BTW - gotta give credit where credit is due... A very nicely called gameplan. Very open and very creative. We passed the ball to open up the run. Woody is something else! El Presidente is our saviour!

Last week hurt but tonight was sweet medicine for the wounds! Great game, great atmosphere, great win. If you were in town and didn't make it - you really missed out. Next up - TULSA!

Sorry about that. Tis a shame that a thread started by RV got hijacked by Plummy.

Need this link for work

Across the street from the stadium, next to the Super Pit; in the lot that the OLD President's House used to sit on. Coming up I-35 (from Dallas), you will take North Texas Blvd and take a right (past the Mickey D's) and towards the stadium. Park anywhere in that area or you can park for $$ in the stadium parking lot. Walk across the street to the Gateway Center and the Alumni Center is located in the lobby. It is a very nice place to go hang out in on game day. They have a nice and big Plasma Screen TV that is always tuned onto a football game (on game day) - and you can look through all the alumni memorabilia in there. Great place to hang out and get out of the heat. I would guess that for today, there will be drinks set up in the center and I think you will be impressed by how first class the whole concept is. Probably because Big Ben had his appendix taken out. They had to add a player to the roster so that they had a QB... so they probably had to take one person off the active roster and PC was low man on the totem pole. Looks like he just barely made the cut!

Ok, was I reading the same thread? You guys said that the shorts did not match. If they were all wearing khaki then I take back EVERYTHING that I just posted. From the posts, I read it to understand that some of them had on other color shorts. If this is incorrect, again - I apologize to Debbie, the band, and the band director. I am not one to complain that they didn't have the same "shade" of khaki, that would be pretty petty, lol...
-
They also have the players swallow a freaking "pill thermometer" before the game so that their super computer can measure their temps from the inside out. Meanwhile, we have our players asking each other "Does my forehead feel hot to you?" as our means... They did look pretty ridiculous out there in their "space suits" - looked like at any moment, the players would be placed into a space shuttle and whizzed off to the moon! They don't even have those space suits in the pros; only at tU.

I miss Dr Pohl. He was pro-athletics and wasn't afraid to say it. Pohl went before the BOR and pleaded the case for the new Athletic facilities. It doesn't sound like this lady will do that. Meanwhile, Dr Pohl is on the short list for the ASU Chancellor's spot. That hurts.

Kind of what I was thinking. Doesn't everyone own some khaki shorts? To me it is a matter of pride. If I was in the band, I wouldn't want to look messy. I am pretty sure that I could figure out a way to either wear my khaki shorts or buy some if I didn't own any. This is not a question of MONEY, this is about our music program forcing our music majors to be in marching band. They are young and screaming "Individualism" - because they are "artists".. so what should we do? Tell the band director to grow a set of balls and TELL the members to wear the same damn shorts and to SHOW SOME PRIDE. The director did not either A) Think of this crazy concept or B ) - Thought of it but did not enforce it... either way, it sounds like we looked very unmatched and cluttered. Any kid in America that is attending college can afford to go to Old Navy or Target and buy some $10 khaki shorts. We don't need a "fundraising" drive on GMG.com to clothe our band - we need a band director that does his job. Sorry Debbie, but this is something that a lot of us feel passionately about. Do you think the AD dresses the cheerleader from head to toe? What about the football players? Who pays for their mandatory shirt and tie that they have to wear on the busses/planes to away games? A lot of those players come from much more torn budgets then our band members. Again, this is about pride.

I don't know his entire story but he was originally recruited by Arkansas (I believe) but didn't have the grades... that sent him to a JUCO where he must have either had trouble with grades or had an injury; because he did something that RARELY happens at the JUCO level, he redshirted. He played the next year (last year) but got hurt and didn't finish the season... which is probably why we were able to recruit him. He could be a real diamond in the rough. BTW, since he redshirted at the JUCO, he has 3 years of eligibility left... He could be our QB this year, NEXT year, and the YEAR AFTER... IF - he keeps his grades up... and he doesn't get knocked senseless running around in the backfield.

