  1. I see it this way: Vizza has a right to go anywhere he wants, whenever he wants. Sure there are questions of loyalty etc, but it is not like we are talking about war here. He is leaving one school to go to another because he wants to play football on a better team. The guy invested two years into this team/school/program. I don't think he was a quitter. He didn't leave mid-season or anything, like some guys did. Or in spring practice. He left with two months before everyone gets together for practice, with two guys left to fill his place. One of those guys has been in the system since he was little. Also, it really is not a big deal for the one guy to live off campus. It is not like that means he is forever separated from the team. Just because he wasn't good buddies with everyone doesn't mean he couldn't make a good QB or be a leader. Sure, it can help in a way, but what really inspires guys is seeing a dude that is resilient and dedicated, and shows determination.
  2. See? I don't see anything that says 06.
  3. haha beat you to the point! ntmescan.blogspot.com lol. yeah I think he thinks Dodge-y stinks.
  4. Nope. It wont. It is not about the offensive system. It is all about the execution of whatever system you implement. .. and the caliber of players. Look at Navy/Ga. Tech. They run the freakin' triple option. How out of date is that? Again: A good coach adapts the system to fit his players, regardless of overall philosophy. Look at Oklahoma, when they ad AP they used a power running game with two tight ends and a fullback. When they had Quintin Griffin who was more of a scat back, they used a shotgun formation with draws and such. Now they have a Heisman QB, so they run a complicated offense that takes advantage of his ability to read the Defense (that is not Florida) at UNT when we had a quality back (J Thomas) we used him by .. .not giving him touches and passing like crazy .. to other guys. And when we had a freshman stocked offense we ... hung our QB out to dry by not protecting him and forcing him to chose between guys that can't get open or the double covered guy.
  5. Hey this reminds me that we don't have our NCAA tourney appearance for 06(?) memorialized up there. Anyone know what is up with that shh?
  6. If you are Vizza you leave because you have some talent and the program is going nowhere. On top of that you have Riley (the Chosen One) ready to take your spot whether you deserve a demotion or not. Eh. It is a no win situation, I think.
  7. HAHAHA! I love the McDonalds vs Fine Dining comparison. That is funny.
  8. Bad things: the guy who has taken the most snaps as starter is leaving for (different colored) pastures it sends a bad signal to everyone about the state of the program. Good things: He is leaving with enough time for Riley (The Chosen One- at least by PapaDodge ) to get his shh in gear and take some reps. It gives EA enough time to get the rosters right for next year.
  9. Deserves? I don't know if I would say that. I know I said 'snubbed' and in doing so implied deservedness, but that was mostly for any Utah-leaning fans here. Really though, I see it this way: The Big 12 conference championship should be determined internally. They should drop the BCS ingredient. Determine the division champ by 1) record, 2) head to head, 3) common opponents 4) margin of victory. I don't really like number 4 though. Because there is always mitigating factors such as weather, injuries, location etc, maybe you go to another tie breaker like home record vs common opponents or away record vs c.o. I also like a point value for home wins vs away wins vs neutral site wins. It is necessary to add in the quirks of college football. I think polls should only be used to determine the seedings between the conference champions who will battle it out in a playoff to determine the national champ. You could also appease the bigger conferences who would have really good teams left out by adding a wild card team. This would shut up the current non-BCS guys because they would at least have a shot at winning the title. That is all any one can ask for. I said this before in the basketball boards: UNT basketball has a legit shot every year to win the whole (insert favorite big food item here). UNT football does not.
  10. Alright guys, I think it is pretty safe to say that becoming a National Brand is a few decades away. I think however, that we can become regionally known. That is very possible. I have argued this before here and on the ol' blog. We need a huge financial investment and/or a gimmick. We are in the midst of a gimmick attempt (Dodge-y) now we are hoping for a financial boost. That will be hard to come by given a) our record and the economy. It is very possible to own this [slang for excrement] conference. I am talking domination. Once we accomplish that baby-step, we can start seriously talking about graduating to a respectable conference. Hell, I would love to be snubbed for a national title for a few years, like Boise St and Utah have. Of course, after a few years of that, then I would be talking about joining the Big 12 or the Big Ten (11) ... but that is for the future.
