Our last best hopes for wins are these last two home games to salvage anything from this season and hopefully escape the cellar of the bottom ten! We may be at the low point of North Texas athletics and I have been following for more than half a century. I hope to be able to again take pride in our program in my remaining lifetime if the BOR will make a REAL commitment to Athletics to boost our chances for Tier I status. We will never reach the endowment threshold required of $400 million without such a commitment

How about Houston Nutt before A-State picks him? -

I just learned today that he has passed away. No details

Hope they play more than three quarters. They were a no show in the fourth quarter at SMU! If they were tired it was cause 1) they were not in shape 2) SMUs offense was dragging them up and down the field for the whole fourth quarter. IMHO SMU was the most winnable of all our losses. We simply did not want it enough in the fourth quarter!

UNT opens as underdog to FCS Portland State

I really feel his signing day speech was a pure pity party. I was close to the podium, the viens were poping out on his neck, I was truly afraid that he was about to stroke out again. Yes there was a trembling voice and crocidile tears. The recruits had to be ashamed and embarrassed. I certainly was and the irony is that he was chastising his most loyal supporters and donors. As a friend of mine stated " he wants us to bring in MGC members and season ticket holders, what is the A.D. staff doing? Sorry but I have a day job that actually pays me". -
McCarney says UNT’s sticking with McNulty
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Hate to be picky but it was Nichols not McNeese We would have never beaten McNeese that badly; otherwise throughly agree with all 90 said. Mac is an egomaniac, maybe alcohol aided however. Have never witnessed anything like his rant at signing day ever from any UNT coach! -
Move back to Fouts would certainly reduce expenses and be reflective of our product on the field as well as the home competition we play. This is the message sent to the public so have the look of Division II

Many forget the heart that Coach Canales put into the team after the Dodge firing. I know he can produce offensive game plans that look nothing like we now run. When he was interim we had lost 25 players to injury yet he beat WKU and by Bill Snyder's own comment played Kansas State off it's feet in the Fouts Field finale. I know he will find great success elsewhere once freed of Coach Mac's shackles enhanced ego. God speed Coach Chico. I am truly sorry that no one had the vision to make you the head coach.

Here is the reality of our situation (long)
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I do agree that all other aspects of UNT are moving forward at a rapid pace. Record graduate school enrollment, largest freshman class ever, more degree types than ever before, and many other attributes including being the 25 th largest university in the nation. Athletics is NOT keeping pace, and the Prez understands. He just wants to be sure he has overwhelming alumni support before asking for the backing of the BOR to make changes to right the ship. We have made the necessary facility changes, now we need athletic leadership that has local ties to take advantage of our much improved situation. Commitment is more than just facilities . It is putting the right people in place to use those advantages. Look at the most successful coaches and A. D. s . All have TEXAS ties Patterson at TCU, Briles at Baylor, Sumlin at A$M, Kingsbury at TT. Now contrast that with Strong at UT or the coach of the month at KU. WE NEED THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR OWN FROM UNT WITH TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL RECRUITING TIES. This one fact allowed Chad Morris to kick our butts and to continue to do so for the rest of this series. Nobody in Texas gives a damn about how great it was at Iowa or Iowa State or that you won a national championship at Florida, they want to see you win over recruits in Texas and DFW in particular . -
Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Unlike those of you wet behind the ears I have been there done that many times. I will be here to see coaches and A. D. s come and go as well as presidents, BOR, and donors but the one constant is I'll still be here. Feel free to dismiss any history I might give you and make up your own take, but their is wisdom that comes only from experience. You will learn that as you mature or at least I hope you acquire the wisdom to learn from experience. Good luck on your " young" ideas. How have they worked out for you the last ten years?

How many people does a music concert draw? Check the records and you will find that The School of Music is actually a money loser for UNT. Being a music and education school is quickly losing ground to research, business, engineering, medicine, and law. These produce professionals who give back and that will change the ways UNT is thought of. The old J. C. Matthews days of being a teachers college are ancient history.

Someone above mentioned "snake oil salesman" with regard to RV. I would double that title when it comes to Mac. Same old tired excuses and same results despite incrdible hype that is filled with lies. Keep those e-mails coming to the Prez if you are to have any hope for change.
-
Better yet e-mail it to the Prez

You might also want to observe the number of people on the alumni side who traveled from outside the city of Denton. My guess is 3 to 1 from the outside, and yes they would have stayed sun or no. Do you really believe the students of ANY other D-1 program care if the sun is in their face. Hell breakout the shorts, sun glasses, and bikinis !!!!!
-
Can't answer for all high level donors, but the$1.3 million just donated shows somebody cares. I know the Prez cares. All those banking on support of students for Thurs. night game can kiss that good bye as most were gone by half time yesterday. I still feel until we have a competitive student athletic fee and a town that acts like a real college town we are at our ceiling. MAC & RV as well as Benford are just there to enjoy the cushy ride and stay under the radar. Has worked well big money and no accountability or expectations. Prez won't keep letting this continue. He is the one and only hope. He knows you can't be Tier 1 with the worst Athletics in FBS, and he wants Tier 1 very badly. Keep those e-mails coming to him . He is the only voice that can shatter the status quo!!!

A local Denton businessman just gave $1.2 million to athletics. It is amazing that people still believe. I do feel the administration now has a clue as to where athletics plays a major role. The true mystery to me is why the BOR fears the students. The alumni have nothing to be ashamed of as many have supported a really weak program for years with thousands of hard earned dollars. Many bad decisions have been made based on eternal hope. The decision to give a huge extension to McCarney is among the worst. I personally feel his credibility is gone both with the team and the fans. No one believes his ranting and outright lies anymore. Facilities, salaries, support, and administration support is better than it ever has been at UNT. It is frustrating that it still does not work, but I feel a younger coach with a hungry goal oriented staff can still pull it off. There has to be another Skip Holtz type out there!!

Don't take that to the bank, age and health issues don't make him a good hire for anyone. That and the fact that he has not evolved with the college game of today. SMU's offense was out there as long as our defense and they showed no signs of being tired and finished the game with ease. I just don't buy the "tired" excuse. Unmotivated and discouraged maybe but that is coaching.
-
For all the whinning about the QB play against SMU. I also feel the lack of defense and the "give up" attitude shown in the 4th quarter had a lot to do with an embarrassing game outcome before one of the best away crowds ever. I know I will be criticised that the defense was on the field too long, but that is going to happen against any hurry up offense. The SMU QB was very agile as will be the Rice QB. Will the defense again check it in? Just maybe they can get in shape to play an entire game and compete in the 4th quarter unlike the no show against SMU at the end.

I thoroughly agree with all accolades for Lance. IMHO he was the key to the entire comeback. However while watching I could not help but remember his last game at UNT against MTSU, and how he set an NCAA rushing and receiving record before 1,500 fans of whom only about 50 were students. To me this displays the football ignorance of the people we try to influence . I know the weather was bad and the record was bad, but if you are any kind of a football fan you show up to respect this kind of greatness.
