  1. The run plays in crucial situations are just a waste of down. If you can only call a run on fourth down just go ahead and punt. At least the opponent has to drive the field to score rather than having a chip shot from the failed run play. We have two tiny RBs who would love to have an 0 line that blocks, but they are just too small to do it by themselves. When does GH finally understand what is sooooo obvious to everyone else in the entire stadium???
  2. Mention of Rick Shaw in this article always rankles me. After his playing days which had no significant contributions to the program. There was an interview with Randy Galloway then of the DMNS in which Shaw was quoted as saying “ North Texas is a nothing school from a nobody league” That’s not the attitude that resonates with alumni who have given time and money to the program. Hopefully the players who now represent UNT have more pride and respect than to ever be associated wit such an obnoxious quote.
  3. I was at UTEP. We woke up at halftime from being overconfident. There we made adjustments and played a different second half. At UAB we were completely out played and out coached in the second half and we knew what was at stake and chose to not respond. Maybe the team remembered the piss poor crowd for So. Miss and thought if others don’t care why should we care
  4. Bowl eligible should not be the bar at this point in the program after so much financial support from fans, admins, and student fees. Much more has been done with so much less. We won’t even have the choice of a bowl not being in the conference championship. It’s not that this has not been a season in which we beat two uncharacteristicly weak teams in SMU & ARK, but we had so much more in our grasp leading handily at halftime and getting the ball to start the second half. We proceed to put up a goose egg on offense and thoroughly quit on defense ( ala the Dodge years).. We continue year after year to lose in big games. La Tech was not due to lack of effort, but second half against UAB was worst football played this year.
  5. Does everyone have that short of a memory? Mason Fine coughs up the ball to lose the New Orleans Bowl when we were just starting to show something. Same thing happens against UAB and he losses the game. In DMNS he says losses hurt, but it is apparent after the first loss the losses come easier. Count on 2 or 3 more this year. Second half reminded me of Dodge era teams. Fine may be setting records, but I saw Steve Ramsey and he is no Steve Ramsey. Season is lost. Let our young QBs and Quinn play. Quinn is at least mobile and a threat to run. Others have height and won't have the ball batted back in their face as Fine often does. In Fine's defense he has played hurt since La Tech, but other teams know this. They blitz because they know he can't run. They force him out of the pocket where he is no threat on the sprint out. True he has heart but that won't help him grow. Time to see what the bigger QB's can do. As of now there is nothing to lose, the season ended last night.
  6. If we play like in the last two games, we won't have to worry about any poaching. We made too many mistakes against La Tech and against UTEP we were just plain awful. I attended both and we were damn lucky to beat UTEP. We were one fourth down dropped pass from a real embarrasement!!!
  7. Just let Wren handle this unlike when Rawlins overrode RV to hire McCarney. Batille told RV to not pay over $250K so what could he do except get HS coaches? I hope that now that the A.D. is a V.P. as well Wren has the ultimate say in all things athletic. If we are going to worry about losing someone it should be Wren !!!
  8. I agree that for the most part Mason is great, but I still can not get out of my mind that opening possesstion of the second half of the NO Bowl when we were much in the game. He is hit from behind and coughs up the ball in our end of the field, and it's pretty much game over from there. He says he turned the wrong way and basically busted the play. That's understandable, but the fumble is not. We fumbled way too much last year, and a lot was slow release or failure to know when to throw it away. FAU both times took advantage of this. We must stop turnovers. SMU will turn every one of these into scores, and soon we will be in too deep a hole to ever climb out by constantly keeping a thin defense on the field. With regard to last year I can respect 4 losees before the bowl game( SMU where Sutton entirely dominated the game and Iowa and FAU(2) where we were clearly outclassed), but Troy was an aberation. They beat us worse than anybody on their schedule other than Coastal Caolina. Their QB had a hot hand and we were w/o Jeffery Wilson, but I still feel we played poorly on both sides of the ball and our game plan was non existant. No way Troy is that much better if at all. We just seemed to be going through the motions with no real desire to win. I suspect the 2 FAU blow outs had a lot to do with destroying any confidence. Just remember that yes 2017 was a nine win season, but we LOST 3 of the last 4 games. I would give 7 and take SMU in the opener if anyone is so inclined at the ticket pick up tommorrow.
  9. You could have substituted the Cowboys D-Line and FAU would have still blown us out. Both contests we were outclassed and beaten unmercifully.