I am glad to see that the AD has ditched the Family Fun Pack for the SMU game... some of their fans were planning on cheaping out and sitting in the NT section rather than their own... Good move RV, $25 bucks a ticket should be nothing for an SMU fan that probably paid $80K for his education. BTW - at work, we have one SMU grad and she is the biggest idiot on the planet. I think we get a tax credit for letting her work there - kind of like the mentally challenged working at a grocery store

Geez, the powers that be (the pollsters) are sure slanted with the BCS teams. OU had to come back in the 4th quarter to (barely) beat UAB and yet they went up in the polls - TCU beats Baylor on the road, more then covering the spread and they go down in the polls. Makes perfect sense!

Scott continues to lead, this time by example - off the field... he is helping to rebuild New Orleans. Class Act till the end.

Back to Business as Usual...Ugh! 56-7?
stebo replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually, we were favored to win by 4 - then the betting began... now we are 5.5 dogs. It takes a LOT of money to push the line almost 10 points. The betting world is betting on SMU. This is a big game. -
I get what you are saying but Colt is a product of that system. The other QB looked pretty bad against us... but Colt looked "serviceable"- Vince Young, he is not. I think that this Texas team will do fine this year but not repeat; the odds are against them. We will find out next week just how good we are and they are. Yesterday didn't really tell me anything other then the fact that we should start Wilson at QB.
-
While I agree with you as a neutral fan - as a North Texas fan, I can assure you that if NT wins the SMU game, then Dickey can end the season with 4 wins and still keep his job.
-
Good post. I still say that Dickey isn't going anywhere until the end of the season. It won't be until we watch a 2nd Sun Belt team go to OUR bowl that we will see Dickey leaving. We should still be able to beat our Conference Competition; if not - then he will have to go... heck, he might even leave on his own. Dickey is a good man. This is about wins and losses.
-
Great job guys, I think she is winning now... The fix is in, just ask Eric Pennymoney about the power of NT online voting!

Patrick Cobbs, #40, makes Steelers final roster
stebo replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
With Big Ben having emergency surgery to remove his appendix this weekend, I expect to see a lot of running out of Pittsburgh this Thursday.... Maybe Cobbs will get some action. They only have one backup QB (Charlie Batch) - the next one on the list is a WR and is for emergency situations only. -
Ok, I know that we have overplayed the whole "tear down the goal post" thing - but is it a little much for Arkansas State to tear them down after a win over Army to start the season?
-
One last thing, the Belt has a cheerleader in second place for the Athlon Sideline Spirit competition. Take 5 seconds out of your day and go vote for the little hottie from FIU... VOTE HERE
-
BTW - during the WKU/Georgia game - the coach was interviewed and announced that they would be moving up to IA and playing in the Sun Belt soon. They put up a respectable showing yesterday and I welcome them into our fledgling conference.
-
The conference has come a LONG ways. On top of the good numbers, every single home team won their game. No losses to IAA's... a win over Army... and a heated contest between two Sun Belt teams. The Belt is getting better.

We respect Rick because not only is he a great FAN, he is a great FRIEND. But throw friendship aside. If you look along the sidelines of any home game, you will see our few precious traditions still in place BECAUSE of Rick. The Model A, the cannon, and even the freaking flag that we run after we score... those are just a few things that I know for a FACT would not be in place if not for the hard work and diligence of my friend Rick. Throw in the tailgating parties, a fan spirit shop that pushed the department to get with the program for spirit items, and the tens of thousands of dollars that he has single handedly raised and spent and you are really bitching about the wrong MAN. Here is a quick lesson for you on this man's character. After a 2-9 season, most of our fans decided to take the offseason to reflect and heal. Rick raised $2K by going straight to the President of the school. Once granted - nobody wanted to actually cut the check... He took that on as a challenge and lobbied to get the money released for the next few months. Finally, when the check was cut - he didn't announce it on this board... he took it and went to work building a new accessory for the cannon. The man has done abuot $15K bucks worth of handywork (by himself) - turning that $2K into a new tradition that will roll out onto the sidelines of the SMU game. I can't think of another human that is more generous than Rick when it comes to NT and his time, blood, sweat, and tears. There are a lot of people that you can attack on this board and I will keep my mouth shut. Hell, you could even attack me - I am not half the fan that Rick is. There are but a dozen fans that are truly diehard NT fans - Harry, LoRo, Rick, Silver, Brad and Vickie, Denny, Adler, Soundman... they are untouchable in my book. Back off man.
