I officially give DD permission to completely ignore the LSU game - treat it as a scrimmage and act like that team is the Raiders. We don't have time to prepare for both, so we start off Fall preparing for MTSU - play our canned hunt game in Baton Rouge for the check and stay healthy - so that we can watch their film against Bama and beat them down like little bitches.

Wow, this thread is still going? A little known restaurant in Denton is out on Ft Worth Drive/HWY 377 - it is called Mi Ranchito and is awesome. Lunch is about $4.00 - $5.00 bucks and comes with free iced tea. I would reccomend the Sour Cream Chicken Enchilades. Stay away from the queso, it sucks - this place is a REAL Mexican Restaurant, not a Tex-Mex place. Salsa is excellent and they bring you out this free soup before your meal (it is like charro beans with little pieces of hot dogs in it, lol - but it is ohhh so good)... I used to make sure that I got the Spicy Pasta from Sweetwater everytime I was back in town - now I try to split it between Mi Ranchito, Sweetwater, and Hooyah's. I just discovered Chipotle here is Ft Worth and they are exactly like Hooyah (except they cost more) - great burrito though (and I manage a Mexican Restaurant for a living, lol)...

I meant your last CUSA game of 2003... and I thought it was either Louisville or Southern Miss... just guessed the wrong one. Anyways, my post was meant to be a comment on how quickly rolls can change. Two years ago people were calling TCU the next Tulane, but this time with a more open chance at getting in because of a weaker BCS field... Then last year they were calling Utah the next TCU (and asking if they could "finish" - unlike the Frogs did)... Now we hear people calling schools like Boise and BGSU, the next "Utah"... Heck, I think Utah will be the next Utah. They seem to have kept things together there for the most part; take away QB and Coach... but I think that the infrastructure for that team is still basically in place.
-
That is funny, a year ago people were calling Utah the next TCU.... remember that TCU was the team that ALMOST busted the BCS bubble first. They just got killed in their last CUSA game (Louisville, I think) - then they gave that lame ass excuse about not going to the GMAC bowl so they could play in the inaugural Ft Worth Bowl... and then Boise came down and beat them at home, OUCH. They haven't rebounded since. But going into that Louisville game, TCU was ranked like #9 in the Nation and there were BCS busting talks about.

Who Will NORTH TEXAS Beat By The Largest Margin

The Troy game is in Denton on a Tuesday night - but on ESPN2 - so you can catch it on TV if you are really interested. Shouldn't conflict with the Idaho/San Jose showdown that will be on at 11 p.m. Central Time and played in front of 5K people in the Hanger -

I got my pilot's cetificate up at Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, OK - probably best known for producing Dennis Rodman (when they were NAIA)... and for having high stakes Choctaw Indian Bingo... they have a VERY politically incorrect school nickname/mascot - the Savages -

We have our own STOOOOOOPID stories... they are just handled in house and very, very quietly. Good thing that they shipped that pesky Tim MacMahon off to Frisco, he was starting to actually ask some hard questions.

NM State is a long ways away - but they are a long ways away from EVERYTHING (except El Paso).. so they are kinda used to travelling.

I don't think it is a program from the game. If you read the description, it says that it was released at a Sun Carnival in like 1996 or something.... Then the front page/cover says it is the 25th Anniversary Edition... so maybe it covers all the games from the history of the Sun Bowl. Perhaps it is a misprint; but if you are interested - I would e-mail the seller and clarify exactly what the contents are. His description starts off with this: 68-page SUN BOWL program for game played 1996. SUN CARNIVAL events, local advertising, complete program for the game with photos and stats, starters, coaches, more. Excellent condition.

I also noticed that CSTV was only able to buy ONE game on a national non-cable network (ABC) - their deal with the Mountain West was supposed to guarantee them 5 (of which I cried "no possible way when it was announced). If you want to get really technical about it; they have 3 total "National" Broadcasts - if you count ESPN as a Nationally Broadcast game channel - which I do... but the deal specifically called for CSTV to pay for Network Broadcasting Rights for non-cable channels for a minimum of 5 games. I ahe to give them credit for convincing ESPN to sell them the airspace to show two of those games (even though it does not meet the contract guidelines)... So there is one game on ABC and there are a couple of games on ESPN for them (Air Force at Utah and CSU at UNM) but you can't help but notice one small thing... ...the promise/deal that the MWC gave TCU was that they would not have any wierd dates/start times for their West Coast games to accomodate TV - well, they are honoring their agreement - and in return - TCU is nowhere to be found in the MWC television package. So much for a better TV deal for TCU in the MWC. They might be getting paid a little more money; but they sure are not getting better exposure. They simply chose not to put them on TV as a result of those "negotiations"... Now, if TCU gets "hot" - I imagine that the MWC and CSTV will figure out a way to get them on TV; but until then - the Sun Belt looks to be getting better exposure then the MWC/TCU at this time. A lot of those games that were previously on ESPN-Regional are now making their ways to ESPNU - which is being added to a ton of cable affiliates each week, has already been added to Direct TV and will be added to Dish Network by the time football season rolls around. CSTV on the other hand is only available in certain markets (mostly in Western Coast cities) and is running at about $12.99 a month for the cities that can subscribe to it. Only one of the dish companies has picked it up so far and they are also charging an extra $13 bucks a month for that one channel alone. The real "value" of that whole MWC/CSTV deal was for CSTV to buy that network space of which we can see that they are not even coming CLOSE to living up to their end of the bargain.

