Mean Green Men's Basketball Game Tonight
DallasGreen replied to chrisfisher's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree that the student turn out has been good and vocal when school is in session. My point is that few students make a short drive back for games during the break. BB attendance at other schools does not shut down during the break. Student lack of support when most are so close to campus hurts the quality of our schedule during this time and ultimately RPI for tournament play. We need the good ones like the Pit Crew to encourage the others to know that MG BB continues during the break and they need to support it the entire season!!! -
Mean Green Men's Basketball Game Tonight
DallasGreen replied to chrisfisher's topic in Mean Green Football
The students haven't shown up in a month since the Chritmas break, which seems longer each year, even though " home" is probably less than an hour's drive back to campus for most. Weeknight 7 PM starts make metroplex fans have to be "road warriors" to get there. If you want to jump on the general public get after the Dentonites and faculty who have the red carpet treatment and have a pitiful turnout for this exciting team. NT BB puts on as great a show as any team since the Blakeley era. Too bad that Dentonites choose to sleep through it!!!! -
A $2 Million coach ALWAYS gets there faster than a $200K coach. The PONY EXPRESS is now alive and well and will race through C-USA.

Great Move every verbal we have at a skill position is now having second thoughts. Why can SMU expect to win NOW but we are on a four year program and don't even question it? Look at next year's schedule ---we are 1-3 to start at the very best ( blow out loses to LSU,KSU,Tulsa with MAYBE a squeaker over those mean ole' RICE Owls--wait Rice beat SMU in 2007 and we lost by two TD's for the Ponies' ONLY win--maybe 0-4 is more like it).

Who Should Td Hire As The Next Defensive Coordinator
DallasGreen replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
And we trailed 28-0 at halftime -
Someone more in line with a team that got beat by FIU--- say Sul Ross, Texas Lutheran or Austin College.
-
Hopefully that long term series deal with SMU has fallen through, otherwise we're hay foder for the Mustangs even worse than in the past. $10 million buys a great coach and staff.

In the imortal words of the late great, Ron Shanklin, POTENTIAL MEANS YOU AIN'T DONE " SH__" YET!!!!

Tell me all this when you've put a few $$G's into this program, been to all the out of town games and really seen first hand just how BAD this season was!! I did not give intangibles an F, but phrases such " being behind is an opportunity for a comeback", "the defense will be the strength of this team", "have your teammates back at all times", etc. did not ring as truisms to me. Roman cost us 3 safteys in two games, several muffs, and seeing him at CB was purely ludicrous. BTW I didn't find your post enligtening either!!!!!!!!! I still say losing to FIU makes us the WORST team in D-1 hands down. It doesn't get any worse.

Quick, New Unt Fan Update
DallasGreen replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Why ? Just so we can be a sacrificial lamb, losing to them and FIU made this season a TOTAL disaster. -
Overall- D- Much hype before the season, all of which proved to be just coach talk, players never played like they were on any type of a "mission" , "journey" in TD coach speak. Another year like this and TD's HS record and reputation won't count for squat! Offense- B- Young QB and RB impressive, o-line came on until debacle at FIU Defense-F- - Sorriest in D-1, chief cause of loses to two one win teams (SMU & FIU), a constant source of embarrasement Specialty teams- Who ever signed Evan Roman as a D-1 player should be fired ! Intangibles- C- Great hype job in preseason, what do you now tell fans since all that proved to be lies, no team with any pride loses to FIU Recruiting-- ?- Jury still out, bound to lose some verbals after horrible first season, interesting to see what camp draws this year as luster of 79-1 fades to 2-10

