  1. I am hoping to see the tandem of Pierow and 2 Dollar Pistols on opposing teams. This game should be about brother against brother, man against woman, and in this case Husband Versus Wife. Keep your fingers crossed, the man with the Green Hair might actually be pretty good.
  2. A mystery in the draft, but has youth on his side. Silver, Jr has not been exposed to the elements of the GMG tailgating which means that he is still in possession of most of his brain cells along with a good portion of his physical capacities. I expect him to be a top draft pick if he responds to claim his spot.
  3. The veteran of the group, Scott will be looked to for leadership and knowledge. Probably not the fastest but would make a good runner on the pitch out. I look for Scott to go very low in the draft... and that is a good thing for a reverse draft.
  4. Coined the "Dubinator", JayDub is the producer of the Radio World's Smallest Sports Show but large on knowledge of the game. Winters has a quiet demeanor but a filthy temper so if the opposing team pushes him to the limit, he will unrath his vengeance on them. Should be great for either line.
  5. At first glance, Emmitt would appear to be the most athletic specimen of the bunch. Rumor has it that he enjoy grandaddy's cough syrup a little bit on the weekends so oposing teams will have to wish for a major hangover or liver shutdown to stop this potential offensive threat.
  6. Perry is a mystery to me. I would appreciate anyone filling this draft aficionado in on what he can do, his size, etc...
  7. There is a certain friendliness to Big Will and his inviting smile that will fool opposing players into thinking he is too nice to get nasty. Just wait until Will turns out to be the Booger Kennedy of the GMG Bowl.
  8. Sean may look like a computer geek... well, Sean might be a computer Geek; but he knows his sports. Probably the most knowledgable poster outside of Harry and LoRo, Sean will need to prove that he can convert off the field knowledge into on the field success.
  9. no specs yet, I met Hope for the first time last week and would line up on the field with her any day, lots of spunk and energy.. she will be a dark horse in the draft.
  10. Don't know her specs... My opnion is that Brooke will be a better player than most of the guys.
  11. 5"2", about a buck 'o' five, great speed and nice on the eyes.
  12. Height 6'1", Weight 215, slow speed but great drinker. Deadly attractive.
  13. Oh, and I forgot to give props to the band. They are huge now! The last time I went to a game... well they weren't there... but the time before THAT, they were on the other side of te court, behind the basketbal, and there were only about 10 of them. Now they have them by the student section (probably been that way for a couple of years, they just are never there when I go) and there are like 50 members. That is really great. One thing I would like to see out of them... Play that funky music White Boy. We have exactly one white player and judging from his crowd reaaction last night, Barnett seems to be a fan favorite. It would be great if they played that every time he went in. I could see people getting a kick out of that.
  14. First of all, Gak and Strange... thank you for being such die hard fans. I don't know that I will ever be back on a weekday like that as the traffic to get through Lewisville was absolutely horrible once again as suspected. By the time I actually got there, I was so whipped and pissed off; it was diificult to ever really get relaxed for the game. If I were the AD at NT, I would be very active in getting that interstate progress updated daily! It is costing us a lot of fans in my opinion. Now, off of my rant about traffic. Down to the game. That was the most students I have ever seen at a non-promoted game. I have seen close to a thousand Greeks show up for a game before but half of them leave at half time when the spirit contest is over. Last night, there did not appear to be any "event" to get them there, they were just there to see the team and most stuck around. Now, I am not going to lie to you, the fans above me were pissed off and rightly so. We had a 21 point lead at one point. We eventually lost that lead and trailed by 1 late in the game. Hey, sh!t happens... that is all fine and dandy; but at least call a time out to slow down the game. Yes, that is correct, in a 25-4 run to start off the second half, NT elected not to call even one time out. Even after we had lost the lead and Denver was looking to steal this game, JJ refused to call a time out. Hell, I don't think he called one the entire half. What kind of coaching is that? You lose a 21 point lead and your decision is to just "play your way out of it?" Last night could have really hurt future attendance. I don't know. I am motivated enough to come back on Monday as it is a holiday and I don't think the traffic will be that bad. But I don't think I would come to another weeknight game unless the team just goes on a terror. Hopefully the students that had their first Mean Green experience will not feel the same way and