Sorry Silver, it is my first day off from work in about 2 weeks and I have missed my GoMeanGreen discussions (on all levels) so I might be a little spastic today as I am pumped to be able to relax and chime in on things. Damn those Intranet firewalls that keep me off the board at work! I am sure that there are many on here that appreciate them though

I would totally agree with both Debbie and Sean... Whether your greek group is the "Mean Green Brigade" or RHA; it is all very much the same to me. It is another component that gets you involved with the University social life and gives you ties that bring you (and your dollars) back to the University for the rest of your lives. As far as my personal situation, I actually did come to North Texas because of the strong Greek system. I pledged at SE Okl State while earning my pilot's license/certificate and when I decided to come back to Texas for school, I looked at the Universities that had Sig Tau at them. North Texas had really never been an option for me when i was growing up and leaving high school - I grew up in Trophy Club and wanted to go "away" to college, not just be up the road from my parents. While deciding which chapter to transfer to, I looked at a lot of the Southland schools and North Texas (a school I had never even remotely considered in the past) was the absolute best fit for me. Now I have ill feelings about some things from North Texas. I had terrible counselors that gave me flat out incorrect information regarding my credits needed to graduate; thus postponing my graduation by a year and a half (I was running a start-from-scratch business on a shoe-string budget at the time). I also had several problems with the administrations' treatment of the Greek system; despite the Greeks providing 99% of the much needed "traditional college atmosphere" that North Texas badly need at the time. Since graduation there have been events such as Lupe/Murchison-gate, Kids Kornergate and Logo-gate (just to name a few) that have me convinced that the school could never make it as a true business enterprise; they just do things back asswords in many aspects. So in all, I do not have fond memories of the "University" as an organization - but I do have very fond memories of my time in Denton with my fraternity, running my first business, and following North Texas football. Now, if the poll was - which has my first loyalty - The Mean Green Football Team OR my fraternity? Then I would probably say the Mean Green Football Machine. But the poll was if my allegiance would be ranked higher for my fraternity or for North Texas (the university)... and I am sorry to say that my fraternity has always treated me with integrity, honesty, and respect while the University continues to ignore the opinions of the alumni AND the students and goes about business as usual doing things THEIR way (reagrless of our opinions); seemingly trudging forward without our blessings or concerns. Case in point - the whole logo situation. If you really read the papers and researched the topic (along with the amount of pointless dollars spent on that whole process); you will see that the University (as an entity) is not an organization that should be trusted. I will continue to support many of the organizations underneath the University umbrella such as the football team, certain admistrators, many on the BOR, and the student/alumni groups that give North Texas a traditional/unique college atmosphere. The NT Exes also seem to be moving forward again after several stalled efforts over the past decade. All that being said, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the individuals that put up with all of the BS assoicated with the beuracracy of North Texas and fight for our causes. Those like Deborah Leinart; the types that feel that they are "not accountable to 'these' people" just don't get it and can kiss my ass.
-
It is no different Southern Mustang. I served on all of those organizations and I would say that 90% of the leaders and members were Greek. Either a kid wants to have the full college experience or they don't; it is that simple. Some people commute and do not have the time or money to be as involved as they would like to be - but fr the most part, organizations will work with those people for dues/meetings exemptions. Heck, we had 3 football players in my fraternity including big old team captain Shane MacLaughlin. We worked around his schedule and he was able to add yet another set of experiences to his lifetime of memories made at North Texas.

