I can't wait to see Brock Berglund-- the way he is portrayed on here he surely will come out with a "S" on his chest and a cape. How many years since he played? Has he EVER taken a D-1 snap? If he viewed the old NU QB, Buffalo H.C., and K.U. head coach as a maker of great QBs--can this guy have much upstairs?? Sure bet that he won't graduate ahead of time and have a master's before he leaves here like the present QB.

I'm glad someone else noticed and had the guts to say the obvious. Sat. was a very mediocre ULaLa team and to lose to UTA and AL- Huntsville is just utterly embarrassing. Tony Mitchell may be an NBA legend in his own mind, but he is the only one that believes it. This may be the most overhyped team in any UNT sport ever! Mitchell had 5 fouls and 3 points Sat., but one was a breakaway slam dunk so I guess that's suppossed to make up for zero assists and little rebounding for his size as well as zero follow ups made.

What Canales did with so little those 5 games was truly amazing. It's like he is being muzzled under McCarney and not allowed to do what he does best with the offense. He is told that the philosophy is run first and be conservative. His game plan against FAU in Dodge's last year was absolutely brilliant. Both games against KSU he gave them all they could handle offensively. What most impressed me was the way he campaigned for the H.C. job at UNT. If we lost Mac I think Canales is the logical choice. I have never seen the fire in Mac's team that Canales' team showed. Mac has plenty of fire himself but he must transmit that to his players. I saw a defense that quit at times, receivers give up on routes, and way too many fair catches this past year. That is not Canales style. It comes from the top.

Additional information on UNT Target Charles Walker
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I once heard Mack Brown say that UT with endowed scholarships could virtually get any blue chipper they wanted, but the haunting question was were they playing just as well in H.S. as they ever would? No one knows if a 4 or 5 star converts to the speed and size of the college game. BTW Mack answered that question when a UT booster asked why he had not looked at Brandon Kennedy.- 14 replies

It is amazing the negativity on this board toward the Florida C-USA schools. Look at our record against them--not exactly dominant huh? They bring in a combined area of nearly 5 million people, and we whine about losing Tulane? Personally I'll take Middle over ECU as well as they bring the Nashville market. Quickly where is ECU located? Has anyone ever been there? FAU's stadium is just as nice as ours , and they definitely had the hottest cheerleaders in the SBC. Take a closer look at the Florida schools and think about the success every Florida start up has had. I think FAU and MTSU for Tulane and ECU improved C-USA. Now Tulsa would be a great loss. Before they consider the MAC they need to look and see how OHIO, Central Michigan, and Kent State does against the SBC in bowls. Arky State will annihilate the Golden flashes in Mobile!!!

I think it is interesting that your photo shows the most overrated athlete in North Texas history 5 fouls and 3 points against a very mediocre ULaLa team. NBA??? HaHaHa Legend in his own mind--you betcha
-
SMU will go indy before agreeing to be in a league with North Texas

Until ODU and Charlotte are ready for D-1 I see La Tech in the East not the west

Central Florida is already long gone. So. Miss and Marshall don't have tv markets that bowl anyone over. I agree with Harry that FAU is a great addition over Tulane and MTSU is an able replacement for East Carolina. With the additions in the Big East and the defections, I can't see that their tv contract will be that much better than C-USA. With 2014 coming there will be four 14 team "super conferences"- Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10, and SEC. There won't be that much difference in any of the rest of the conferences from a strength standpoint. It is always amusing when people on this board knock schools that they have never even visited. I have visited FAU several times and they are doing it right with a beautiful new stadium and a great campus with a formidable talent base. Much more committed than Tulane. As for MTSU they are already kicking our butt and going bowling. I think if we have other defections in the East ULaLa is a great addition and a fun place for a "roadie". If we were to lose UTEP to MWC New Mexico State was probably our most long time rival before its move to the WAC and would ablely replace UTEP.
-
Sorry Emmitt but point 4 is flat out wrong--FAU brought on a new stadium very comparable to ours a few months later. It helped them about as much as Apogee did for us.

