Jesus, that money was donated 3 years ago! How long is this guy going to hold this over our heads? Since then - he has spent one other significant amount on the team, which I will always appreciate... paying for the entire team and staff to go to Drew's funeral (and paying for the funeral itself). But since then, it hasn't really been anything other then the normal donations. Someone needs to explain to Mattress Mac that a check written 3 years ago is cashed and spent at UNT. You can't be an indian giver when it comes to donations.

Flyer, it doesn't bother you that those conference championships were made up of wins over sub .500 teams? Did you know that DD has had 7 wins over teams above .500 in his entire 9 years? Only a couple of those were Belt wins (Muts in 2001 and NMSU a couple of years ago), all the other wins were against teams that were below .500... and those Sun Belt teams below .500 had no excuse, they were playing a bunch of other crappy teams as well.

Agreed, I think he would more lilkely be telling them that so that they would perform in the last 3 games. Saying it sarcastically, "Well, they told me I couldn;t recruit - what do you guys think about that?" = GUYS REACTION: "That's bullsh!t Coach, you can recruit, you got me away from XXX State and XXX State... and I am a pretty damn good football player - I am going to show those sumbitches how wrong they were!"

There is a movie made about Hayden Fry when he was coach at NT - simply called "Coach"- it is a documentary made by the film department from the 70's. Ironically, the tv show based on Fry was simply title "Coach" a couple of decades later. There are some pretty incredible things in that movie, one scene has Hayden Fry on stage with Bob Hope at some sort of rally and he gets Hope to wear a North Texas hat. The other is where Fry makes a single statement to the press that is very Howard Scnellenberger like... He said, "Someone has to be the #1 team in the country, and I don't know why it can't be North Texas" (or something to that effect). My dream coach would have this attitude and be vocal about it. I have never met Fry, never saw even one of his games that he coached, nor have I met many people outside of the Mean Green World that even knew that he had coached at NT before going to Iowa.... but I have the deepest respect for the man for that one statement. O'Leary has that attitude at UCF. Mike Price has that attitude at UTEP. TCU has that attitude. Boise has that attitude. We can have that attitude. We do not need to settle for Sun Belt titles. That will be step one in getting us back on track. Our overall goal should be to finish ranked in the top 12 of the BCS polls and play in one of the major bowl games. Period, end of story. I want a coach that will tell me that - and BELIEVE IT.

I talked to not one, not two, but three people - TODAY - that told me about Ramon acting like a little cry baby in the practice. Walking around chatting on his cell phone, saying negative shit as loud as he could so that the players could obviously hear him. At first I thought that letting this staff work through the last few games was a good idea; now I am seeing that this is a very bad idea. RV is a coach, he needs to let Dickey and Flanny go - strap on the clipboard, and get out there and coach it himself. Funny thing is, I bet that RV would probably win a game or two; which is more then I can say for this lame duck coaching crew. Maybe they will make me eat ... C-R-O... WAIT, I am not doing that again! But maybe they will make me eat me words

The day that Idaho announced their new/old football coach (Erickson?), they put season tickets on sale - and sold 7,000 of them. I doubt that their schedule was completely in place. People buy the tickets to make a statement and to say "THANK YOU!" - in fact, they should put them on sale this week - I bet a lot of people that have dropped out of the Mean Green nation will be right back in the saddle now that Dickey is gone.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Former Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar was ruled ineligible Wednesday to play for Sam Houston State this season but will return in 2007 with two years of eligibility remaining. Bomar and offensive lineman J.D. Quinn were kicked off the Sooners' squad in August for accepting payment for more work than they performed at a car dealership, a violation of NCAA rules. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Bomar transferred to Sam Houston and Quinn to Montana, both Division I-AA schools. Quinn also was ruled ineligible by the NCAA but will be allowed to play next season, Montana associate athletic director Dave Guffey said. "I am happy to get this behind me," said Bomar, who has been allowed to practice with the Bearkats. "I look forward to having the opportunity to represent Sam Houston State. This decision today will help take the focus off me and put the focus on the team." Bomar, from the Dallas area, was one of the nation's top recruits in 2004. He redshirted, then threw for 2,018 yards and 10 touchdowns as a freshman at Oklahoma last year. The NCAA ordered the players to give the extra money they earned from the dealership to charities of their choice. Bomar owes $7,406.88, and Quinn owes $8,137.17. The NCAA said the players were paid for work they said they performed during "times when they were attending class, eating dinner or at football practice." Oklahoma also told the NCAA the student-athletes "began the practice of clocking one another in and out, dependent on who arrived first and left last each day." In addition, the NCAA said Bomar and Quinn did not notify or receive approval from the school's compliance staff for their employment and never signed a required notification form for work during the academic year. "Obviously, we would have liked for him to able to play in games this season," Sam Houston coach Todd Whitten said. "But, with his experience working with the squad this fall and spring training ahead next year, we look forward to having him as a Bearkat for the next two seasons." Montana athletic director Jim O'Day said the school wouldn't have any comment on the NCAA's decision.