Well if you believe strongly in it then put it back in your sig line by all means. Just don't try to pass it off as a quote by one of my heroes, Ronald Reagan... because he never said it. Heck, you can sign it as your own saying/belief since there is no person that it is attributed to. I am not offended by your quote; I am a moderate conservative as well. To lighten up this conversation a little; I have a server that works for me that was doing his check-out after his shift last night. He is very liberal and very vocal about being liberal - we always joke around with each other about it and both take each others' comments in good fun. There was a small ant crawling across my desk so I grabbed a notebook and killed it. He was absolutely astounded that I would kill a living being. I then asked him if he was pro-choice or pro-life (knowing fair well that he was a liberal "Pro-choice" type of guy)... as he was practically crying over my cruelty, I asked him, "So why does that ant have a right to life yet you believe a mother can terminate a human life?" Stumped him... he just smiled and said, "well, I was adopted so I guess I see things different"... My point: we all have our own set of beliefs and sometimes they contradict one another (it is called a double standard). This doesn't mean that we can't have a civilized conversation without resorting to name calling. If you believe in your (deleted) signature, simply make it your own - sign it off as your own saying. There is no other person claiming it; and you seem to believe in it - so back it up and put your name as the writer/quoted. Just don't try to pass it off on good old Ronnie, he never said it. By the way, I am Pro-Green

I thought that we were UNT by 1989.

Perhaps a few teams will just choose to play 11 games instead of 12. If you play 11 games - you have one less chance at losing because all you could schedule was a "canned hunt game" - as Adler would say, a guaranteed loss for a few extra bucks. A non-BCS school would have a great chance for the new 5th BCS Bowl with an undefeated 11-0 season over a 11-1 record with a loss against a team like LSU or UT-Austin. Also, it would give your team an extra "bye" week to rest up/recover from injuries. Finally, in order to qualify for a bowl - a team has to have OVER a .500 record. With an 11 game schedule, you only need to win 6 games to meet that requirement; but with a 12 game schedule a team would need 7 wins. I think we may see some schools opting to play 11 games over the allowed 12 because the extra money does not make up for all that they could lose just by trying to plug any old school into their schedule so they could claim to be keeping up with the Joneses by having that 12th game.

My new (been "bacl" with the company since February) had an intense training schedule. It was likened to pledgeship. If I had not already been through the head games and performed them myself; I would have taken much of it very personal. In fact, it is a weeding out process to see who really wants to be there/be a part of the Brinker family. We lost about 30% of our incoming class because they could never get past the "testing" phase. All of those were non-fraternity college grads. What being in a fraternity does is allow you to set a very tough goal, see it through, and be rewarded at the end of it. I went through school while opening a business, being in a fraternity, being an officer in the Interfraternity Council, being an elected member SA (now called SGA), and even managed to open & run a succesful business along the way. I will argue until the day I die that it was the virtues and work ethic instilled by my fraternity that gave me the tools and cofidence to accomlish so much at such a young age. Coincidentally, I give that same credit to similar organizations (such as Talons) that have similar set-ups for joining... they have the same "testing" phase for new members and there are rewards once the pledge process is over. Do kids in Greek/student orgs "hook up" with each other and drink alcohol? Sure they do. But so do the non-Greeks. It is just pointed out a lot more when the person doing it is wearing a Greek letter or Talons' shirt. There are some bad apple fraternities out there. But I think yuo will find that the majority of them were founded on the virtues of integrity. Those virtues carry you through your whole adult life. When I finally pass away; I know it will be my brothers of Sigma Tau Gamma that lay my body to rest and comfort my wife if need be. I trust them with my heart and soul.
-
The new rules "allows" for a 12th game - any school can choose to just play 11.
-
I put my fraternity - they have never screwed me over or lied to me.

Well, fill me in - what type of coverage do we get? -
Thanks - BTW - that quote is incorrect as well. I didn't know it when I asked you to tone it down; but I saw this post over on Voy and did a little research to see if it had any merit (it ended up to be true)... The quote is one of those urban legends that has grown on the internet. Unfortunately, it was never said by Reagan; just said TO him by someone... and then repeated by Bush. Here is the post about it from the Voy board (check the link afterwards for substantiation, that site is dedicated to finding whether or not internet information is fact or fodder, your particular quote happens to be fodder)... So if you want to keep the quote because you like it and believe in it, you might just want to take the "Ronald Reagan" attribute from it; because he never said it. Heck, it can be your own quote if you believe strongly in it; just don't pin it on one of my heroes (Reagan) please, he never actually said it. Here is the post and the link that backs it up: Actually that signature line has a couple of things wrong with it 1) It's a misquote. The text of the quote is wrong 2) It never happened. It's another one of those 'urban legend' quotes that was never said, and has recently morphed into GW Bush supposedly saying it. 3) Even the urban legend doesn't have Reagan saying the quote, It supposedly was said to him Check it out on http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/fetal.asp