Don't forget that Teagarden was also coming around as a receiver before his injury. -
Sounds Like We're Losing Another C-USA Member
DallasGreen replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Okay I will be the first to call you crazy. All these schools with the exception of UTEP are driveable. If you lose UTEP you pick up NMSU who was probably the most long time rival we've had. I don't think USM or UAB bring anything to the table for BE. MWC is attractive if Boise and SDSU return, which may now be their best alternative. There will eventually be four 14 school conferences--Big 10, Big 12, SE, and PAC 10. What conferences that are left after that won't be a great deal different from each other. All you FAU haters have obviously never been to Boca Raton--big $$ fans, new stadium very comparable to ours, access to Miami and Palm Beach markets, and a good student fan base. I personally don't see why C-USA picked FIU over them. -
Thoroughly agree 5 to 7 years to respectability is unacceptable. We should see immediate progress in 2013. I'll give you GA, but no one else on the schedule is close to LSU and KSU, both of whom we played respectably against. Also don't tell me that Bowling Green or Ohio could stay on the same field as U of H. MUCH easier schedule in 2013 but must show some tenacity on defense and consistency on offense. Turn Canales loose and don't play cloud of dust, not to lose football. Run some "exotics", go on 4th and one, get taller and faster DBs, have some hitters on defense, and some consistent blockers on the O Line. In other words Coach Mac don't just talk a good game translate it to your players and coaches. The talent gap is smaller in 2013--results on the field need to reflect that and can with this schedule.

Derek Thompson thanks UNT fans for their support
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I thought although DT was wild high for some reason this year compared to last a lot had to do with his WRs especially after Chancellor was lost. Many times I saw receivers quit on routes that if they keep running the pass would have been perfect. DT doesn't play defense and our secondary was slow, short, gave way too much cushion, and really never hit that well. It seems as was the case at WKU when something bad happened (DT int) that the defense would run up a white flag rather than gutting it up. I saw this happen time after time late in the year. It almost even happened at FAU. As in most college programs the QB gets way too much adoration for the team's success, and conversely way too much criticism for its failure. You certainly can't point a finger to any one player or coach here. There were plenty of shortcomings in several areas. The one that surprised me most was lack of tenacity by the D on 3rd and 4th downs all year long. -
Let me know when you have a Tony Mitchell

WANTED: Playmakers, One Game Only
DallasGreen replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Same can be said for Delgado. These two as well as tight ends have definitely not been playmakers. -
It could be worse we still have Tulsa and they are definitely the class team of the new CUSA, and the closeness of UTSA, Tulane, LA Tech, UTEP,Rice, and Tulsa are also a plus. That being said 2013 is time to get it going and for Mac to put his best players on the field rather than redshirting in droves. We can't afford a four year building program. It's time to show up in 2013 or there need to be some big shake ups in recruiting, administration, and dare I say coaching. After three years there is no excuse for being the smallest and by far the slowest team in D-1 FB!!!
-
Agree but I thought both would be back for spring and for fall camp. Please clarify Harry.
-
DT constantly catches the heat. He is in an impossible situation. His best receiver is gone. His best RB is gone. If you saw McNulty's start last year against Tulsa you would not want to see him on the field again. Maybe Berglund is the great hope, but given the same circumstances I don't see him doing much better. Neither he or DT play defense, and that is where the problem lies. Just like a Dodge team Mac's D quit totally on him at the end of ULM game. This can't keep happening. Even Troy Aikman @ QB can't overcome a porous secondary and inconsistent D Line play. Personally I would still prefer a kid with character and effort like DT to a journeyman w/o loyalty to any program like Berglund. But that's just me. With Chancellor and Jimmerson back it will be even more obvious that defense, w/o speed height, or ability to cover is the real problem with this team.

Hows about we take some risks the last two weeks?
DallasGreen replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
Chico can come up with some great game plans ---see KSU this year and @ FAU 3 years ago. Schnelly did not even know who James Hamilton was until half and he had over 200 yards from the Wild Eagle spot. He could not understand how we continued to run so well when Dunbar was being double teamed. Just let Chico do his thing like when he was interim and you'll see a whole new gun slinging offense. Come on Mac let your OC run his own show!!! -
There is no discussion when it comes to SMU just class warfare!!!
-
Wait till UT knocks off a hugely overrated Ft. W. Frog and then plays as well as UNT did against KSU w/o K/O return for TD and blocked field goal. Then you can judge UT vs. A$M
-
Two more to really make this year memorable. Bring two victories home seniors and you will forever have a great memory of your part in building this program. GO SRS.!! GMG!!

The 10 Best Small Towns In America: Denton, Texas
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Also has done nothing to damage its past award as the sorriest sports town in America. If Apogee was in Lewisville it would be packed every week.
