Eh. Usually in the spread you have Man-beaters (lol that sounds dirty) and zone-beaters to the other or your wideouts read the coverage and adjust their routes accordingly. Putting guys in motion was a big concept of run and shoot offenses. The problem came when defenses started running zone-blitzes and messed up the reads. So what does that mean? Well, like I said before, an offense is an offense, and if KiDodge is having trouble making the reads that our offense requires of him, he is probably going to have a problem making the reads in offenses that require motion. For some insight into why some teams don't like to use motion read this. His third point on being too multiple is where you'll find it.
-
Like it has been mentioned before, I don't think motion is going to solve execution problems. Offense is offense and really there is not a whole lot of difference between them when you really look at it. We can have any kind of offensive philosophy and it will be successful when it is executed best. Now, after that the other challenge is getting your guys to want to run your offense. So, in that respect, running a more fun offense is beneficial. So you want to run something fun and teachable to get your guys to buy in and execute. This is why I don't mind our spread. Its fun and teachable (QB footwork is less in shotty). PapaDodge just has to get his guys to execute. Execution will alleviate some of those special teams mistakes etc. So, to sum it up for those who don't like to read: Motion is fine -- has its benefits (confuses the D) and drawbacks (requires more practice and precision). It is not the most pressing issue on this squad.

Which is why I need to grow a 'stache like his. However, let me call a time out here. (makes time out motion) Because I have been asked this and because kind of brought it up there, let me clarify somethings at the risk of ruining the (poor) joke. I have no rivalry with the dudes what write takeaknee. I read it. I comment on it. I joke about here cuz I (alone?) think its funny to talk like there is a rivalry when (clearly) there is none. Surely some of you understood this right? Also, I tried to make it obvious that I was making fun A) Keeping Dodge by comparing it to me retaining my Head Writer by drawing a comparison to the similar poor performance. You can also find gems on blind support, our incompetence, some people's switching to their 'other school', and comparing ourselves to Bigger Better Schools. So enjoy! Also, if Green P1 if you can italicize one of those Pleases that would be just totally awesome mmmk? Thaaanks. -

Well I don't respect him. Mostly because I don't have big name donors so I can't improve my Respect Holding Tank. Thus very little respect for anyone or anything. I mean if people would show more support for me and my endeavors I could probably afford to upgrade my facilities. Sure, I could 'improve' my content but I mean if you guys really loved me you would show me support content be damned. I mean I support my other alma blogger Takeaknee by reading the drivel and insider-only jokes put forth on the daily, yo. So why can't you be like me guys? Its really all about the fan base here guys. Sure Gizmodo and Deadspin put out page view- worthy stuff and whatnot but that DOES NOT MEAN A THING. With that said, I have retained my current writing staff (me) after his (my) stellar production of pageviews (like 25 at the most, at one time-- if I were to translate it into football wins it would be around one game a season). I figure it this is the best course of action. Its not like you can make money by spending money right guys? Right? -
What Kind Of Turnaround Will A New Coach Bring?
aztecskin replied to UNT Mean Green's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the Fire/Not Fire thing is settled. Those who are for running him out have tons of support in the L column. Those for keeping him have some support in the (lack of) cash department. I wonder what else we can do -- what new assistants can help with. That is the most feasible solution says uninformed me. -
Monday Morning Recap: What Up With That? Edition
aztecskin replied to Quoner's topic in Mean Green Football
So when you declare that there are factions n stuff you gotta list the members and break em down, yo. That reminds me: you know what we need? A bio page for all the posters. Not one we made ourselves tho. Where is the gmg.com stat dude? Get him on this. That way, when a n00b gets on the board he can check out aztecskin's bio page and see his best post ever, rivals, times Quoner talked mess about/to him, how often he self-promoted shamelessly/with shame, posting style, which faction he belongs to and which beaches he likes long walks on. I demand this or I will quit being a fan or whatever. (that is the way we get things done around here, right?) -
Nope. I don't even think there will be need for that long of a speech. How about 'Hey kid, how you gonna get laid with a 2-8 record? Lol, I'm kiddin, son. I know you aren't even thinking about considering that place. " Right. We are just going to have to wait for the new stadium. Can't compete on football quality with TV, TCU, SMU, and high school football as competitors. Can't compete on game experience while sitting on bird crap stained, hard seats with a poor sightlines. Even though tix are cheap we can't compete on price when the drive to Denton is perceived as taking a road trip. Also, its not like they make make out with a dude before you watch the game. That is a terrible reason. Sounds like he was looking for an excuse to get you off his case about buying season tickets already. Yeah. Cuz we are the only school that doesn't allow gays n stuff. They can't even have clubs or nuthin.

