  1. Not if you have to do an overnight--cost is prohibitive and logistics are a nightmare. Rice in Houston makes much more sense for a bus trip.
  2. You won't keep good coaches with a "relatively small budget" Until this administration decides to step up to D-1 salaries and funding we'll keep slipping further behind. You are fixing to see how fast money buys wins with June Jones @ SMU. If we keep on keeping on as is, we will rue the day we extend that contract, but my money is on them never agreeing to it now. BTW FIUs student fee $13 mill sure kicked our arse last game!!!
  3. Hope it's that close this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Why do we blindly project that there will be no crowd for the ASU game? Sure the date is not the greatest, but Thanksgiving is over by then. Other than going malling for Christmas gifts, what are our student body, faculty, and Denton nestors doing on that day?? Football fans will be there just as they are at every other major university. Assuming the no crowd date is BS unless we want to self prothicise, just please don't make it a late Nov. night game again!!!
  5. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOR & Admins= zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  6. Six wins with at least four of those in the SBC must be a minimum goal to show real progress.
  7. Talk is cheap and potential just means you ain't done sh_t yet!!
  8. Don't bet against them. I've just visited FAU and they are thinking Forward Ho as we speak rather than being asleep at the wheel as our admins doze away.
  9. Looking for this GREAT DONOR on his white horse to arrive to pour millions of $$$$ into a FB program that just went 2-10 and looked worse than that record shows is buying into the admins party line of doing nothing and hoping this whole stadium "problem" just goes away. IF and a very big IF we were to get such a donor it won't be for love of UNT but instead for a colossal business opportunity. The wait for this mythical persona continues while creative program starters such as competitive student fees, tax incentive funding ( see City of Arlington who made a big investment in two stadiums, but will get that back many times over through sales tax, hotel occupancy tax, and general PR as a sports entertainment destination-- see Denton who spent $20 mill on a HS Stadium that the nestors have never half filled but yet they figuratively thumbed their nose at their largest economic stimulator--UNT), bond programs used to the tune of $21 million by UT for south end zone improvements, academic facilities housed within athletic facilities to get some state funding (see LSU dorm housed in Death Valley and UT Kineseology Dept. in north end zone improvements), prepaid luxury box options, and finally just a "can do" attitude rather than all this wishing and hoping for that GREAT DONOR to surface. Write or better yet tell Jackson, Batille, McQueen ( VP for Development), Andrew Harris (VP for Finance), and particularly RV that you're damned sick of this waiting with no creative thinking!!!
  10. You can bet it will be a lot closer than the last 3 times we played in Austin!!! Remember in 2007 'Horns had some problems with UCF. I was impressed with FAU and especially their coaching in NOB and at Fouts. Ahhh ----remember light years ago when we thought a trip to NO in Dec. was expected? Now we talk four year programs to just become competitive. It will happen if admins do the RIGHT thing and kick up student fee to be competitive with the FAUs and FIUs that we compete against. If Lamar, UTSA, TX St @ SM can do it why can't UNT?
  11. There needs to be a sense of urgency to get this done, but we still hold back on the student fee when everyone else in the NCAA uses it to pass us by. We are now being passed by the SLC as the SBC has already said "eat our dust" if you won't get with the program and use your biggest resource --number of students-- to jump start this project.
  12. What time does it start?????
  13. If they look to schedule cupcakes, we must be the ultimate icing. Our LSU game is just one more example that our team is up to be prostitued out anytime for a high 6 figure payout. Never mind the injuries, loss of morale, or erosion of fan base just show me the $$$$$. Of course we don't dare ruffle our dirt poor students' feathers by charging an athletic fee comparable to now TX St @ San Marcos, UTSA, Or Lamar. Those must be bastions of the elite to charge the full state mandated fee of $225/ full time student. Until we fund for D-1, we continue to be a wannabe.