  11. Hey I read somewhere that you missed me ... or that you were wondering "whatever happened to that one guy?" Anyway, in case you were wondering, I have been busy at work and enjoying the semester break. also, go Florida. But not Tebow ( I don't like that guy )
  12. Sad that Todd Dodge may have actually had it better at a high school than a D-1, er FBS school. Where is my whiskey?
  13. Definitely going. I hope we get a nice turnout tonight, though I doubt it will be too packed. The bad part about having a good chunk of home games during the holiday break is that you lose most of your fan base. Still is a little sad though, considering between the football and basketball teams, the latter has the best chance of winning a national title. Regardless, Me and my woman will be there. I am predicting a win, by 13, and free burgers.
  14. I think it is funny, and kind of sad that Red McCombs dropped 50 mill for the biz school at UT. We are having a debate on whether or not it will be possible to raise 30 mill from alumni. Another reminder of our station in life.
  15. Depends on his level of shame and if he didn't piss off/offend all the college coaches with his 'coaching is coaching' comment. I think UNT was the only school that would have taken a chance on him as head coach, but others were thinking he could have hacked it as a position coach a la Big Bill a coupla years ago. High school? Yeah, there is a market for a proven winning HS head coach with back to back to back to back NC's.
  16. I went to the basketball game. I am not going to the football game because of work, though. Football is more popular than basketball in this country, and in this region, and in this school. Thus, attendance will be higher for FB. Also, it is easier to plan and travel to 5 weekend games, than it is to go to 10- 15 weekday evening basketball games. I couldn't go to any BB games last season because of work. I am sure something similar happened to other people. Also we play alot of basketball games during the holiday break.. when no one is here.
  17. So by "all losses" you mean, 'all wins?' And by "negativity" you mean 'positive?' and by you are using "respect" as a euphemism for what, exactly? Translation: quotation marks aren't used for emphasis by people who know what they are doing. The "blog" of.. .quotation marks. A-hole-ness aside, Here is what I think. CliffNotes version: 2009 depends on this offseason, and we should take full advantage of the time we have.
  18. Lol. I like her defense: "This isn't me. I was drunk" Lol. Try that defense on your wife next time you hook up with a twenty-something year old chick. Somehow I don't think she would be as understanding as ol' Mr. Feldman is.
  19. We have a good team this year, and have had one for the last two or three. I hope we make the tourney this year. Can't wait.
  20. right after we sign 15 more receivers.
  21. lets do it!
  22. Whether or not the article is necessary is subjective. If you think UNT needs a kick in the a$$ to improve things, then yes, it is necessary. If you think the Vito is a die-hard venting a little, then yes it is necessary. If it is to just talk some mess, and stir up some old bitterness, then yes, it is ... for him. Dude will get page views, sell more papers, etc. but it won't help the university if that was his only goal. I don't pretend to care, though. I've talked about this before, so I'll just hit the highlights here: We are a third rate University prestige-wise. We need the current and former students to be successful in order to get people talking about WHY they were successful. The answer will then be: "I went to UNT" Get rich. Donate. Get involved.
  23. Well, that one furniture guy, made sure his donation went to the practice facility only if it met his demands. I am sure we could do the same, saying we will pledge our money when we get a new coach. Then the University can use that money to fund the buyout or whatever it wants. I think that is how it is done. Here is some reading about college coaches in an old article and how they are paid. Really, money talks. I am sure if we could rustle up enough cash-ola, we could do anything we wanted.
  24. I think that is how they do it at most schools, but its usually the AD that organizes it. or you could be the guy that starts firetodddodge.com and get donations there, and offer it up as one big 'donation' to the new head coach.
  25. You can't think I meant it like that. Of course the head coach is supposed to bring wins. Of course he is responsible for the whole of the program. RV didn't hire the dude for his special teams knowledge though. Yes, hiring Dodge inspired excitement, media coverage, hope, etc, but it was also made with the thinking that our offense needed major improvement. Look for yourself It was somewhere around 10 or 12 points per game there. Our defense was decent. The O kept putting the D in bad spots, with short fields to defend. That is why we got an offensive guy. Also, maybe you were hired for your clicking skills. lol
