Extremely good question. I truly think that such a fee would build the pride to attract the traditional college student and only run off those not serious about a degree i.e. commuters, part timers, and old folks going back to school because they are under or unemployed. In the long run an increase in traditional college students can only help. They are the ones who will take pride in a competitively funded athletic program, and they are the ones who will feel the need to give back after graduation. As for the other selfish parasites---let them try to find something cheaper and don't let the door hit them in the rear as they exit!!

You just hit the nail on the head PERCEPTION IS EVERYTHING. I just spent two days at an alumni retreat hearing from the Prez, RV, Development, and Governmental affairs. Until RV spoke at lunch on Sat. there was never a mention of UNT athletics. If these presentations had been silent on athletics at UT, T$M, TT, or even BU, SMU, TCU, or even TX ST @ SM the presenters would have been tarred and feathered. WE WILL NEVER,EVER BE RECOGNIZED AS ANYTHING BUT AN APATHETIC COMMUTER COLLEGE until our leadership monetarily budgets for a D-1 athletic program. You can talk about needs in other areas all you want but the one the public sees is a dilapadated high schoolish stadium when they drive down I-35. What other facility built in 1952 is still used on this campus? As for the point on our accounting dept., it was #2 in the state nearly 40 years ago when I graduated. It has had a boatload of endowments and $$$ from the national firms, and it now ranks worse than SMU which did not even have an accredited business school when I attended NT. Funds are there for all depts., but they will never come freely until our alums can share the pride that only athletic success can bring. It is now and will always be the most publicly visable venue of any university. WE need leaders who fund it like they want to be proud of it. Until they do the great unwashed of the world only thinks of our grads as GRUNTS FROM UNT NOT ABLE TO ATTEND A HIGH PROFILE UNIVERSITY!!!!

I have seen nothing to indicate we presently intend to upgrade the athletic budget when we are so pitifully behind EVERYONE else. As far as the hush hush quiet phase of the stadium there will either be everything coming together this fall or by the end of 2009 we will further downgrade athletics under Dr. Batille's " leadership". Don't kid yourself FUNDS CAN BE REALLOCATED TO ATHLETICS ANYTIME SHE GIVES THE WORD.

If you are computer literate--- go to the website or write dmorgan@unt.edu for more info. than you can read. Sometimes you have to make an effort rather than being a parasite. -
No More North Texas Exes To Kick Around Anymore
DallasGreen replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Incorrect information --in the bylaws it states that any officer or board member has to be a paid up member of University of North Texas Alumni Association. Notice I did not say "The" as UT has a copyright as "The University". I have been on the Board for ten years and know others that were ten years ahead of me. At NO time during that period was ANYONE who did not graduate from North Texas a leader in this organization. You are just flat out wrong on that information. -
As of January 1, 2009 all references will be to University of North Texas Alumni Association-- phase out of North Texas Exes begins immediately and is mandated to be complete by 1/1/2009.

Muts Boost Student Tuition And Athletic Fees
DallasGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
My late father used to tell me "Can't never could do anything". I have heard the word can't more times than I can recall in my almost 50 years of following UNT athletics. If we are ever going to get off dead center, it will be with a grass roots movement that says we want a D-1 budgeted athletic program NOW!!! No four year plan for winning FB, no 12 year capital campaign that stays mired in the "quiet phase", no faculty or students who demean our university, and make apathy shunned rather than embraced. This is the message that needs to be sent loud and clear to those in power, but it will take real grass roots die hards to send it home. As far as this stupid state law which smacks of UT,TAM politics being a burden, I say make it an advantage by taking our cause to the media for some investigative reporting as to why it's there and who was responsible for it. We can sit by and let all college athletics pass us by (and I include the SLC in that as we are already far down the food chain in the SBC) or we can say I'm mad as hell and I won't take this attitude anymore. It's time for Gretchen, Jackson, and all the others to be for or against D-1 athletics--no more lip service, we want action NOW!! -

I even know someone who went to school with Tommy Lee Jones who has North Texas ties, but the A.D. never would listen to him before so why should he now?

Unt College Of Business Scholarship Breakfast

Contact bradolson@friscolumber.com as he is putting together one or two tables of ten. -
I remember asking TD about it afterwards since he is not pro hot doggin' it. He said Fizgerald told him he actually felt someone was catching him and wanted to be sure he got in the end zone. Probably makes sense since we failed to get close to paydirt most of that schocking opener.

If UNT is 0-3------ 1,500 traveling to RICE after an open date is a VERY generous projection.

Florida Atlantic A Possible Bcs Buster ?

SEE UCF & ASU GAMES VS. UT LAST YEAR. UT BETTER BE READY FOR SCHNELLY AND FAU OR THIS WILL BE A TRAP GAME SUPREME. -
Why would anyone want to sponsor a trip to either of these two butt whippings? Besides they are far enough away that overnight accomodations would have to be included further complicating a trip to games that no one but a sadist would want to see.
-
I've spent my last $$ attending bodybag games: Rice= yes LSU & KSU= no way

My info came directly from the incoming President. And unless you have been involved in scheduling one of these bus trips you have no business saying that it can be done at a moments notice. Contracts have to be signed, pick up logistics planned, advertising, accounting for funds, monitoring progress toward a successful event, and a lot of pushing to get it sold. Those two buses to Norman did not happen overnight. Plans were being made before the spring game, and we were selling a coach who was 79-1 not 2-10.
-
I thought Riley Dodge was supposed to be in this game. Maybe his shoulder rehab is not progressing as well as we have been led to believe.
-
There will be no EXES bus trip. Plans would have had to be in motion before this time. I was told that there was no interest shown in this event in view of last year's disappointing season.
-
I don't know what Raider has against FAU. They have a realistic student athletic fee that will keep a decent athletic budget unlike UNT, they have a FB coach who has won an NCAA National Championship not a state HS championship, they have a billboard showing plans for an ultramodern stadium -retail-residential complex while we stay cloaked in secrecy during our "quiet phase" which has remained very quiet for going on four years now, and their campus was prominent enough to host the January Presidential debate. In my visit I found it to be clean, new, open, and a well populated student campus. I think the fact that it represented the SBC well in NOB and is a hands down pick to repeat as SBC champ is sparking a little jealousy from MTSU. I think STEBO's analysis about similarity with USF is right on target. If we are to stay close to the FLA schools in the SBC, we need to step it up NOW not a four year plan --we don't have the luxury of that much time before we are left in their dust.
-
Sorta reminds you of June Jones and SMU doesn't it?
-
Not having Evan Roman back to attempt to field punts should improve that phase immensely. Still a 2 or 3 win team and the rebuild continues, on, and on, and on, and on. Anyone else want to WIN NOW!!! It never took Hayden Fry, Corky Nelson, or even Matt Simon this long!!!!!!!!!!!
-
All of you must have had several screwdrivers with a heavy dose of green koolaide or else you saw a different team play last year than I did. Giving SMU & FIU their ONLY WINS is nothing to be proud of.
-
Notice that we are not missing to BCS schools but the SMU, Rice, TCU's of college FB-- the miserable 2-10 showing of last year with a pathetic defense and furnishing SMU & FIU with their ONLY wins of the year is taking its toll. Recruits want to win NOW even if the fans seem content for a four year or longer rebuilding program.
