QB for NTs last bowl win, only NTQB ever to beat Troy in Troy, showed remarkable toughness in bowl game being out only one play with twisted knee, and took Georgia to fourth quarter before finally succumbing

A Thanksgiving weekend game against an opponent who has never been of general interest makes 5K seem generous. We are the only school where all students run home to mama for the full length of any holiday. Does not bother any of P4 and that’s a reason we will never make it to that level.

Graham Harrell made Mason Fine. Look what his “ iddy biddy” QB did his last two years w/o Harrell’s coaching——losses to Charlotte, ODU among others as I believe we even had a losing record his last year. I know that the last pass he threw for NT was a pick six. IMHO one of the most overrated players in NT history.

SMU already has published dates for all their games why is it so hard for us to let people make plans?

Why would SMU give up nine years of tv revenue to get into a conference that is barely P5 and has the two most noteworthy members ( Clemson & FSU) trying to leave? They have sure not upgraded their ooc schedule by playing Houston Christian and East Texas A& M

Hayden Fry was the AD only because that was the only way we could pay his worth He hated the AD job and was going HC only his last year. The two jobs do not lend themselves to a combination. They should both be mutually exclusive. We have passed on some good ADs among them Steve Sloan, Bill Blakeley applied, RV accomplished some things never before dreamed of at North Texas, and Corky Nelson managed to keep football from being dropped.

Fry beat SMU by 2 tds in TX Stadium in ‘76. Only win EVER in Dallas for NT over ‘Stangs. Fry lost 6-7 in first outing against SMU in TX Stadium. Extra point looked good to me but Dallas refs though otherwise.

Corky Nelson was in 1AA about ‘83. Hayden’s were in ‘76 ( biggest guarantee NT ever got. Darrell Royal said if we were good enough to play we were good enough to split the gate. Also nice that President of UT was Loraine Rogers an NT alum). Earl Campbell beat us in ‘76 not UT (Miss. State clipped our best defensive player out of bounds and put him out for UT game). Jordan Case was QB for second Fry game against UT( about ‘79). We ran a reverse with a pass at the end of the play. The UT DB was soo confused that he tripped over his own feet trying to get back and a floater of a pass got caught at the one. Both UT games with Fry were thrillers. People who think we should have stayed in Missouri Valley did not know that the expansion committee in that league met secretly and added Indiana State and Illinois State when Fry wanted to add Southern Miss. We had the votes to get into SWC but TCU & SMU LOBBIED to keep us out. I was in NT President’s box for Corky’s game. UT Presidents box was right next to us. The UT President was profusely sweating when we were nine points up going into fourth quarter. Only time I ever saw UT students allowed around the end zone and on the field. The refs could not tell where the end line of the end zone was and called a TD even though they could not tell if receiver was in or out. Maybe the best job of scouting and coaching I have ever seen and we had 1AA limits on number of players which really hurt us in fourth quarter when defense was really tired.

Seems we continue the injury bug especially at RB. Are we continually failing to beef them up to take the punishment that a RB gets.

All portal players are prima Donna’s that are legends in their own minds. Chandler Morris for one is damaged goods that UVA will never recover what they shelled out for him.

It only took four donors to build Ford Stadium. SMU has unlimited $$$$ to build or buy anything they want. Always best team money can buy.

Divisional games we played in FCS generated a lot of excitement Nevada-Reno, ULM, and Marshall all became FBS. The fact that you usually had to win your conference to be invited gave conference championships more meaning. That is the only thing I like about present set up. A four team playoff was merely a popularity contest and never crowned a true National Champion.

Basketball is irrelevant. Football drives the bus. Lose it and your entire athletic department quickly craters.

We will soon only have 3 twelve to fifteen team conferences that can continue NIL and transfer portal. Need to cut our losses and head back to FCS. Students, town, and school have no respect by FBS and rightly so.

We need another in state rival to complement UTSA Don’t trash Charlotte until you have been there. They are great fans and students who strongly support athletics. Town is banking center of the south. Average age of a resident is well under 40.

Time differential is disadvantage of PAC-we we’re invited a decade ago and turned down the offer for this reason

You can have that fan base just go back to FCS where Denton and the admins are more “comfortable “

You are entirely correct I was just glad to see us get it in. The goal line stand by Army was particularly embarrassing

I have always felt only 50 schools can remain playing D-1 football. What they don’t address is football drives the bus for all the other sports so eventually the result is termination of athletic programs at all Group of 5 schools..

Teachers and musicians offer nothing after leaving. Soliciting them or commuters is wasted effort
