Canales will be fired at the end of the year
DallasGreen replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
Why does no one question the play of Zachary Whitfield? All he did was flail his arms on that first TD. No attempt to knock it down or go up with the receiver. If he is as fast as advertised, why has he never ever run anybody down after he blows his coverage? -
The Official Ball State Game Score Prediction Thread

Ball State 56 NT 6 Can't overcome the hangover from a very winnable Ohio game and phone it in for the year. -
Brett Vito: UNT again can’t capitalize on opportunity
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If the defense was tired they need to get in better shape! No heat and no tired excuses! -
I'm going to agree with Ms. Schilleci on this
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
BB played no opposition in HS. Went to a down program in KU. He has never played a down of D-1 football in 3 years. The coaches say he makes bad on the field decisions in practice so they don't trust him in a game. Bring DW on slowly, but forget about BB and let him do what he does best. Leave programs and ride on tainted HS press clippings! -
I'm in CO, How do you submit a question? Seems they keep this a big secret and carefully screen the ones chosen. See you Sat. Hope with better results as Ohio was a very winnable game.

O-Line is way overrated poor run blocking and coaches must know that to try a FG on 4th and one with the inconsistency our FG kickers have already shown. Ball State though not great is better than Ohio. I am still not impressed by the MAC!

The QB did not give up a 75 yard TD on the game's first play. The QB did not play on the defensive line that was repeatedly slashed on runs where Ohio backs slashed through like a knife through hot butter. The secondary particularly Zac Whitfield flailed their arms rather than knocking down passes. When the score was tied was the time to really step it up, Trice did with the int but his fumble was a real deflator. The defense was never able to hold Ohio's offense after that until they were deep in the red zone. BTW why can't that great o- line run block? They may be great in avoiding sacks, but sometimes the backs look like there on their own! Very winnable game, poor game planning, way too conservative. Should have at least seen Williams in spots to shake it up. Ohio was rattled when their QB jawed with official. We were as inconsistent in play calling and execution after the tie as I have ever seen in 50 years+ of NT football. INT by DT was a 14 point swing!

Thoughts after week 1 of the college football season
DallasGreen replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
Got my wish on first SMU game vs. TT now let Montana State pull a real shocker (since SMU was too scared to play Baylor). TCU and A$M will take their measure of the ponies to finish OOC play. Wow sweet it is! -
Thanks for your support. The herd looked very impressive in the first week!

Both and those who stay outside the stadium should be arrested for loitering, and id's checked as well. If they choose to make it a party during the game throw them in jail. Enforce this so we can have a real college atmosphere or let them go toot their horns elsewhere.

Spend campus police time checking for minor consumption and ticketing those loitering on the hill after kickoff. Good use of police time for those deadbeats who refuse to come into the stadium!

This is just another example of Dallas beginning to realize the potential of a public university. Too bad that in one hundred years the citizens of little"d" never have realized that their universities give them viability. Best example is Collins Stadium on Loop 288. This would never had been built if there was the co partnering that most real college towns have with their universities.

Very simple-- DT gives us the best opportunity to win. That's all any coach will tell you he can do! For all the ducks, etc. that many of you choose to thrive on , remember that someone has to be under center against UGA. Can you see Berglund, McNulty ,or even Williams in that environment? DT having played against LSU and KSU will not be fazed, and he will have receivers who can run their routes unlike after Brelan went down at MTSU. I have been saying since spring the team believes in him and the coaches believe in him. Get over it he is our QB, he won the competition. I'm sure he'll have a short leash, but I've seen a true frosh QB start at NT in Kenny Washington of Port Authur Lincoln under Coach Fry. It was not pretty no offense at all and we lost to pre death penalty SMU 7-6. Idaho is not Notre Dame, we will be fine with DT. Personally I do not fear the MAC like so many on this board. Stolich may be a better coach, but he beat a Monroe team that was very rusty after they foolishly sent their players home at winter break. I also recall Ball State was defeated in their bowl game. If the team and QB I saw at KSU shows up we will be just fine for the season. DT has done it before and gives us THE BEST OPPORTUNITY TO WIN until someone proves otherwise.

