Brief Nt Daily Article On The New Stadium/athletic Fee Vote
DallasGreen replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
What makes you think nationally prominent teams will want to come to Denton no matter what the stadium used to play them? Top tier BCS schools want DFW exposure and that comes with TX Stadium, Cotton Bowl, or Jerry's World. I'm all for the new stadium and even more importantly an athletic budget that allows UNT to compete with mid majors, but to think the stadium will bring in any more than Baylor, Rice, TCU, Okie State, SMU, or others of that caliber is ludicrous. -

I know you intend to be a cup half full person, but if you think KSU is a Big 12 North contender, I hope you'll put your money where your mouth is 'cause Mizzou and Kansas will both kick their ass probably along with Nebraska. When ULM throws away a win against AK, MTSU beats MD,Arkie ST whips A $ M, and even FIU plays more competitively against much better competition than we have faced ( by the way didn't we end their 26 game losing skid when our coaches said "they just had better atheletes"?) what is there to look forward to about playing our SBC schedule? The SBC passed us up four years ago and we are now further from competing than we were then!

From Yesterday's Game Vs Tulsa...lance Dunbar...
DallasGreen replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
He got six after Riley's reverse and he cost us six with the fumbled kick off that he was in no particular hurry to find, about evens out as far as I am concerned--maybe potential but we have way too much of that. Potential just means you ain't done nothin' yet! -
To show that you are a real man and do appreciate the fans that came and spent their $$$ to watch this pathetic display - a public apology a la the Army coach would be a good start!!

Drc: Unt Veterans Remember Tulsa Setback
DallasGreen replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Except that it is Todd Graham who is the coach not Johnson. Are you preoccupied with thinking about the prospects of facing the Tulsa QB GEI? -
Drc: Unt Veterans Remember Tulsa Setback
DallasGreen replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Like it or not Tulsa is less than one-eighth the size of North Texas, but has gone on from our MVC days to build a very competitive mid major program. They even used what should have been NT's choice for head coach when DD was hired. We have more students, more alumni, a better location, and a much better base to recruit from--what we lack is leadership at the top that pushes for athletics to have its prominent place in promoting the university. If you see GB today tell her you want to see athletics get the funding it deserves. If she doesn't lead in seeing that the adequate funding for athletics comes to pass, she is just blowing so much hot air about this being a tier I research university in Texas. Without the window to the university that athletics brings you just have egg head profs calling the shots, and a student body with a community college mentality. If GB is a true leader urge her to start acting the part! -
Troy Phillips wrote a great article with a positive spin. Much better than all the negativity or worse apathy that a lopsided OOC loss can bring.

Personally, to quote a former Oklahoma State Senator " I want to build a university that the football team can be proud of". We need that type of endorsement from a President and then we will end the quiet phase and get some action finally!!!!!!!!!!

BEST NEWS OF THE DAY--DON'T RESCHEDULE--TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN

2-10 once again--- we have ourselves a higher paid Dennis Parker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would you rather be a contender every year or be a permanent doormat in the Big 12. UH was definitely the better choice, OU,UT,T$M,OSU, TT---who can BU beat in the Big 12 South?

As I understand it Mean Green Premium has to get permission from the host team to tap into their video feed so if they grant it you can get streaming video on Mean Green Premium. KSU has NOT granted the right so it won't be shown. SMU was similar last year, but you could pay them $10. for that game and get on their network which I did and watched from Maui. Don't know if the KSU site might offer something similar. I watched Ark. St. and FIU last year on Mean Green Premium, I attended all the other games except SMU as mentioned above. Two things you have to put up with is the delay from the radio call to the video or else listen to their audio with their home announcers. I chose the latter. Except for our home games Mean Green Premium, has no control of the video feed it receives. I thought ASU was fine, but FIU must have had a student working their camera as he constantly lost the ball and showed much more of their cheerleaders than the game itself. Come to think of it that might have been a plus. I also watched several road BB games on it, and I feel it is worth the price as long as you go in understanding their limitations. Also enjoyed the press conferences and the the Insider to keep current.

My wife and I attended the 1994 game in Columbia ( NT's first back into D-1). I disagree that they are a BB only school as they had great tailgating with RVs' arriving days before the game. Columbia had "Downtown Tigerfest" nearly all day pregame and the campus was alive with pregame activity. As for parking, we did not have to pay, but like a great deal of their fans we parked out in the hinterlands from the stadium and followed the masses at least two miles on foot up the median of a boulevard. Great fan support for a not so great D-1 opening (0-28 as I recall).