I say you go the passive-aggressive route. Also, if someone just put on their Memory Hat they would remember that this site got a ton of traffic when we were 1-0. I mean, come on, I can't believe Q had to spell it out. Wins=interest.
-
or 'our' You know, whichever. Also, Quoner is right: tee-shirts n stuff and something about having already complained and something else. Also, if someone somewhere already said something you're an idiot for thinking about saying it etc. So yeah. GE (go eagles!)

I thought it was going to be the Wells Fargo presents Darrell Dickey Field at Pourhouse Stadium featuring All-Pro Foundation Repair Seating. huh. guess I was misinformed by the [insert person I know here] and Minnesota? F- those guys. No one even knows where that is. At least our conference names is representative of our member teams. I mean -- shoot --- there is sun right? And like, we are in kind of an area where there is alot of sun and stuff. Like all of us are. Totally makes a ton of sense. So good job there. Unlike those losers in the Big Ten. Geez. I suppose they just don't like to count Minn and indiana because they suck all the time. Or maybe its because at least two teams are so awful every year that they are like a half a team. So they equal Ten teams each year. That must be it. So I apologize Big Ten (eleven).

Yes. This is a dumb thread. We sure do a lot of whining don't we?
-
Well the best of the best-- those with the most money or the most passion usually go to the best schools. Perhaps its cuz we are a Tier 2 school?

The Rank Simplicity Of Todd Dodge
aztecskin replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah I agree that we finesse runs sometimes. There are ways to power run ( and we do run some of those plays, with pulling guards etc ). Short yardage/ Your own endzone is the time to break out those plays-- not run options with your backup not-as-mobile-qb. But other than that we put up some nice garbage numbers no? LD ended up with 100+ yards. UNT= Tailback U ... of the Sunbelt? -
I dunno if he is as risky as hiring an a HS coach. I mean, TF has coached in D-1 programs since 97. (okay he took a break to do some Arena stuff)
-
If you go for it: 1) you show you believe in your team rather than just paying lip service 2) you gain some momentum 3) you put pressure on the other team 4) you excite the crowd (all ten of them) 5) you run some more clock 6) you rest your defense a little more Them's the positive reasons that you go for it. Here are the negatives: 1) you do believe your defense can stop them. 2) you are frustrated 3) you suck and don't know what else to do 4) you think your kicker is unna shank it. I don't like the thinking that if you get the first down all you get is a four more downs. The average offensive play averages something like 4 or 5 yards. The team is 1-4, at homecoming-- really was it really such a huge gamble? No. 'twasn't. And I see most people think the same thing. gmg.

So it was weird today. I got one of those see-and-says and one of them had a picture of a smart-person on it. When I pointed to it and pulled string this is what happened: "the Voice of Reason says: Riley is a redshirt freshman, and some people just have bad injury years." There was another picture there too. It was of an angry fan. Tried that one "the loser says: tight ends solve everything, and the backup quarterbacks are all awesome because they don't get ankle sprains" Like I said, it was weird.

