  1. If you are off today how about meeting us at the press conference @ 7 ?
  2. UPDATE: UNT will embark on an integrated, focused fundraising campaign, representing three focus areas: $60 million for a new stadium $20 million for a new business building $71 million for academic initiatives Half of the target total goal of $160 million is allocated to capital projects- bringing in the new stadium and a business building to campus and half to transform existing academic programs and areas from "good to great" with the first step to identify academic initiatives that will make up the integrated capital campaign. Depts. have been called for case statements proposing incentives to be included in this endeavor. So far COBA $14 million; College of Music $20 million; College of Education $23 million; College of Visual Arts $14 million Lawson & Assoc. consulting group is presently conducting external interviews through December. Results will be presented to multiple groups in the 3rd & 4th weeks in January. UNT will use the findings to see which projects have the highest probability of success and final presentation will be Feb. 6th ---per the Office of Development @ NTE BOD mtg. yesterday. Join the EXES-- check out www.ntexes.org to keep up and be in the know as an informed alumnus!!!
  3. I just hope that this is more than just a HC hire, but is instead a total committment for the university. Things like seeing that assistants are compensated on a level with their peers at other comparable sized schools, committing funds for summer school for players who either have to go or want to go to graduate early, promotion of the programs by campus faculty and student organizations, and finally a real committment by Denton to be a true college town that realizes what the universities continue to contribute to the town. A new HC is more than great, but it's time we addressed the smaller but daily problems of coaching at NT.
  4. The last time Denton Ryan played at SLC they sent back a good portion of their ticket allotment which Carroll quickly goobled up. Denton does not support any of its HS any better than its universities. Their was a reason it was named sorriest sports town in America a few years back. Until we begin to think as a part of the metroplex and not just as Denton our attendance will be mediocre at best, and a new "field of dreams" stadium will not change that either. Right now we could be giving a one for two with top 25 teams if the one was at Texas Stadium. There is a reason that our top draw ever was T$M @ TX Stadium.
  5. New Mexico State game for SBC Championship a few years ago.
  6. Note that Randy Butler was at SMU during Bobby Collins era so I'm sure he is familiar with how to run a crooked FB program
  7. Look for DD to be OC for Bennett soon
  8. Quote from an LA commentary " maybe to be highly ranked you should play service academies- Notre Dame played Army, Navy, and Air Force, and were rumored to be looking for a contest with an intramural team from the Coast Guard Academy"
  9. Just returned from CA. No way the slow footed Big 10 Clodhoppers can keep up with the speed of USC !!! Weakness of Big 10 FB will be exposed just as ND was.
  10. Always remember when you laude the SMU Cox School of Business that Edwin Cox, Jr. did time in the pen and took down 2 major Dallas banks!!!! style_emoticons/
  11. And Fry was holding down the A.D. job as well, and doing a darn good job considering the BB, track, and other sports that were also on top, but he and Bill Blakeley were far ahead of their time at NT. I only wish the younger posters could see how well an upbeat, can do, informative Athletic Department worked. Players and fans that believed anything was possible, bonuses to coaches for beating SMU & TCU, being on the news every week and many times the lead story. We were oh so close to being big time, but you have to remember that until then Denton had always thought small. Example-- It was said to me after Fry was gone that it was good ridance as he had run up a big deficit in athletics. I said the Sun. morning after we beat TN we had front page coverage in the New York Times--- how many times has any other dept. got that kind of PR and how much did he think it would have cost to buy it? No response.
  12. Be careful on showing that shirt as it got me deep on the A.D.'s SH-- LIST !!! Had the henchmen (staff) out to find me, just one week after his MGC coordinator had spent the whole UT game dressed in black hob nobbing in the UT End Zone Club, while the team was taking their drubbing for $$ outside. Can't do too much to light a fire around here or you will be the one who gets burned!!!