I realize this staff had no connection to the cause of forfeiting the five schlarships due to NCAA rules, but why do we continue to have flunk outs ( Gillmore), no shows ( Horton), and players who just hang it up (Fentriss) ? It seems that we continue to have much more than our share of these which it seems could be solved by more thorough checks during the recruiting process.

Practice Notes, Riley Won't Be Backup Qb
DallasGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Could be that not taking a redshirt this year gives him a redshirt year to transfer and still have 3 years of eligiblity left. May indicate that both father and son are gone if no stadium is built. -
I Will Do My Legends Article On Hayden Fry!
DallasGreen replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
One of my favorite memories of Coach Fry was on Thursday before the TN game at the Pep Rally near Clark Hall. NT had just the week before lost a heartbraker at Miss. St. in which its top two QBs Kenny Washington and Ken Smith both went down. The only QB available was an unknown transfer from Nebraska named Glen Ray. As I was lamenting what a terrible situation this was to be going into the TN game, Coach Fry looked me dead in the eyes and said " things are not always as they appear". Somewhere I think I still have my unused ticket to that game in Knoxville. From that point on I never underestimated Coach Fry's ability to motivate a team. If there was a big game on the line, I would rather have had him on the sidelines than any coach in America at the time. -
I have never seen a much poorer effort by a team than our last visit to UT. It was obvious that our players just wanted to get back on the bus ASAP. I know these games have the guarantees that are the lifeblood of the program, but do they do more harm than good? I maintain college FB is still a game where emotion can overcome a talent gap at least for a while, but if you are not ready to compete when you tee it up, why be there? Dodge talks of these games as "opportunites". Now is the time to show some fight and competitivness unlike @ OU, ARK, and Troy last year. I was at all three and we were never ever in the hunt from the kick off. My roadies this year will be Rice, ULM, and maybe the Muts. I have seen enough of these$$$$ games, but I hope TD can truly begin to back these up as " opportunities" not blow outs. You do have to admire Schnelly's spunk and many times UT's arrogance can be more of a detriment than anything the opponent brings. That's why they play the game!!

Breaking News -- 2007 Recuit Leaves Program
DallasGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe he left to try to find those OU receivers since it has probably taken a year for him to catch up to them. Or maybe he thought LA Tech would give him a better chance for a record for bobled punt returns inside the five yard line and establish a new NCAA category for "assists" on safetys. -

Practice on August 28th, 29th, and 30th? Does Vitto not realize that KSU is scheduled for 8/30, and NT might want to get up there before game day?

An Overdose Of Watered-down College Football Bowl Games
DallasGreen replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
There was a time that in the same year (late 70s) that North Texas was ranked in the top 25 for a short period in both basketball and football. This was near the time that we were snubbed for a Sun Bowl bid which was one of the contributing factors to Coach Fry leaving North Texas in frustration with the bowl situation. Other than golf in the 50's I can never remember North Texas having that high a national rating in any sport. I do agree with the poster's premise that when teams like Troy are snubbed by bowl selection committees for 6th and 8th place teams from other conferences there is still an injustice. -
The E portion for EXES is scheduled to be completely removed from all references by 1/1/09---so don't get used to it.

Smu Practices Are Open To The Public!
DallasGreen replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
If you have not learned to be an "SMU hater" you will in time I can assure you of that if you continue to support UNT. Even at last week's cookout our A.D. said to the effect that any success we might have is the metroplex privates' worst nightmare. TCU won't consider playing us but is perfectly happy to schedule SFA, while SMU schedules Texas State @ San Marcos waiting 6 years to face us on the field when they figure June Jones will have all his personnel locked in and loaded. The next time we are blocked for either MWC or CUSA entrance by either of these "self titled FB giants" let's see how you feel. When you are looked down upon or talked down to in a business meeting and said to be from "NTSU" or that "little teachers, commuter community college up at far away Denton", let's see how you feel. Finally as D magazine once proudly proclaimed "If you want to be rich and powerful in Dallas----you should have gone to SMU". Guess to some extent it is true--they've got $20,000,000. to revamp a program with a two million dollar per year nationally known coach, and a facility that we can only envy. They just don't have the fortitude of our fans who have had to struggle so hard to achieve .
