I would say that Corky Nelson ( the only NT coach who truly wanted to be here) and Matt Simon were both far above DD. We never had the kind of whippings that are now regularly administered, the players at least thought they could win going into any game, especially in Nelson's case he was a great ambassador for the program and would have never mocked or run down his fan base-- all this with NO administration and little AD support, few fans or scholarships. Any of these prior coaches would have done back flips to have the advantages heaped on DD. All I hear is accolades for going to a cheap, faultering little bowl as a reward for being the best of the worst !-A conference in America and being handed your head by CUSA's 4th place team. Not so great an accomplishment in my book. Give me a coach who can line it up against UT (0-92 in the DD era with the worst yet to come in 2006), beat SMU, beat TT, beat Rice, and you can have dozens of SBC wins and it still won't come close. Great recruiter? Take a look when our lines line up against ANY opponnent we are shorter, slower, and lack the strength to win in the trenches. We use the same weight program for EVERY position linemen to punters-- does that make any sense whatsoever? Our programs have seen much better performance on far less $$ than has been given to this regime--hopefully we can return but stubbornly sticking with what does not work will only delay that time further. The time to act was yesterday-- another year or two only exacerbates a now serious situation.

Cause he does know you will see it again next week, the week after, and more to come next year----- mediocrity breeds mediocrity just as success breeds success. Come to think of it my expectations are now so low mediocrity sounds like a phenomenal improvement!!!

See you in Pasadena my friend . I too look forward to seeing the USC defense which was less than stellar against ND and took several first halves off earlier this year, and what it does against a UT team that can strike quickly from anywhere on the field. In spite of UCLA's dismal showing against AZ I have a feeling that they will rise to the occasion to give SC all it wants in a finale and since the PAC Ten lacks the guts to schedule a conference title game SC can then read its press for a month beforehand. You have made your jealousy of the UT program obvious many, many times on this board always trying desparately to find someone to beat them. Personally I was born, raised, and will die a Texan. I am proud of Texas teams who are successful, TCU included. My alma mater is in an extremely tough time, but I will never resort to tearing down the successful programs of my home state just because UNT lacks the committment to do better. You bet I'm proud of UT. I aspire to have a team that could even be half as good. Hell all that any on this board ask is JUST TO BE COMPETITIVE__NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!! If your jelousy so inhibits you from supporting the successful programs of the state in which you live maybe you should consider Ohio or California as a new residence.

"NT will evaluate it's situation at QB"---that says it all about coaching ability. This staff has had going on two years to evaluate it's QB situation knowing that there would be a problem. Our team is not being put in a position to win by the coaching staff and that is all any coaching staff is capable of. UNT deserves better, our players deserve better, and our fans certainly have the right to say that they derserve better. DD instead of in past years being the best of the worst has lead us now to being the worst of the worst. We can not wait 2 or 3 years for this ship to right itself or we will be looking at no program at all. When coaches physically and verbally assualt fans, when thugs threaten to throw out our loyal supporters, and when we have a head coach who continually whines and is a poor ambassador for the university-- IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE NOW (NOT 2 YEARS FROM NOW)!!! What can be done ? 1) Barrage CBOR Bobby Ray with calls, e-mails, letters, and encourage others to do the same. His loyalty and friendship to DD is admirable, but as a businessman would he allow an employee to continually bad mouth his company and its customers? I think not! 2) Let RV know what you think of the situation. I can not express how greatly disappointed I was in the RV comments regarding the RF atrocity and its whitewashing to fans and press. Any HS would have found grounds for immediate dismissal, but the A.D.'s office yeilds to BOR pressure and craters. Tell the AD you want a leader who stands up as a true leader of the A.D.'s office not as a puppet to this new regime that threatens to destroy the progress of returning our programs to their rightful place in D-1 athletics. Above let it be known that this is not your daddy's North Texas where apathy was always a coach's best friend. Don't ever think that DD is not banking on that being his ace in the hole. It is extremely obvious to me that this man does not want to be here. Obvious by his actions toward the fans, his demeaning of the program , and his constant whinning. I will this week begin meeting behind the scenes with donors of the university who also feel that the time has come NOW (not 2 years from now) for a change. WE will raise and earmark the money to allow Darryl Ray Dickey to achieve happiness elsewhere. Our university deserves no less from its loyal fans. Just remember one indisputable fact-- this regime is higher paid, has had more fan support, has had better leaders in the A D office & the administration, and better facilities than any coaching staff EVER in the history of UNT-- I can name at least a half dozen staffs who have done far more with much less. This is a business--- lack of performance deserves no loyalty and for sure no rewards. Support the movement and encourage your A D to do his job NOW!!!

Another " crater" job to the metroplex privates. Any time, any where, any sport, UNT makes SMU/ TCU look like ALL AMERICANS-- I hope in my lifetime we somehow learn to compete to win against them, but it is highly doubtful. We are content to be the " best of the worst--SBC" and not one bit more.Oh for the Hayden Fry/ Bill Blakeley days when we played all sports as if we were anyone's equal. Until we learn that these privates are just other mid majors we will continue to be in awe of them anytime we compete. Oh how I dread September 9th, 2006 when IMHO we meet the overall lowest point in North Texas athletics!!!