come back anyways. My guess is that a die hard basketball fan would have been pretty disgusted with the coaching last night but that is my opinion. On a positive note, the players seem to be coming around, I think our main problem is coaching. In the two games I have seen, we have led at half time. In both games we have come out absolutely flat in the second half. The same thing has happened on the road in the games I have listened to online. Maybe JJ should just not talk at halftime because it appears to do more damage than good. All and all, the game was fun. I was really glad to meet Strange, he is not that strange after all. Gak seemed to be relishing the student crowd like a proud parent. We have a few fans that need to attend "jeer" school 101. Screaming - "You suck!!!" or "Cheater" at the top of your lungs is not only classless, it is flat out stupid. Stick with the fun yet annoying cheers like "Boing Boing Boing" (that was grat by the way guys!!!) I was embarassed for the the moron that insisted on doing the rude screaming all night long but he is just a typical 18 year old kid trying his best to cheer on the team. Now for the icing on the cake.. I won the Outback dinner for 2 (a $45 value I might add) when some camera guy picked me as the face in the crowd for that. Hey, I am one happy camper about that! I will be back on Monday most likely. And I will be sitting with the students once again. I hope to see this section gain momentum, having them all in one space like that is awesome. And stop complaining about the space!!! It was just three years ago that student would be relegated to the upper deck and scattered around to wherever they want to be. Having them in the lower section in the corner right there is just perfect. If you want the section to be moves closer to center court, just grow it... they won't have a choice! Thanks for the friendliness last night. I did have fun despite the almost 2 hour drive to get there. I will be back on Monday most likely if the traffic cam looks clear. After that, see you on the 31st! Flag Football and then Mean Green basketball! Should be a blast!
  15. Well, I don't get into games for free like the two of you... and secondly, it would take me two hours to get there for a game. I don't mind doing that if I am assured that they have a chance at winning but they suck. The only bright spot is Shawnson Johnson and he is ineligible after this semester. And for you youngsters... the winning comes FIRST, then the attendance at NT. That is how it happened in football and that is how it will happen in basketball (if it ever does). Maybe other schools are different, but not NT. Get the students there and it will be ok but I would guess that no more than 500 show up to any games.
  16. That is about right - 4%, about 4% of the students are interested in basketball. Actually that is a little high, if 4% of the students were interested in basketball then there would be 1200 students at the games. This is Texas, football is king... basketball is something to do in the off season. Our basketball team is very bad right now. If they start to beat some Div I teams that are not from Pan America or do not have 90% of it's team either transferred or in jail... then... maybe then... people will care and show up and then the basketball board will start to get some action. Personally I post over there occasionally but it is mostly non-basketball related. It is a great place to escape from time to time as the people over there are actually knowledgable of sports (and all that implies).
  17. Ok folks, you know who you are... CMJ, Gak, Iron, the usual suspects, I will be listening to the SEMO game online and chatting. Game starts at 7:30 Central Time, join me if you would! Thanks! http://www.gomeangreen.com/board2/index.ph...=ST&f=2&t=11163
  18. Harry has the two links PINNED above.... I have it dialed up and the chat on, come on in and let's talk some hoops.
  19. Maybe we could get SI to name Fouts as the best place to watch a football game next No pics (of course) but here is the info from their site on Texas Hall:
  20. The whole arguement that a message board would effect a player is bogus (sorry Emmitt)... there are message boards for every div IA and dic IAA school in the nation and there are fans that talk about the games and the best chance of winning. If we didn't have an active message board than I would be worried about North Texas, if it was censored than I would be worried about the board. AS was given every opportunity to keep the job. Fact is, he is the 2nd best QB out there. The numbers prove that and there is nothing he can do about it. Just because someone wants there team to use the best player for the position does not make him a bad or good fan, just a fan. I hope AS does not have grandeur illusions about life at Grambling. When/If he gets there he will have to prove himself all over again and then he wil have to beat out the "Scott Hall" of that school. At least at NT he has achance to start his senot year, at Grambling he likely to never see the field again. Stupid mistake if he makes it.
