ends ---everybody's got one. Thank goodness for a coach with NO excuses and players that realize the production lies with them and what they brought to the table, not an ifs and buts approach to the game. -
A Night on Campus without Athletics.
DallasGreen replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Kudoos, Rick, well said. I couldn't help but notice last night how much fun the band was having with their performance. They blew the lid off the Pit to a standing ovation, all in all a great event for the EXES, thanks to all who attended. The one downer was that in spite of performances by all 3 Denton HS bands ( Guyer, Ryan, & DHS) there were woefully few parents there to support them. I could not help but think that if this had been 3 Lewisville, Carrollton-FB, or Plano school bands that the place would have been packed. Further evidence that Denton not only fails to support UNT, they don't even support their own high schools!!! -
Is it Dickey's offense or Ramon Flanigan's?
DallasGreen replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
Hire Todd Dodge and adopt the SL-C al la TT offense which is exciting to watch and lets you compete with more talented opponnets by quick short passes, wide line splits, and a check off to the run when everyone anticipates the quick throw. Also QB stays in shot gun and has a quick release. Recruits are schooled in the offense from day 1 as redshirts. QB's continually groomed to take over, i.e. Cody Hodges( 5th year senior just now a starter but takes up easily where others before him left off). Dodge would like to stay in the area since his son is only a soph @ SL-C, but would likely consider as he was an assistant earlier under Dennis Parker. He could be hired as OC with the understanding that he would get utmost consideration for HC should DD depart for any reason. Theory is great but DD/ BR would KO the idea in a New York minute. Many OCs in major programs such as Chuck Long @ OU would consider a HC offer for the salary we pay DD. Even take a shot at a young coach such as Major Applewhite as OC with the same deal you offer to Dodge. There are creative things that can be done but the salary increases and buy out clause to reward proving we were the " best of the worst" for 4 years has handcuffed the program unless a private buy out campaign can be mounted.I'll pony up the first 1K to get it started but we need 200 to match it. I thoroughly agree that this has been a 2 1/2 year demise, but we are now hitting rock bottom with no upturn in sight for the future, waiting longer to make a move only exacerbates an already serious problem. We are an AD away from being below where we were when we rose back to 1-A. Keep the faith? With Dr. Pohl leaving the ONLY faith I have in anyone is RV. In RV we trust!!!!! -
Dropped 9 spots in Sagarin...but I really don't

Dropped 9 spots in Sagarin...but I really don't
DallasGreen replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Kinda shows just how far we have dropped as we are now back to below where we were in 1994 when we made the jump back to D-1 ---more scholarships, better facilities, and higher coaches' salaries have produced a team that would finish fourth or fifth in the Southland. -
La Tech 49 UNT 6
-
Tickets for Texas Tech this weekend in Austin are $75. face and scalping for $200-$400. Do the math with 83K in attendance and see what a top BCS generates. Now I ask-- why when you can generate that or similar would you ever want to come to Denton regardless of the stadium situation? The ONLY shot we've got is playing these people in a high profile venue. It doesn't take a genius to see that when our largest crowd saw the A & M game @ TEXAS STADIUM.

How about by the end of the first quarter just to hold it under 100?
-
Congrats ULM!!! Wait till they see what shows up for the UNT H/C against ULM before bashing you. Our A.D. has worked magic this year with drawing our first two crowds with the pitiful product we have offerred. Magic stops with the 3 frigid Nov. games two of which are at night to please the old geisers of Denton who won't even show up anyway. Again Congrats on a good win, I still remember back in the SLC when we were competitive with you. Hell we are not even competitive with the SLC now after a decade in D-1!!!!

If Vince Young returns in 2006, which I feel he will, that first game will be absolutely disastorous !!! We may Never recover from the ass whipping we take when this bunch checks it in the first quarter. I'm to the point now that if takes triple digit losses to get some heads out of the sand then let it happen. I'm sure LSU and UT will be glad to show us how miserably LOW this program has sunk!!! ANSWERS NOW__ NO MORE B.S. EXCUSES!!! I want to see that so called "open microphone" on Monday night if it ever has existed.

Excuses are like rear ends-- everybody's got one. You don't have to be a younger fan to realize that there are some SEVERE problems with this football program that if not addressed immediately threaten its very existance. IMHO we are in the most precarious position since the return to D-1A. Right now we are a mid range 1-AA masquerading as D-1 as is the rest of the SBC. You "just build it" boys go on with your fantasies, I for one want to see action taken to right this ship not now but yesterday. Apathy has always been a failing program's best friend and it's beginning to again rear its ugly head once more at NT. I don't want to wait for LSU to ring up a triple digit margin this year or UT match its 0-92 in one game not two in ' 06 so that we are then embarrassed further by SMU the next week. DEMAND ANSWERS AND ACTION NOW__ I MEAN TODAY__ ASK RV, ASK BOBBY RAY, ASK LEE JACKSON-- we the loyal fans who have put $$$ and time into this program need answers as to its embarrassing, miserable failure in 2005!!!