  10. It has been the most important for the last 3 years, and we rollover and play dead. I wish for some enthusiasm from coaches, team, students, & Denton but based on the past I would not expect it. Band will appear in their Jr. High tees and shorts (embarrassing), team and coaches see it as another ho hum OOC game. Visitors might bring 500 at best. This is the one home game I will be out of town. I could not stand to see a fouth straight loss to those arrogant bastards. If we lose agai we should cancel the series as we are not competitive. The coverage In Dallas of this game kills us there for the rest of the year every year.
  11. At least w/o Sutton and Quinn we might make a game of it, but considering the last three years us being favored borders on ludicrous. Very smal crowd since nobody but older alumni care. Too hot for students and band, and Denton won't learn that there was even a game until after Labor Day.
  12. More coverage of the unmerciful whipping that Lane Kiffin hands out each time we face his team. At least late enough not to make the news.
  13. I can assure you from my visit to the University of Wyoming campus last week that the figure quoted is supportable. Although Laramie is a third the size of Denton it is a thousand times more supportive of its athletic programs and of the university as a whole. Their facilities including a state of the art indoor practice facility are outstanding. It is easy for UNT to stand on the outside and throw cold water on studies or proven successes of other universities' athletic programs, but just visit these campuses that you criticize, and you may understand that although we may have made great strides , we are still light years behind even our peers much less the P5.
  14. Well said, and I might add that if you have to take the field in shorts and tees until mid October just stay in the stands. Looks like a Jr. High or worse.
  15. I thought FAU was a top 25 in '17. They certainly deserve their spot . How can someone not agree after they thoroughly trounced us twice? Both were no contest almost as much as was SMU. Now Troy was another matter--they had a QB with a hot hand that day, but look at their record. Only Coastal Carolina was beaten worse than us in the SunBelt. I can still see us getting possession after half at two points down and Fine taking the sack and coughing up the ball--game over!! it's no fault of his getting sacked but you don't cough up the ball when we had the chance to make it a game. Low point of season considering opponnet ( except for SMU which is always a beating). La Tech exposed just how poorly we match up every year against SMU by their performance in the Frisco Bowl. I FINALLY have learned and given up my tickets to the first game. We stand a better chance of beating Arkansas than SMU. It's taken 50 years of frustration to finally prove to me that SMU will always outclass and out perform us in every way. We hand Sutton 4 of the 10 TDs he gets for '17 season, and the next week TCU shows how to make him a non factor. Except for the game where SMU wanted an excuse to fire June Jones and laid down, we have not even been close to being a factor in that game for decades. See you later , and hope you enjoy the beat down on Sept. 1. When will we finally pull the plug on this series? The embarrassement has gone on long enough.
  16. When is the date for Denton-- only one I may can make if it is May 20
  17. RIGHTFULLY SO UTSA HAS KICKED OUR ASS EVERY YEAR EXCEPT FOR THE1-11
  18. No one takes a loss to SMU worse than me. I consider that game a WAR not a game. However with our lack of preparation, hiddeous game plan, and bringing a Jr. High band in their shorts and tees, it is evident that this game is not important to North Texas. We certainly don't play it for the guarantee so why keep it to continue the embarrasement of our lack of ability to compete? As Wren Baker stated at a COBA breakfast prior to the SMU game " Never have so many gotten so excited for so little (lack of success)" Be our hero Wren and get us out of this annual whipping!!!
  19. We do not PLAY SMU we just show up to take an anuual whipping while they they then go to Ft. Worth and get the same. If you can't compete then give it up and get down with the bantum weights where you belong!!
  20. This season will always hinge on giving up 4 touchdowns to Coutland Sutton and having him rub it in your face with an unsportsmanship call. The next week TCU holds him to one catch for 8 yards. Was TCU's DC that much better than ours? Looks like it! It is apparrent that the SMU series is meaningless to players, students, coaches and most fans. The best thing Wren Baker could do for UNT's image is to buy out that series and never play them again as our lack of ability to compete is no longer disheartening it is a downright embarrassement to fans in the metroplex!!

    Gray jerseys

Just look dirty. Hard to see numbers.
  22. Did not help our image to have a band that shows up in the attire of a Junior High band. Yes it was hot. How many other college bands did you see in shorts and t shirts? You think it's not hot for the players in pads, etc.? If UNT band plans to come to SMU dressed like Denton's Jr. High band I for one hope they stay home. I admire their spirit and enthusiasm, but this is on their leaders in the music dept. Either get them some lightweight summer, real uniforms or cut it down by half to 200 so they can look like a real D-1 college band.