  21. I am very Thankful for the job that Dickey has done. I have thanked him more times than I can count and I don't do it hiding behind a keyboard, I do it right to his face. I want him to be the coach that I tell the newer students about someday when I am telling them about my "good old days" and the great records/accomplishments that have have come about. I just hate that he is still in the bunker mentality. I think you should get in a bunker mentailty when you are actually in the bunker, when you are fighting for your life. Not when you are out of the war, out of the bunker. Coach Dickey is a local celebrity, he is treated well everywhere in town. He got a a round of applause from the whole bar I was at after the Troy State game when he rolled in there. He has the ability to be loved but everytime he belittles people like he has been doing an awful lot lately, it makes a lot of us raise that eyebrow and wonder why he is so bitter. He has job security, he is making a good living, he has complete control over the program, he has complete respect from the players, he is getting national recognition, and he has an administration that is sticking their necks out (along with the Board of Regents) to build him some facilities to keep up the momentum that he has helped to build. Finally, he does have fans that have been throgh all of this with him. He might not have been the most popular guy for the first three years, but that is what an 8-25 record will get you. In fact, it is the very thing that he is complaining about that allowed him to keep his job - lack of fan support. If there was more fan support, there would be a lot more money and a coach with an 8-25 record would have simply been let go.... (he was actually 8-30 before he turned it around midway through the next season). I don't know how a football guy that has grown up around coaching his whole life and played as a player could not understand why people were calling for his head back in mid 2001. But that is in the past now. He did turn it around and we are all proud of him and the players for doing it. Now why can't he just appreciate the fact that we all stuck around through those lean years just like he did? I appreciate and respect his tenacity that he showed and I think it i only fair that he respect our tenacity and patience and endurance that we have shown through these building years. He has had the opportunity to air it out here now, get it out of his system if you will, let's hope that we can all have a group hug and move on.... but then again, that is what I thought the contract extension and 100% pay increase was doing - basically saying, "you were right, we were wrong, keep up the good work".... For those of you that forgot why we were disgruntled at the time... here is a look at DD's first 3 and a half years: 1998-North Texas (Big West) 9/5 @ Oklahoma (5-6) L 9 37 9/12 vs. Texas Tech (7-5) L 0 30 @ Irving, TX 9/19 @ Arizona State (5-6) L 15 34 9/26 @ Texas A&M (11-3) L 9 28 10/10 @ *Boise State (6-5) W 21 13 10/17 vs. *Nevada (6-5) W 27 21 10/24 vs. Houston (3-8) L 9 31 10/31 vs. *Idaho (9-3) L 23 41 11/7 @ Kansas (4-7) L 14 23 11/14 @ *Utah State (3-8) L 27 28 11/21 vs. *New Mexico State (3-8) W 19 11 Final Record: 3-8-0 1999-North Texas (Big West) 9/2 vs. Nevada-Las Vegas (3-8) L 3 26 9/11 @ Louisiana State (3-8) L 0 52 9/18 @ Texas Tech (6-5) W 21 14 10/2 @ Baylor (1-10) L 10 23 10/9 vs. *Idaho (7-4) L 10 28 @ Pullman, WA 10/16 vs. *Boise State (10-3) W 17 10 10/23 vs. *Arkansas State (4-7) L 10 14 10/30 @ *Nevada (3-8) L 28 41 11/13 @ Texas Christian (8-4) L 3 27 11/20 @ *New Mexico State (6-5) L 9 22 11/27 vs. *Utah State (4-7) L 7 34 Final Record: 2-9-0 2000-North Texas (Big West) 8/31 vs. Baylor (2-9) L 7 20 9/9 @ Texas Tech (7-6) L 7 13 9/16 @ Nevada-Las Vegas (8-5) L 0 38 9/23 @ Kansas State (11-3) L 10 55 10/5 vs. Samford (non-IA) W 41 6 10/14 vs. *Utah State (5-6) L 12 17 10/21 @ *Boise State (10-2) L 0 59 10/28 @ Louisiana-Lafayette (1-10) W 13 0 11/4 vs. *Idaho (5-6) L 14 16 11/11 @ *Arkansas State (1-10) L 28 53 11/18 vs. *New Mexico State (3-8) W 30 23 Final Record: 3-8-0 2001-North Texas (Sun Belt) 9/1 vs. Texas Christian (6-6) L 5 19 9/8 @ Oklahoma (11-2) L 10 37 9/22 vs. Texas Tech (7-5) L 14 42 @ Irving, TX 9/29 @ South Florida (8-3) L 10 28 10/6 @ *Louisiana-Monroe (2-9) L 17 19 Overall Record when he was put on the "week by