Who do We beat the rest of the season?
DallasGreen replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Even mentioning this team in comparison to any BCS team is ludicrous. We've proven in the blow out losses to Tulsa and K-State that we are non-competitive even against average mid majors, and look at comparative scores around the SBC and you'll see that we are the worst of the lot against OOC competition. It's time to question where we are headed and can present leadership make us competitive. I see apathy as a bad coaches' best friend and apathy will again be the norm at NT sooner than later. -
The key word in your post was " another" total bust. I'm beginning to believe that this staff is not that great a judge of talent and that we've just been fed hype on at least the last two recruiting classes. I'm tired of being told how " young" this team is since on the O line only the center is a freshman and on the D line Chris Miller has been here for five years, Chapman played a lot last year, and the LB corps are veterans. It's not lack of experience but lack of size, speed, and competitiveness that is killing this team and propelling the program back to where it was five years ago, if not much worse.

Anyone ever seen that live microphone?

Early Line From Howell This Week's Games
DallasGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Down from a 3 point opening line to 1 point per this morning's DMN. Should be pick em by game time. We proved last year that we can lose to provisional 1-A teams ( ask FAU). -
Check out NT's Seagrin rating --1 point above FIU and would rank # 5 in the Southland. Nothing to be proud of from this season. It's becoming more obvious that SMU knew just what they were doing in restarting that series for 2006. That's the loss that will be really hard to stomach, but we'll again be told " it's only another ho-hum OOC game" as the DFW media buries us for good.
-
As bad as this year has been and promises to finish as same, 2006 bodes to be much worse. Just imagine this team in thebopener. The 'Horns will have Vince Young as an experienced SR. QB, Selwyn Young as a SR. RB, and a stud soph. in Charles at RB plus a solid defense. NT may never make a first down let alone score. Hmmm let's se if Tula can put up 54 and DD is 0-92 in two trips to Austin it's not inconceivable that UT hits that 92 in one game. Don't think so? Watch what LSU does on 10/29 in Baton Rouge.
-
This is the same coaching staff that inserted Richard (one win) Bridges in place of all state offensive player of the year Spencer Stack. Glad you have so much respect for their decisions, nothing in the entire DD regime would make me feel the same.
-
Note the reply "we" ( Jackson and BOR). It's evident who now runs the show at UNT. Look for more resignations or at least resign or be fired ultimatums. I predict every Pohl hire including RV is now in jeopardy. UNT is in the midst of taking a GIANT step backwards with more and more $$$ and emphasis thrown the way of a miserably failing Dallas campus.

Supporting the Longhorns and other $ schools
DallasGreen replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
In 1976 North Texas had a total athletic budget of $900K. The only reason we got the game was DKR's relationship with Coach Fry and the fact that Dr. Lorainne Rogers ( a North Texas Alum) was then President of UT. DKR did give us 1/2 the gate saying if we were good enough to play we were good enough to share the gate. This was an Earl Campbell led team and it was more Campbell that beat us than anyone else. I have never ever seen an NT team play with as much heart as that team did. It was one of the most brilliant game plans and coaching jobs I have ever seen. The Fry coached teams never heard of "body bag" games. They felt they were in the game against anyone. Instead of making excuses those coaches made game plans that fit their personnel. I do not dislike our present staff, but once you have seen what can happen when a team is truly motivated to win you can't appreciate the lack of comparison. Honor Coach Fry tonight. He is truly what college football is all about. I feel blessed to have witnessed his time here as well as coach Blakeley. I keep hoping the magic they provided will again return. So far no one else has even come close. -
Also heard that Guy Morris was NOT satisfied with a moral victory " playing close is like taking a shower with your sister"--- that's the attitude it takes to WIN. Remember each loss gets easier for a team with no pride and NT has pulled two big time stinkers in a row!!
-
This is the only team that continues to each week provide embarrassements that drive its fans away in droves. Most teams seasons haven't ended by the end of Sept.

I'm ready for some Mean Green Football!
DallasGreen replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks A. V. I hope the slackard students and Denton nesters read this and see the sacrifices others make when they have everything so easy and right in their own backyard but still manage to find excuses not to show. It will cost my firm some $700 for me to miss work to be there but I'm not letting that be an excuse not to go and also bring Coach Bill Blakeley for a reunion with his old A D Hayden Fry.
