  1. Or maybe next decade's big announcement?
  2. As for students you may be in the ballpark by give or take 15-20%, but we still got the same student fee out of them that we get for a game at Fouts so they are a non factor. From the crowd we had in the Stadium Club before the game, the non-student contingent that day was as stong or stronger than anything ever at Fouts. The fact remains that we will never, ever get that caliber team at Fouts or probably even at "The Field of Dreams" so we need to play at the venue to which they agree when we get that kind of opportunity. Those who feel we can get a top 25 team and/or an OU,UT, A&M, Big 10, etc. to come to DENTON are just drinking too much of the green koolaide. Hayden Fry realized you can't survive on just the long promised and long awaited Denton support, but that you MUST cultivate the metroplex which the current regime continues to ignore.
  3. You will be saying this a lot as long as we take the stupid, stubborn stance not to play in a metroplex venue when we have the opportunity to play a quality opponnet who travels well. The "Field of Dreams" would be great as a reality, but it is in a time far, far away from the present. Until then upgrade the "home" schedule where you can ( and don't tell me we stay on campus for the students who hurry home to Mom at the last class of the week or for the Dentonites that stay home in mass anyway). There's a reason that the largest home draw ever was at Texas Stadium, and you'll never see another close to it until we bend on this stupid stance.
  4. This would seem to not only show ignorance of the traditions of UNT, but a general ignorance of what national pride and tradition is as well. If they really have that little interest, they should have their diplomas mailed. My condolences to the parents and those who supplied the siphoned off financial aid for the embarrassment that these students brought upon themselves by their display of ignorance.
  5. Maybe they should get out of Denton a little more and see how it's done at other universities or maybe they just love to continue to Po Boy it and say o woe is me !!!
  6. Did anyone see Bennett on that list anywhere? A win in Dallas could really send the Ponies reeling!! It could not happen to a more deserving bunch of self centered snobs. MAKE THE MUSTANGS GELDINGS TWO YEARS RUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. The idea is to have the campaign at least one-half funded before it's publicly announced. The way we approach this, at 60, I still hope to see a completed stadium in my lifetime. The seat options as was done with Texas Stadium is also an excellent idea. It could be started today with just a little creative thinking and some guts. Neither seem to abound on our campus. I'd bank on FIU and maybe FAU having new stadiums long before NT. Neither of them feels the need to have to vote on student fees and that alone puts them far ahead of us!!!!
  8. We may as well quit bitchin' about Fouts. It's all we got and no big donor with $40 million is on the horizon although there is a $135 million capital campaign that has already started behind the scenes that includes $60 million for a new 31K stadium easily expandable to 50K when we show that we can make the 31K a "tough ticket", but that has NEVER happened consistently and won't until fans come to see the Mean Green play irregardless of who we play. There is a way to get started yesterday but the A.D. shys away from it. All these can get us going and the capital campaign now scheduled to last at least 5 years will bail it all out by completion: 1) Raise student fees by at least $20. per semester hour and designate it specifically for stadium ( don't let it be voted on, just do it, and if they don't like it they can leave but they still won't find as good a deal for the $$$ they pay anywhere else--it just takes some gonads like A$M & UT to lump "fees" into one figure no matter what they are for). 2) Sell revenue bonds like everyone else does and don't be paranoid that WSU defaulted on an issue. It's much easier to sell bonds than naming rights which are somewhat out of vogue right now 3) Put classrooms or sports medicine in the stadium and secure state funds for that part--UT is doing that on the north end addition as we speak and as I recall LSU and A$M have about as much space state funded as a dorm would get. Finally until this is done don't be so stubborn about playing high profile teams o/s Fouts. The Cotton Bowl will need another weekend game for the State Fair and a Big 10 or better would always like the Dallas exposure. Excess guarantee $$ are now freed by the CB game going to Jerry's World.
  9. Visit The North Texas Exes office on the right hand side at the bottom floor of the Arch at the Gateway Center and tell them you are interested in the FX group. By email you can contact joestewart@unt.edu;lingram@unt.edu:sheiser@unt.edu Joe, Lorie or Sarah (since Sarah is Director of Chapter Development, I would start with her) will gladly advise you of any info you might need. Thanks for signing up for the OU bus trip. Encourage others to do so NOW so we can make the premier of DODGEBALL a road trip like no other!!
  10. This is not actually technically correct. You can join the FX group (future exes) on campus now as a student. It's a good way to show your Mean Green Pride and that you intend to be an active alumnus.