  14. What I liked best about Corky was how fierce a competitor he was, and also how he actually wanted this job even though he was in line to succeed Grant Teaff at BU. I remember after the 1983 1-AA playoff game @ Reno against a Nevada team that beat us in O/T when we would have beaten them by 2 TDs @ Fouts, he was so mad after the game that he kicked the grill of a NVHP car. The trooper told him one more move and he'd use his nightstick. We had first possession in O/T and drove to the one yard line ( the whole game was played either in mud, blizzard, or frozen conditions depending on time of day). Greg Carter our QB took the snap on 4th down and their LB was blitzing. Greg had been told to pitch if the blitz came. He did and the back's hands were so cold and the ball so slick that he fumbled and NV promptly kicked a FG with one of the Zendahas bros. and won the game. Sadly had Greg not pitched, he could have walked into the end zone, but he was doing what he was coached to do, but the conditions were far too bad to chance a pitch. The sad thing was we had the option of playing the game in Denton, but Fred McCain and Walt Parker would not make a pitifully small attendance guarantee to get the game ( something like 7,500). I feel had we played in Denton for that game we stood a very good chance of going all the way in 1-AA that year. This is what Corky was up against. I was at his house many times. He was very personable and a great guy. I last ran into him in Ruiodosa about 7 years ago, but I had since heard about the Parkinson's.
  15. We can all wish for better but it doesn't change a rancid 2-10. Unlike others on this board I'm not willing to give a 4 year pass on winning. Six wins in 2008 is not too much to ask IMHO. Anything less shows no progress.
  16. He's been cleared, and we desperately need defensive linemen. Would the time he spent in jail count as sitting out a year so that he could play immediately and not be subject to the transfer rule?
  17. Should have been South End Zone permanent seats in place of rented bleachers. My mistake, but this portion of the project is $25 mil---$4 mil donations and $21 mil bonds.
  18. The South End Zone improvements cost $25 million with $4million from donations and $21 million from stadium bonds. Of course we think this has to be in reverse and get donor $$ before bond $$. That's why our progress is SOOOOOOOOOOO Slow
  19. Each of the teams--ARK ST and UNT are exploring moving the T-Day wekend game to the next weekend or first Sat. in Dec. Ark.St. doesn't want a T-Day weekend game any more than UNT does.
  20. They are Texas State @ San Marcos. Texas State is a system that includes SFA and SHSU. They can call themselves Texas State @ Huntsville or Texas State @ Nacogdoches any time they want to. San Macos just conveniently drops the @. We tried to get the name Texas State in the 70's but were told A$M had it reserved in case they ever wanted to change. They are the only Ag school in the country other than predominantly Black Florida A&M who is not a State ,i.e., Okla. State , LA. St. ,etc.
  21. True in Denton where you have no crowd you have no traffic. Just be prepared to NEVER play a top 50 school if you insist on playing in Denton, stadium or not. RV actually asked UT to do a 1 for 2 with the 1 being in Denton, and you could hear Dodds laughing all the way from Austin. To be so paranoid about playing in Dallas is just plain stupid. Baylor has already contracted to play Norte Dame in Jerry's World 'cause they know that they could never get them to come to Waco. Playing a game in Dallas during the week of Thanksgiving at least has the chance of a draw. and Grey Eagle One the thought of running buses from Denton is really ludicrous. Do you really believe students and nestors can't drive to Dallas? Most go there on a daily basis. Ark. St. in Denton @ Fouts on the Sat. after Thanksgiving should be a great place to be if you like a great deal of solitude to meditate on just how stupidity and stubborness can wreck a season's attendance numbers.
  22. It happened and came eventually from one of the regents after conferring with the A D. There are many egos involved in this huge project. IMHO that's why it has proceeded like DD's stealth recruiting under a vail of secrecy. I don't care who gets it or how----- just show me the money. We need more of a sense of urgency and more creative, imaginitive ideas for financing as well as fundraising. It takes professionals not committees that meet for the sake of meeting--educators at universities are famous for this.
  23. This fact belabors the point of why those living so close are no shows during the breaks--Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Spring, when "home" whether visiting with "Mom & Pop" or school home near campus is less than 30 minutes away. No excuse for our dismal student attendance when not in session.
  24. WELL I SURE HOPE WE ARE FINDING THEM!!! Contacts at So. Miss & LSU won't get a cup of coffee with a dime in DFW. There have been offers to help from some who have had coaching contact with the sons of the rich and famous in Dallas who have offered to help and been told "no thanks" by athletics. IMHO Athletics and Development need more professional fund raisers --not more trainees. recent losses in Development---Schrader, Davidson, Vinson---in Athletics-- Fralicks. This is just another of the myriad of reasons that the athletic budget needs to be increased by realistic student athletic fees comparable to our competition. See last Fri. DMN on tuition fee increases of $16-$17 per semester hour or $300-$500 per semester for a full time student. Increase to be used to "enhance the reputation of the university". What would accomplish this more than realistic D-1 funding for athletics?