Quick, New Unt Fan Update
DallasGreen replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
When they sign Fran or June Jones in the next two weeks we just better be happy that they are as yet not on a future schedule. $10 million gets you a lot of coach especially when you show you can raise it as quickly as SMU did. -
I am always in amazement when students knock or ignore their own school. To me that's like saying look at the loser I am for the choice I made. Meanwhile the admins crow about enrollment but molly coddle these ingrates by knee jerking to their every whim about tuition , fees etc. If we want to BE a large enrollment university begin by projecting a BIG university image. # 1 stick a $50. per student per semester athletics fee increase on the tab and don't take a vote, just pay it or go find some place cheaper where you can get the same quality of education. They won't find it . Even if they do what is lost but another parasite commuter who takes but never gives back. We have been left behind by the rest of the SBC not to mention light years behind other non-BCS schools because of this entitlement attitude of our students. Whine all you want, but unless we succeed in athletics, the state of Texas doesn't give a rat's A-- about Music, Teachers, or any of the liberal BS that the "White Squirrels" find so important. Alumni will invest in stadium bonds but student fees, event revenue, and big game guarantees must eventually retire those bonds. It's a joint effort of students and alums. It's just time for the admins to get the gonads to make this happen. Once it does pride and respect will replace apathy.

New Stadium Questions: What Comes First, Design Or Cost?
DallasGreen replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
It would be interesting to see the $$$$$ that have been raised at ANY price range. As of today we couldn't have built C. H. Collins that DISD built. -
The $10 million raised in just over three weeks will get Fran or better. Lucky we weren't able to pull off that long term contract with SMU as it would get even more lopsided than our last Dallas butt kicking.

Fau Has Bought About 700 Tickets For The No Bowl
DallasGreen replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
It's clear you have never been to the Florida Gold Coast--FAU & FIU will be the next USF and UCF before we even remotely ponder a new stadium.Show me that wonderful football facility we are building--oh, only some blueprint to impress recruits? We're closer to 1-AA and renting C. H. Collins from DISD than having a new stadium. Talk it up and lie all you want as construction costs rise 10% each year. We need to get off our high horse. Most of the SBC has long since passed us by, facilities and competition as well. Not just a coincidence that these schools aren't timid about upping student fees. What big win against even a mid major have we had in the last 20 years (other than TT)? We even have to go back to '88 to a close loss to UT to have a discussion. And No we won't be visiting Lubbock's Jones Stadium anymore since we refuse to play TT in Dallas. -
most glaring weakness--scheduling--need many more 1-AA teams with whom we MIGHT compete.

And two teams that beat UNT's butt this year and are truly making progress to compete and have better facilities. No "field of dreams" from either. -

New Stadium Talk Is A Diversion For Pitiful 2007 Record
DallasGreen replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Optimism will take you so far then REALITY kicks in. -
If you actually take the time to read RV's comments we are just using the money already funded by the Goldfields' to do what we said we would do with it when it was given--fund an architectural study. If we still think most of $52 million has to be raised from private donations when we just posted a 2-10 season losing by double digits to two of the worst teams in the country and ranking as the worst defense in the nation, the funding might as well be from the sale of oceanfront property in Arizona--It won't happen. Funding of say $20 million with another $5 million from the state for classrooms ,etc. al la UT's north end zone project with the remainder from $30 million of stadium bonds, retired over 10 to 15 years by a $50/head per semester stadium fee surcharge plus extra revenue from sale of luxury suites and naming rights, and it COULD be done. Probability of all that falling together with university red tape is small unless the business minds such as Dan Smith of the BOR can prevail over university politics. Those in academics that refuse to believe that we can be recognized as a first rate university in the state of Texas w/o first class athletic facilities and programs are as full of crap as a Christmas Goose.
-
New stadium=/ not in my lifetime Todd Dodge= here and now with a Dennis Parker like first season ( losing by double digits to FIU & SMU=total failure in first year) Ten million $$$$$$$$$$$$$ raised in a week for a FB coach= Todd & Riley to SMU in a heart beat and NT back to 1-AA
-
And OSU whom Troy slaughtered is bowl bound--go figure.

When the howling cajuns making the short trip over from Baton Rouge have dispensed with the clod hoping, slow footed Big Ten Buckeyes (isn't a buckeye similar to a horse turd?), think about the next time that the LSU Bayou Bengals take the field if you want some real nightmares during the off season---$700K can't make the massacre this will be any more palatable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