week" evaluation - 8 wins -30 losses. This is when it turned around... as soon as RV stated publicly that DD was on a "week to week" evaluation period, he went on to win every remaining conference game, lost to Troy State in his only slip up and lost to what should have been a top 25 team in Colorado State to end the season. If anyone should be a proponent of the Sun Belt it should be Coach Dickey! The Sun Belt has been just what the doctor ordered for this program, that is for sure! And LoRo, Jamel was brought to NT to play Special Teams and Defense. You know dang well that kids that play both sides of the ball at small schools are brought in for one reason or another. He practiced on the defensive side of the ball all through 2 a days and was slated to play special teams and defense here. Since we had nobody that could catch the ball or make things happen after catching the ball... and because Jamel showed "play maker" ability early on in his career at NT against OU, he was utilized on the offense. He wasn't just "utilized" on the offense, he was asked to learn a whole new position on the offense at WR. He was mostly a running back in High School, that is not what he is being played at here 95% of the time, when he is used that way such as that reverse, he does very well with it... he just can't catch the ball with consistency. 3 years later he has not matured at that position but rather taken a few steps back. That is why I think he would be best moved to a position back in the spots that we brought him in here to play. Some players show that they can adapt to their new position, i.e. Scott Hall his senior year in high school and his career at NT; others give it a try but never quite excel. I think that Jamel is too good of a player to not be out on the field, but his confidence and play making ability on the offensive side of the ball have simply not matured and even withered a bit this year and I just think that it couldn't hurt to try him on the deense during the Spring and see if we can't better utilize his talents than we are doing now. If that is quitting on a player than I don't know what to tell you, I guess we just disagree on what "quitting" is. Peace out, I am not trying to argue.. just engage in a conversation on why DD seems so miserable here everytime he gets near a mike. As posters and fans... We are constantly being warned about what we post on here because players and recruits read this board. We are wanred by the admins and also by the atheltic department. Why do the rules apply to the fans about watching what they say for the overall good of the program... but they do not apply to the head coach? Sounds like a major double standard to me.
  22. Tallk about revisionist, it is suggested that a player be moved back to the position he was given a ship for and that is quitting on him? Jeez, now that is a stretch! Buhahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! OMG, now THAT is officially a spin, somebody needs to rename His SELF as the official spin meister, how ironic.
  23. GT, that goes with the job and those select few that you mention are few and far between these days. I bet if you looked hard enouhg, you could find someone at OU that doesn't like Stoops. I know that 30% of the UT fans want to get rid of Mack and he has done nothing but win there. You don't hear him going around bashing fans on National tv or radio. As for the fans that don't support Dickey? I say, kill the with kindness, because "as is" all it does is fuel their fire every time he opens his mouth and bad mouths them. Finally, bringing the players into it is cowardly. Nobody has ever complined about the players, they have complained about the play caller. Those kids look up to him and listen to what he says like the Bible. I don't want them leaving UNT thinking that our alumni were against them at any moment. If he keeps preaching that, they will continue to believe that and probably want nothing to do with the school after they leave. Our Letermans Association is weak already, we are trying to instill PRIDE in the players and teach them to appreciate the fans and the school after graduation. You simply can't do that if you are constantly bringing up old sore spots and pouring salt into the wounds everytime a microphone is put in front of you. Surely you can see that nothing good can come out of his weekly tirades?