I hope everyone here has the opportunity to read the above article by Rick Gosselin in today's DMN. In this day of pampered stars who can't wait to get to the NFL, this young man made the most of his college scholarship both on the field and off. He understands that the NFL is nothing but a huge corporate business conglomeration. I always feel sorry for those who leave school early for the bright lights and limelight. Johnny Football is a prime example. Even worse is the plight of those who are injured or make it to the last cut and hang on to try just one more time. Not much is said about the 99+% of college players who never go to the NFL, but players like Nick Florence are the ones I admire as they use the scholarship that they were fortunate enough to receive to prepare them for life and still give great performances for their school. I try to implant this thought into every young athlete to whom I can. I experienced this on a personal level with my own son who was a very promising HS cornerback getting lots of major college looks. He completely blew his ACL from an illegal crack back block the fourth game of his senior year. At first he was very bitter at not getting the chance to play college football, but I was able to convince him that football is not a lifetime sport like golf, tennis, track, cross country, etc. I was always extremely proud of his performance on the football field, but I was even prouder when he walked across the stage to receive his B.S. from UT. All of us on here love college football, but I feel it is our obligation as devoted fans to remind these young men that they have been blessed with a tremendous opportunity by being awarded a college scholarship. Now make the most of it for your future. Enjoy the game for what it is and don't let the Siren's song of the NFL dominate the college experience. I would love to see the stats on just how many college players make it to the NFL and of those who do how many either suffer dabilating injuries or come out of it with no means of support after the NFL has used them like chattel. I am glad that Nick Florence sees the real picture. I wish many others would see it as well before they become fodder for the big business that is the NFL.

Idaho will be ready and physical. Can we be just as ready? Lose this game and the next two will be all that much easier to lose. We can win all three. The MAC is not the great conference this board tries to make it. But the Idaho game will set the tone for the whole season. Lose it and we can quit for the year. Today it is the most important game on the schedule.

Awh the shell game of the NFL. Reel them in before they complete their education. Pass out the big bucks that their agents will lap up like hungry wolves. Convince them about " the speed of the game" the limelight that has shined upon them. Don't dare let them know how much the billionaire owners are making out of their toil, and keep those mindless sheep coming who shell out $70 . to just park and pay homage to the thieves that are the owners of NFL franchises. Jerry's World is a shrine to a scoundrel who cares absolutely nothing about anyone other than himself. To those who have such blind loyalty to the " home" NFL team, ask yourself how quickly the franchise would move( Dallas Texans, I.e. KC Chiefs) if the grass looked greener elsewhere. Look at the UFL, WFL,etc. and tell me players have loyalty to any city or team. It's big business and the sheep who follow it might as well be rooting for GM to pay a dividend. To hell with the NFL and all it represents--modern slavery and elitism at it's finest. Only the NBA is worse. I pity the young men who throw themselves to these jackals at such an early age.

Interesting Derek Thompson UNT Factoid courtesy Eric Capper
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I saw him play at Troy, and he took the worst physical beating of any QB I have ever seen. Yet to my wife and I's amazment he got up after every one of those blasts. He convinced me that he was one tough cookie. Riley Dodge would have been out of the game in the first quater had he ever had to play with Vizza's O-Lines.- 29 replies

We all know Grey Eagle is a closet Mustang fan. I say 2014=total warfare with no quarter given. Any NT fan with ANY knowledge of what has taken place between these two schools, knows this series represents much more than football games. I will have an extra club seat for any of these games as my wife will not attend with me as my unadulterated despise of everything on the Hilltop embarrasses her, but after all she is from Baylor.

UNT non-conference opponent Ohio picked to win MAC East
DallasGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We will be 3-1 Do not fear the MAC -
If you go by his past history he'll pick up his toys and peddle his wares elsewhere.

The partially blocked field goal in the early 2nd half was also a killer. Yet DT proved that he can be very effective with the right game plan and receivers who run out their routes. Brelan Chancellor is no Ivan Delgado.

Tell 'em like it is Emmitt. SMU IS the "Evil Empire". Their history of ridicule of NT means the start of the 2014 series is the first battle of a scorched earth war that Atilla, the Hun, would even cringe at such a first strike capability.
