CUSA video died with Tulane, but at least NT was on.
-
This info came from our alumni association rep who heads development at NCTCC She attended, and I have no reason to doubt her validity. She was there and said that the mayor of Gainesville (a TT alum) was even wearing green, A member of our UNT Foundation BOD is mayor of Sanger. I have no doubt that we could have similar success there as well among the many growing Denton County suburbs. You may not get the big bucks of DFW, but some solid grass roots fan support is a near certainty.

Tulane QB not impressed with C-USA teams
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Tulane beat the much vaunted mighty Mustangs of SMU in 2012. According to DMN this is the equivalent of A$Ms victory over AL. Never question one who has reached the heights of conquering the 'Stangs. That being said I' have made my reservations to be in N.O. when we kick their butts in our C-USA opener! -
Most CEOs in that position would be given the option of moving the company's location. That is not an option for ours. What can be done is to realize your real market base and appeal to it. Denton County is exploding with growth as well as the easily accessible DFW northern suburbs. Forget the city of Denton and reach out to new areas that may prove receptive. I just heard that a Coaches Caravan to Gainesville drew a larger reception than any of the others announced and vigorously promoted.

Top five-and-a-half things I'm looking forward to this year
DallasGreen replied to aztecskin's topic in Mean Green Football
1)Seeing DT watch you all eat crow 2)Six home games-three with Texas schools 3)A return trip to N.O. to open inagural season in C-USA- have air and hotel already set 4)Partying in the club seats as we exceed expectations and make Apogee a tough road site for ANY opponent 5.5)Holding back my anticipation for the 2014 season when the hated Southern Money U visits Apogee for the first time. -
TU watching closely as schools start transition from C-USA to AAC
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Like Houston and Tulane I feel Tulsa is making a bad move to the AAC. SMU is only avoiding being in a league with us by moving. East Carolina fits well but the others are really rolling the dice. I like C-USA West even w/o Tulsa, but it would have been much better with them.- 9 replies

Where'd you play high school football and when?
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Played guard for Richardson High School in 1963 & 1964. We were 7-3 as a junior and 6-4 as a senior. Garland under Chuck Curtis won state both years. Billy Ray Atkins, a little All American at ACC was Head Coach. My line coach was Charlie Broom who later became the first head coach at Richardson Pierce. We had scholarship players from my senior team go to A & M, Arkansas,Texas Tech, New Mexico State (2), and North Texas(3). I had a feeler from Cincinnati but really wanted UNT who felt I did not have a big enough frame. Watching my high school teammates play in college that freshmen year was very difficult.- 61 replies

Bingo. Just imagine a BB who hasn't even taken a D-1 snap against GA. DT has seen the likes of AL. LSU, & KSU. BB would freak at the bright lights and crowds. He will be a factor in 2014, but not because of his 2013 experience gain. We need to produce now and only DT gives us that chance. With a Corp of healthy, talented receivers and an experienced returning O line as well as 3 to 4 deep @ RB DT suddenly becomes a much more effective option. Imagine that. If we turn to BB during 2013 the season is lost and we have a five year rebuilding program post Dodge. We can't afford to wait till then to win!

Did the same this weekend. See you at the pre and post game party that is the Big Easy

We have a rival that meets the criteria if you count games played post Doak Walker era. They are known as Southern Money University---- Methodism is far removed from their athletics. A 2014 series opens a string of games that should be more important for recognition than any CUSA game we will ever play. My fear is that players and coaches will underestimate the importance of each game in the SMU series.

RICE beat the mighty Mustangs of SMU. That is the mark of a potential national champion. If you don't think so just read the Dallas News!! Fear RICE because they beat SMU same goes for Tulane!
-
Today RV said Mean Green has been listed in the top ten of most recognized team names by a prominent publication just this week. As for anyone who says NTSU, they are either old or stupid as we have been UNT for nearly a quarter of a century.

Southern Miss looking for new athletic director (RV?)
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
RV addressed the UNT Foundation at noon today and assured us that he is not going anywhere even though you may see in tomorrow's news that he is being considered for USM. Outside of Hayden Fry who only held the AD position so we could pay him two salaries to afford him, RV has done more than any AD in NT history. Look at the A. D.s of the past and name one any better. -
KSU last year was best road game against a ranked team I have seen in decades, but I have to opt for Tulane because of venue and we have a shot at a win there.
-
Fear Tulane as one of those wins was against the mighty SMU Mustangs. The 'Stangs are the anointed metroplex idols by DMNS and anyone who has even competed with them much less beat them should be held in GREAT AWE!!

UNT Board increases student fees for athletics
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Why record new enrollments then if this is such a problem? I paid considerably more in fees that were were just labeled FEES @ UT in early 2000s.for my two sons. We fear our students way too much. Alums have done their part with amounts paid for club seats, season tickets, MGC, and out right donations. We ask extremely little from the students for what they are given in return. I agree the heat should be turned up on the admins to support what it takes to compete at least with mid majors a la U of H. -
UNT Board increases student fees for athletics
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Amen Notice that initially $3. student fee had to be reduced to get $10. Dedicated Athletic Fee. This means initially increase was only $7. per semester hour vs. $20. @ UTSA & TS@SM. How can we compete when we continually fear a student vote? Other great universities such as the two land grant schools arbitrarily increase ANY fee they want and students who don't agree don't let the door hit them in the behind as they exit. I want to be the best not necessarily the cheapest. The pub sought by being the cheapest actually serves to degrade our status to qualified students and attracts commuter parasites and JUCOs with no previous allegiance. Stadium bonds were called on 04/15 so someone got funds to retire these prematurely. Bond had been AA rated and were 5 percent tax free so they were a good investment. As I have been told by RV great athletic programs are built and maintained with donor funds and not by students, but we have gone to extremes to placate those now getting a Neiman Marcus education at a Walmart price.BE THE BEST. Let someone else be the cheapest. -
C-USA working on new bowl game in Boca Raton
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Then you must have never been outside of Denton, the most unfriendly town hosting two major colleges that even make it a town in the first place. Easily the most backward of all DFW metroplex cities!- 13 replies

1965 NT vs Tx.Tech Picadors Frosh' FB Game on YouTube
DallasGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I had three teammates from Richardson High School play in this game. QB you see is Greg Langeloh from RHS who would have given Steve Ramsey( later to be a frat brother of ours) a run for his money had Greg not been severely injured in a boating accident at Lake Lewisville. Unnoticed in this version is that NTSU sent less than 30 players while TT suited up in excess of 100. This team also beat Arkansas Frosh that same year and was the basis for '66-69 teams that may have been the best teams ever @NT. Pro draftees included Joe Greene, Cedric Hardeman, Ron Shanklin, Willie Parker, Steve Ramsey, Chuck Beatty, and others. -

C-USA working on new bowl game in Boca Raton
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Laugh all you want, but this is a beautiful modern campus with much more to offer than Dade County. Palm Beach and Boca Raton areas are very affluent and make little "d" look like the ghetto in comparison.- 13 replies

Now imagine those same two games with a QB who hasn't taken a snap in a real game in 3 years!