  11. Because of the old Denton nester merchants and students ( who are mostly in DFW on Sat. anyway) our A.D. will not play a "home" game o/s Fouts. This will cost us some contests with more high profile D-1 opponents who recruit the metroplex. If the CB provides the guarantee and the gate is split along with concessions, programs, etc.( their revenue is coming from more State Fair visitors) why don't we push for the 4th CB annual game (3 slots are now taken but one weekend remains unfilled) against an at large D-1 opponent? If it's for the reasons mentioned then " the tail is wagging the dog". A game such as this would be far superior to playing "body bag" games in the opponent's stadium with none of our fans present since we have shown we have little or no chance to compete. Games like the last two @ UT would have better been forfeited than getting totally destroyed and embarrassed for the guarantee given us!
  12. No money is due at this time and won't be before road game tickets are on sale. If this survey shows significant interest RV will block out tickets for sale to those who are going on the bus trip. Three years ago the EXES took two buses to OU and it was a blast!! So show your interest now by signing up and let's make this happen!!
  13. What do you see as the odds at my age of 60 of this stadium happening in my lifetime? If A D refuses to do stadium bonds or student fee increase or classrooms within for some state funding ala UT and LSU, I see it as 25 to 1 AGAINST it happening in my lifetime!!!
  14. Exes will offer again through Eagle Tours. No parking fees or hassles. Bring food and drinks on the bus. Leave your articles you are not taking into the stadium on the bus and they are secure. Party down with other fans on the way, and arrive in plenty of time for tailgate. Discounted prices for EXES members and students. Looking into both Dallas and Denton pick ups and drop offs. This is a MUCH better option than driving and more fun. With the price of gas it will be less expensive than gas, parking, etc. and completely hassle free. Check with the EXES tent in Mean Green Village before spring game this Sunday and sign up now!!!
  15. We are missing a MAJOR opportunity to increase support in the metroplex by being so stubborn about not playing a "home" game outside of Fouts !!!! The Cotton Bowl is begging for FB games the other 2 weekends of the Fair. TT , T$M, SMU, TCU, rich out of state schools wanting to recruit DFW will be salivating for games on these dates. I support our AD as much as anyone, but he is dead wrong on his stance to not play outside Fouts when a refurbished Cotton Bowl with a big time opponent during the Texas State Fair is there for the taking with a good sized guarantee as well. RV don't be dupped again by Dentonites who show up disguised as empty seats. Play one per year in this venue and we will get the metroplex support we so desparately need, maybe even enough to build the "Field of Dreams" in Denton in my lifetime!!!
  16. Will be there and may have Coach Blakeley with me if he feels up to it.
  17. Go find someplace cheaper!! You won't. It's students like you that are the reason the FB stadium is not now already in place. For a fee of no more than you spend on beer in a semester we could have had the stadium. Now it may never be a reality. And yes I've given more $$$ to the stadium than you have paid in total tuition and never asked for a thing for doing so. Whinners that get a Neiman-Marcus education for a Walmart price and still moan need to get in the workforce and out of school if you can't pony up. Grow up and learn to have some pride in your university.
  18. NT provided the blow out for UT in 2006, but it still couldn't offset a loss to K-State. I know we need the $$$$$ from these games, but in the past several years they are a waste of the fans' time and money to make these trips. I've made my share, but will stongly consider not doing it again. BEAT SMU in DALLAS TOO!!!!
  19. Ultimate way to fix is never ever schedule the 'Horns again. The beating and embarrassment are not worth the $$$$ gained.
  20. Just to point out one more time that the greatest draw in our history came in Dallas. We MUST get over the idea that we are going to get a top BCS team to Denton no matter what the size or character of the stadium is. We can not continue to pass up one for twos with programs that will never, ever come to Denton. We can get the SMU,TCU, TX Tech, Okie St. types. However to get a T$M, UT, Big Ten, Pac10, etc. YOU HAVE to SWALLOW PRIDE and PLAY TO GET MAXIMUM EXPOSURE. Hayden Fry understood this, others who have followed chose to ignore and opportunities have been and continue to be squandered by stubborness on this obvious point.
  21. I know this may be outside the box thinking, but remember that TCU was able to beat OU-- and now with the new leadership and attitude, we are not light years behind the program at TCU. I too agree that OU and ARK are now opportunity games.
  22. About as humorous as the statement he made to the cops that all that marijuna was for "Personal Use"