  24. Yes, I agree. Coach Dickey did turn it around... in the Sun Belt, which is ranked below three IAA conferences. If we had stayed in the Big west playing Boise, Nevada, and the like... I am not so sure we would have had this success but there is no way to know. The improvement that I have seen the most is his ability to win some OOC games now. Three years ago we would have lost to this bad Baylor team... in fact we did, three times. Now we can not only beat them but beat the crap out of them, Baylor them if you will. We also would have lost to Troy State, but now we beat them. We also would have lost to Cinci but now we beat them. One thing that I have noticed is his ability to call a game. He has learned on the job here, that is what we used to have to go through when we pay coaches less money. Now that our pay is raised I don't think we will ever have to go through that again. I just wish he would stop bashing the fans. I don't care if he is talking about one fan or 5,000 fans, it is totally inappropriate for him to be making those snide remarks about the fans of the school that is making him a fairly wealthy man. Dickey makes well over $200K a year, he should be thankful and courteous. I also wish that he would at least tell the truth if he wants to complain about us on UNT. Say that 3 years ago, the school had given up on him, not the players. Not one fan ever gave up on those players. But now it is a fabrication that everyone was out to get him and the players. That is a lie and an insult. I will cheer on the Mean Green until the day I die, I don't want anyone to accuse our fan base of being that bad. Like I said the first time, Dickey will be leaving here someday to go onto bigger and better things. Probably after next year. He has two choices. He can stop all of this nonsense and complaining and leave here a hero and a legend... like Hayden Fry did. Or he can go out with guns ablazing and leave here as yet another coach that could not contain his bitterness. I want the hero, come on coach... give me the hero. Instead of looking at the bad things from three years ago, start giving props to the fans that stuck through it. Look at the positives not the negatives. In turn we will look at your positives and ignore your negatives.
  25. Ok E-Bone, I will admit, there are negative fans at evert school. Yes, even at Oklahoma there are fans that will e-mail the coach and bitch that they didn't score enough against lowly North Texas. But I have NEVER seen their coach come out on ESPN and complain about it. If anything, he brags on and on about how great their fans are. Bad example? Ok, I will give you that. Let's look at La Tech, with the lowest athletic budget in IA (roughly $5 million), they get crap for state support, crap from alumni donations, and run the entire program off of student service fees, money games, and ticket sales. Their coach is making about half of what Dickey does. Coach Dickey was given a 100% raise this year - yes that is 100%, he doubled his salary and was given job stability for 5 years. Yet, even with this commitment he still complains. I am not asking him to sugar coat anything, only to play the good employee, stop lying about fans being against the players, and finally - he should start THANKING the fans that have supported the program, sustained it, and enabled him to make well over $220K a year for a cush Sun Belt gig. Dickey will leave here someday... it is inevitable. He can either leave as a legend like Hayden Fry or as a hated enemy like Matt Simon. Simon had a better overall record than Dickey during the same time period, he took a pretty mediocre IAA team and turned them into a Southland Champ, he got the attendance up to over a 19K average for that 1994 qualifying year, and he essentually moved us up to IA through his coaching. He then lost a bunch of money games and was run out of town (only to go on to win a Super Bowl as the running backs coach at Baltimore)... it is sad because if he had just been grateful for what he had here than he could have left as a solid hero in my book, instead he started making negative comments about the school and the fans; now he is hated. Dickey is getting cocky. His players are playing reckless. They are being penalized way too much. They are getting arrested. He is losing control of his mouth and of his team. It is not too late, he just needs to learn to let his work speak for itself. The more he complains about NT having bad fans, all that it will do is piss off the good fans. What does he expect to accomplish? Does he think it will motivate the bad fans to say, "you know what, he is right! I am a bad fan, I had better start giving more!"... Hell no. All it does is piss people like me off and make me want to tell them to shove it.