  13. OSU might take issue with you on that-- I wish NT had a T. Boone Pickens
  14. In the midst of this week's events I could not help but remember how we started down this road with Craig Helwig and his KSU connection which brought DD in with only lip service to any kind of a full interview process. It really disturbs me that RV might be leading us down the same path. This hire is important enough to the whole university that one can only hope that Dr. Batille and the BOR hold RV accountable for making the best choice out there and not just one with whom he shares a relationship. Even with the win over SMU the metroplex sees that as a fluke and sill considers us just little ole North Texas. More than anything else we need a coach who is genuinely glad to be at North Texas and shows that positive attitude to the fan base. I can only hope that the choice is one that can reestablish ties with Texas High School coaching that has been severely damaged the past few years. Personally I find that to be of much greater importance than the So. Miss connection.
  15. It should be a great place to be if you enjoy a lot of solitude!!!
  16. I said and I stand by it. As crappy as this season is we at least showed we could hold our on with a metroplex private for once!!! The fact that we quickly showed we were a paper tiger can not change that we won!!! I'll take that win against a hundred New Orleans bowls. The biggest game on the 2007 schedule is at Ford Stadium-- then we will meet the sleeping giant that we awakened on Sept. 9th and with our wretched athletic dept. it will be back to getting our butts handed to us as usual, but at least we got our once a decade win over TCU /SMU
  17. The crowd is not the point. Every Radio Station this AM was singing the praises of SMU--front page coverage in DMN, and main sports page story-- with the $$$ SMU has do they care that their attendance was 13,200? I think not. I feel like the Japanese Admiral in Tora,Tora,Tora in that our win over SMU only awakened a sleeping Giant and filled him with a terrible resolve. Hold on when we show up in Ford Stadium next year with DD, RV, LJ, RF, and all the gang. IT WILL BE REALLLY UGLY!!!!!
  18. Happy as Pie if this is the type program that we plan to continue, and I have been in the stands and giving big $$ for nearly 40 years. This program is a sham and disgrace to the university. A coach that does not want to be here and only is because of his crony on BOR, an AD who doesn't have the guts to stand up and do his job, and an administration who thinks you can be a major university w/o an athletic program. Either fund for 1-A or pull the plug, but at least then fund BB and don't do the UTA double cross of dropping FB and continuing as usual with that farce of a BB facility equivalent to drama on a stage BB.
  19. RV HAS NOT HAD THE GUTS TO STAND UP TO DD & BOBBY RAY BEFORE --WHY SHOULD HE SUDDENLY CHANGE? FB IS A TOTAL DISASTER--EITHER FUND FOR D-1 OR GET THE HELL DOWN TO DIVISION III W/O SCHOLARSHIPS AND PUT SOME $$$$$$$$ INTO BB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. RV=USM CRAIG HELWIG=KSU TOO MUCH LIKE THE SAME OLD STUFF THAT PUT HERE
  21. We sold out to a DD backer, and got a program that only masquerades as 1A when it could not finish in the middle of the pack in the Southland!!! RV needs to be more worried about coaches than facilities. DD has the most $$$, best facilities, most supportive BOR, and best student/fan base of any coach ever at UNT----and what has he done with all this but bitch and moan. No more excuses-- pony up the $$ to be 1A or get to Division III with FB and spend some $$$ on BB to be somebody. This FB program is a total embarrassment to fans, students, faculty, and even the old nester townfolk of Denton --either cook or get the hell out of the kitchen.
  22. I could not agree more as DD was a crony move by Helwig. If RV tries this I say adios to him as well, promote Hank to A D and get a coach with the savings from DD and RV's termination. With that we can entice a Todd Dodge, Major Applewhite, Charlie Waters, or Steve Kraigthorpe. An RV crony from old ties is way too much like what drug us down to this point in the first place!!!!!!!!!
  23. It was called stumble, fumble. and fall. We carried it out to perfection.
  24. Charlie Waters has coached in college before and would probably consider an offer
  25. Heard we were considering OC @ So. Miss. If true we'll just perpetuate the demise of this program. We need to great real with recruiters who are known in Texas high schools, i.e. Todd Dodge, Major Applewhite. It was sickening to see players from McKinney, Plano, etc. playing for ASU, but until we make a hire who can recruit in TX and decide to fund a D-1 program and not a wannabe, expect the same results.