Also in DMN is a comment that Tulane is struggling with tremendous debt and is again considering dropping football. Ever thought about what this season has actually cost us -- just a bid to CUSA which will now take LA Tech ASAP when we had wooed CUSA with facilities and now support. Now after this garbage season which is not and never has been a rebuilding season we are one upped by a backwoods nothing LA school for what should be OUR spot in CUSA!! Thank you DD as in Animal House " Thank you sir may we have another" kick in the rear that is!!

Hayden Fry was asked to leave SMU, all others mentioned left of their own accord. One other contrast--- Hayden Fry beat SMU and encouraged his coaches in other sports to step it up when competing with the metroplex privates. None of the above can be said of the others mentioned and even less will be said after game 2 of 2006.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to facing Vince Young and the possible defending National Champions the first game of 2006, and then getting bumped off at home by the SMU clowns.

Anyone got a big bucket of whitewash? I see a coverup coming.

Halftime incident w/the coaching staff

Really disappointed in RV's comment or lack thereof. -
Interesting thought-- LJ and RF = one common denominator---they both came from SMU

DRC NT can't hold on after taking late lead
DallasGreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually having some discipline in your team AND your coaching staff? What a novel idea! Maybe you can bring it up on that " infamous open microphone" on the Monday coach DD show, you know the one that no one has ever seen ! -
And where were you? Snug in Shreveport? Fans who have put up with this bogus regime have every right to voice their displeasure. I've been here since 1958 and never, ever have I seen such disgusting conduct from a coaching staff. It's time someone told Bobby Ray to get his act together " friend of THE MAN OR NOT" and let our A. D. (the only one with any credibility left) DO THE JOB HE WAS HIRED TO DO!!!!!

Sure works for our opponents all year

Has been noted the last 2 days in DMN as on 52 @ 6

I actually filled out 2 surveys , one from my home computer and one from work. it was a good sign that LJ was at LSU last weekend so he at least knows we have a football program.

We have played Chattanooga before in the last game Odus Mitchell coached in 1967. We scored the same number of points as the years he had been coaching. Also Chris Sanders of Flower Mound Marcus set a 1-AA passing record for the moccasins after transferring from SMU.

Me too IF we WIN against SMU w/o that WIN the season is a TOTAL loss no matter what we do otherwise. It has to be played like the MUST WIN game that it is!!!!!

Marshall Player Comment- "Team Youth"
DallasGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Excuses are like rear ends ---everybody's got one. Thank goodness for a coach with NO excuses and players that realize the production lies with them and what they brought to the table, not an ifs and buts approach to the game. -
A Night on Campus without Athletics.
DallasGreen replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Kudoos, Rick, well said. I couldn't help but notice last night how much fun the band was having with their performance. They blew the lid off the Pit to a standing ovation, all in all a great event for the EXES, thanks to all who attended. The one downer was that in spite of performances by all 3 Denton HS bands ( Guyer, Ryan, & DHS) there were woefully few parents there to support them. I could not help but think that if this had been 3 Lewisville, Carrollton-FB, or Plano school bands that the place would have been packed. Further evidence that Denton not only fails to support UNT, they don't even support their own high schools!!! -
Is it Dickey's offense or Ramon Flanigan's?
DallasGreen replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
Hire Todd Dodge and adopt the SL-C al la TT offense which is exciting to watch and lets you compete with more talented opponnets by quick short passes, wide line splits, and a check off to the run when everyone anticipates the quick throw. Also QB stays in shot gun and has a quick release. Recruits are schooled in the offense from day 1 as redshirts. QB's continually groomed to take over, i.e. Cody Hodges( 5th year senior just now a starter but takes up easily where others before him left off). Dodge would like to stay in the area since his son is only a soph @ SL-C, but would likely consider as he was an assistant earlier under Dennis Parker. He could be hired as OC with the understanding that he would get utmost consideration for HC should DD depart for any reason. Theory is great but DD/ BR would KO the idea in a New York minute. Many OCs in major programs such as Chuck Long @ OU would consider a HC offer for the salary we pay DD. Even take a shot at a young coach such as Major Applewhite as OC with the same deal you offer to Dodge. There are creative things that can be done but the salary increases and buy out clause to reward proving we were the " best of the worst" for 4 years has handcuffed the program unless a private buy out campaign can be mounted.I'll pony up the first 1K to get it started but we need 200 to match it. I thoroughly agree that this has been a 2 1/2 year demise, but we are now hitting rock bottom with no upturn in sight for the future, waiting longer to make a move only exacerbates an already serious problem. We are an AD away from being below where we were when we rose back to 1-A. Keep the faith? With Dr. Pohl leaving the ONLY faith I have in anyone is RV. In RV we trust!!!!! -
Dropped 9 spots in Sagarin...but I really don't

Dropped 9 spots in Sagarin...but I really don't
DallasGreen replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Kinda shows just how far we have dropped as we are now back to below where we were in 1994 when we made the jump back to D-1 ---more scholarships, better facilities, and higher coaches' salaries have produced a team that would finish fourth or fifth in the Southland. -