What Level Should A New UNT Head FB Coach Come?
stebo replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Ok, I'll play. First of all - JJ has not been a bust. The team that he took over was in absolute dissaray. He has gotten us back to .500 ball. He also had to start from scratch. The day that he walked onto campus, our number one player actually chose to ignore the fact that we would not release him from his scholarship and in turn - he paid his own way to play at OSU. Ouch, that is how bad the situation was with basketball folks. JJ has been a bandaid, that's about it - but he was the best damn bandaid that we could find/afford. Edge: RV Secondly, the softball coach left on her own. She was unstable and I have heard some nightmare stories about her taking the team into a room and just talking and talking and talking into the wee hours of the night. Then asking each of them about their personal lives, etc... she had also handles leaving her previous position in a similar manner. I know that most on here don't really care too much about softball, but she really turned out to be a terrible hire. Luckily we rid ourselves of her naturally. Edge: bad hire Hedlund has been here since the program was founded. He is the only soccer coach that we have ever had; and probably will be around for a long time. The one thing that I am critical about RV and Co for failing to do is give this man a significant raise. He has had some contract extensions; but the money hasn't exactly been attached to those extensions. Edge: toss-up Slinker, well what are you gonna do. She was the only one that wanted the job for the longest time and fans really didn't seem to care either way. When asked for a donation, you didn't hear fans screaming, "Only when you fire that terrible women's basketball coach!" - then, just as she was probably at the end of her rope... she started winning. A couple of NIT visits, a couple of divisional championships in the Belt. She recruits well, she runs a squeaky clean program, and she never complains. If you think that the guys have had it tough, fighting for playing time against intramurals in the PEB - you probably don't want to ask Slinker what tough really is. All of those wrongs are being righted now over at the Mean Green Village/Liberty Christian - but they are WAY overdue. Dickey - well, name a time when he could have been fired (by RV). RV got here - after Dickey was put on a very short leash (post ULM game 2001) - he started winning. Otherwise he was to be let go. Well, I'll be damned if that somebitch has just kept winning, year after year after year. You cannot fire a coach that is winning his conference even if you really want to. Dickey has made the most of his tenure, getting raises and extensions and donations. We have all come out winners by his winning ways. Last year those winning ways came to a stop and some fans wanted him gone... but most didn't. Most fans wanted to give him that one year to rebuild. In fact, some of the most vocal Dickey opponents were Dickey apologists over the last 5 years. It is now his time to go and I think that he is pretty aware of it. So where will RV find his replacement? Well, if you ask me - RV will dip back into the pool that he knows best, Southern Miss. I have heard speculation everywhere from Jerry Glanville (now at Hawaii) to Todd Dodge at Southlake Carroll. I am going to guess that RV has never spoken to either one of them fellas. RV seems to be the type of guy that will want to hire someone that he knows or knows of. That is my best guess. As I have tried to show above, he is about 50/50 on hires and retentions; so we have a pretty good chance of bringing in someone that will win. Southern Miss is much like us, they have to sit in the big schools shadows - and they are just now getting their budget up to a respectable amount (much like us)... most of the troubles that we face on a day-in/day-out basis are problems that a coach from USM will already be used to. So my answer is not really in your poll anywhere - my answer would be - E) A familiar IA coach that RV has watched work before and has shown to him that he has a good work ethic + would understand the problems that we have to overcome each day + would work hand in hand with RV rather then in spite of him or against him. The last thing that RV wants is to have to worry about his coach airing dirty laundry over the airways anymore. Either on the radio, on the TV, or in person - he wants a team player, someone that he can trust... and you don't usually find someone like that by interviewing strangers. -
What he said. Plumm is a moron.

Are they for friends? Maybe extra tickets for season ticket holders to bring along some guests?

Last I checked, we are averaging about 19,500 per game this year (through 3 home games). That is 2/3 of the way full on the average - not bad for a team that just won its second game. They cover crappy ass SMU and those guys average less then us.
-
Is it on tape delay? I just pulled up the MASN schedule for my Direct TV and it shows the La Tech game on at the same time as our game. It was the same thing with the ULM game last week, tape delayed about 3 hours.

Statistically, we play much better in the rain. I forget the exact numbers; but under Dickey we are like 85% more likely to win a road conference game if it is in the rain. Now that includes both Big West and Sun Belt affiliations, not just the Belt years. At one time... when we were suffering really bad, our fans prayed for rain (I think that I saw the team doing a rain dance when they landed in Boise a few years back ;0)

I have made that drive - it is about 7 hours going fast and 8 hours going slow. Not a bad drive at all. Jonesboro is.... different. I honestly expected to see the outhouses in the front yards bit when we were in Tennessee but low and behold, the Murf was pretty pleasant... Jonesboro is what I had pictured Murfreesboro to look like (but then again, we got lost and ended up on an unpaved road - banjos started playing in my ears)

Boise only needs a top 12 finish to GUARANTEE a BCS bowl slot. The can get in with as low as a #16 spot if there is not a BCS team champion ranked higher then them to replace them (i.e. Pittsburgh a couple of years ago). As for the National Championship, Boise has almost no shot at that.