Longing For The Day This Is An Issue For Us
aztecskin replied to SHOSS's topic in Mean Green Football
At the very least it would allow us to buy green pants. Maybe we could have 398 uni combos like Oregon. Or green pants. Or maybe put the diving eagle logo on the helmet cuz its so k00L. -
Fodder For The Pro- Aggressive Gameplan V Bama People
aztecskin replied to aztecskin's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, in RV's defense, Todge was an cfb assistant once upon a time. But I do agree with the staffing thing. I am sure RV mentioned something about it but Todge probably had that as a condition of signing on. Whether or not Dodgie not being capable of delegating and running non-white urban kids is the cause of the poor record is not for me to say [but sounds about right] I was more thinking of the unstoppable offense that can flummox the likes of Tennessee for 500+ yards. What I am saying is although he may not be a good head coach - is it possible that he is not even a good offensive coordinator? I thought he showed signs of improvement his first year. Maybe it was comparative improvement from that team that had two plays: throw it to JQ and run for no gain. It seems to me IMHO, that we have gotten even more conservative than that first year. I keep hearing excuses about not having big play guys etc. I watched that SC team play Smithson Valley for the State title. Carroll wasn't so much more talented than SV that it accounts for the differences in the two offenses. We have stopped being aggressive. SC threw it deep. We don't. Not with enough regularity or success to stretch the defense. I'll stop there because I don't wanna sound any more like the 'TEs will solve everything' crowd anymore than I already do. -
Fodder For The Pro- Aggressive Gameplan V Bama People
aztecskin replied to aztecskin's topic in Mean Green Football
Well I agree with the thinking that Todd Dodge and crew were vastly out coached that first year. It was to be expected: a high school coach with holdover talent vs an accomplished former defensive coordinator and championship winning head coach with BCS talent? I also know that there isn't any failsafe 'system' or formula for beating a favored, more talented team. There are strategies that could make it more likely-- however slight it might be. So I wouldn't call the passing game desperate or garbage. I think for a well-coached team (by all accounts that is what that App state team was- they were FCS title contenders every year) whose only disadvantage is the gap in talent it favors you to employ a more aggressive - and therefore risky - strategy. So if you are saying that UNT was not only disadvantaged talent-wise but also suffered from geniusHighSchoolCoachWhoIsNotCutOutForHeadCoachatThisLevel syndrome-- then you have a point. So in other news: Anyone think that maybe we meant to hire Gus Malzahn and instead got Dodge? Was it like the Manning--Ryan Leaf thing, where we got stuck with bust and Arkansas/Tulsa/Auburn got the stud HOFer? Wow. -
smartfootball.com. He talks about the Michigan-MSU game and whether or not they should have gone for two to win it. Its the link mid-way through the article--this one--that is interesting. I mostly agree with the go-for-broke-strategy, although I can see the reasoning behind playing it safe (injuries, embarrassment). I do think that the benefits outweigh any embarrassments and injuries more often than not. Some people argue that that Giants SB team was inspired by playing NE in that seemingly-meaningless season finale. I think it sends a message to the team that there are no off days or off games and that the coaching staff is always trying to win no matter what.

I have no allegiances in this game. Pro/Con time! Pro Smu: I like June Jones' offense I like the underdog Back when they weren't a rival (when I was in HS) I wanted SMU to return to relevance just cuz. I like their throwback look. Con SMU: Bunch a stuck up mutha ..... They have a pretty awesome stadium and I am jealous. Buncha stuck up mutha .... "Rival" that was too above us to let us play them for a while. Buncha stuck up mutha.... Pro TCU: They are a BCS buster. Texas in their name -which means they are more likable. Christian in their name -which is more inclusive than Methodist (and even more than SOUTHERN methodist) Purple is cool Con TCU: They have a pretty awesome stadium and I am jealous. I know two dudes that go their and they are both Douchers of the highest caliber. Buncha private school stuck up mutha .... I am starting not to like Ft Worth -and they are in FW so I am starting not to like them. They are scared of getting their asses whooped by the Mean Green* *not a guarantee So. Yeah. Go Horny Toads or whatever lame mascot they have. (its clearly not as awesome as a mean green eagle-- which I hear takes the form of a hawk and kills any upstart potential mascots whilst it frolics on the Denton campus)

7/10 times you throw it- nope. If you're at TTech, smoo, under Hal Mumme- yes. If you play at Oregon, WVU, Michigan - no. The argument that what you run in college will effect you in the pros? Joe Montana ran the Triple Option at Notre Dame. Big Ben ran the spread (they do alot of that at Pittsburgh but he also does the seven-step drop). Cutler ran the spread, 'Look at Harrell and VYoung and Alex Smith! They suck so the spread must suck for pros!' Nope. Maybe Harrell is too short and doesn't have a rocket arm? Maybe their is a pro-style bias holding him back? Maybe VYoung relied too much on out running the competition and wasn't much of a true quarterback to begin with? Maybe Alex Smith benefited from throwing to wide open, confused defenses in the MWC? I think you have more of an argument by saying that quarterbacks that don't play against NFL-caliber competition don't succeed like Montana said. 'They play great teams but not great players' etc. That's why I give some credence to the SEC-is-awsome- thinking. I'll leave you with why Tebow might not be a good pro. Not because he plays in the spread but because he is basically a fullback that tosses it to wide open speed guys. I don't buy the 'our wideouts suck' argument. Its more like "our qb can't get it there'

eh. you kinda hyped it. You got like three dudes riled up about about you harping on the ranking thing multiple times. On the rabble rouser scale I give you a 2/5.
