  1. Just think, if we had just won 7 freaking games this year - which should have been a breeze with any other coach - we would probably be bowling. We should have beat FAU, we should have beat La Tech, we should have beat ASU, and we should have beat ULM. That is 7 wins my friends, 7 wins. Heck, we should have beat Tulsa and Akron, too...that would have been 9 wins and a FOR SURE bid for a bowl!
  2. Well, maybe the Texas Bowl will change their minds since they won't be able to get a Texas team in it for its inaugural year, lol.
  3. CBS has these- Motor City Bowl Dec. 26, 2006 At Detroit Central Michigan (MAC) vs. Middle Tennessee (Big Ten No. 7) (replaced by Sun Belt) Chippewas seeking first-ever bowl victory; upset loss to Troy doesn’t deny Middle Tennessee’s first-ever bowl berth. New Orleans Bowl Dec. 22, 2006 Troy (Sun Belt No. 1) vs. East Carolina (C-USA) Troy earns this spot after surprising Middle Tennessee State by a point; East Carolina looks to improve upon all-time 4-3 bowl mark. **Geez, I know that E Carolina fans do travel - but will they travel to this one? Finally - the irony of the century. In the very first year of the "Texas Bowl" in houston (yeah, the one that has a tie in with every Texas Scool except North Texas) - they predict a line-up of: Texas Bowl Dec. 28, 2006 At Houston Kansas State (Big 12) vs. Rutgers (Big East) First-year K-State coach Ron Prince gets off on right foot; Rutgers tubs its toe down the stretch after a 9-0 start. Meanwhile, guess who is on their way to San Diego? Poinsettia Bowl Dec. 19, 2006 At San Diego TCU (MWC No. 2 or 3) vs. UCLA (at-large) Horned Frogs stay strong following 11-1 season; proximity is the biggest reason why Bruins an attractive choice. (yes, I know that playing UCLA is a better bowl then the opponent that they would have gotten in the Texas Bowl - but it is funny that they went so far out of their way to get this tie-in with the Houston Bowl and now I would guess that MAYBE 500 of their fans go to Cali for the inaugural Pointsetta Bowl.... against a team that will probably have more 9/10 of the stands filled. Nothing in their predictions about our other two teams going bowling, but there are a lot of 6-6 teams that cannot be picked over 7-5 teams if they are not a PRIMARY designated team for the bowl game. In other words, if a bowl has a contract with the Pac 10 and the Mountain West (let's even throw in that this bowl has back-ups - with tie-ins to the WAC and MAC as those back-ups) - and the Pac 10 or Mountain West are missing one or even two 6 win teams.... then the option goes to the WAC and the MAC - BUT ONLY AS LONG AS THEIR AVAILABLE TEAMS HAVE at LEAST 7 WINS - under the new rules, 6 wins won't cut it if there are other 7 win at large teams out there, contract or not... so the spot automatically becomes at large and the bowl had to pick someone else with at least 7 wins (yes, even Sun Belt teams - and you thought our conference membership was worthless, shame on you!). The only loophole that there seems to get around this would be if the Pac 10 or the MWC had two available 7 win teams from either conference and the bowl chose to re-match conference mates in a bowl game rather then HAVE to pick from another conference (such as the Belt)... which is conceivable, but HIGHLY unlikley. I had no idea that these new bowl rules would help the Belt so much! If you can't tell, I am very chipper!
  4. Did Bennet get fired? Is SMU coming after Dodge? What am I missing here?
  5. We should be rooting for SLC, not against them. If Dodge is able to accomplish his goal of winning a state championship with his son at QB this year, then he may think that it is time to go out on a high note. If they were to lose, he might want to take one more stab at it next year when Riley is a senior. I know that it pushed back the hiring date a little, but he would be worth the wait!
  6. Actually, after looking at his back posts (just click on his name) - I am pretty sure that this poster is not an ex player or coach - I think that I know exactly who it is. Bitter till the very end, doesn't mind vocalizing it - maybe he should start his own board, lol.
  7. Actually he has been in charge of raising over $12 million bucks in the last 5 years. He has increased our athletic budget to a respectable amount. And he has been the recipient of not one, not two, but three million dollar donations. One of those can be attributed to Matress Mack - of which we only got because he made DD wear his ridiculous hat on national tv in order to finally fork it over... The Warranch Tennis Facility came from a $1.3 million dollar donation and they didn't even want their name attached to it at first, thought it would be too flashy - but RV insisted on rewarding them with the naming. The latest $1.5 million dollar donation is another no-strings-attached donation to jumpstart the stadium fund. I don't see the Goldfields demanding anything in return for it the way that Futon Frank did. Also, the most important donation of all was the raising of the student service fee - which RV orchestrated. Regardless of how it eventually was implemented, it was his baby - he saw it through and refused to take no for an answer. I get the feeling that our new poster is probably a certain ex-coordinator or player... DD has them all so brainwashed with that bunker mentality that they cannot see the forest from the trees. RV has SAVED the Mean Green program, plain and simple.
  8. The Belt is getting better. Four teams with more then 6 wins. No losses to IAA teams this year. Quality wins over SMU, Memphis, Houston, Army, and E Michigan would not have been there in the past either. To top it off, this past week the attendance was low at a couple of Belt schools but as a whole, we are all averaging MUCH higher attendance (across the board) then in previous years. If we get three teams into bowl games and win one or two, the Belt's reputation will go way up. Things are much better in the Belt, much better.
  9. I don't know about the headlock part of it, but there definitely was another altercation. I am glad to see it published, RF is a piece of crap and does not deserve to work in the college football profession. Not only is he an a-hole, he is a terrible example for kids to look up to. This guy gets into fights with fans, sucks the life out of players that are on his shit list, and gets into altercations with fellow coaches - he deserved to be exposed and I am sure happy that he finally has been.
  10. Isn't Koetter the guy that turned Boise into a top 25 team? I guess that he has had problems adjusting to the game at ASU but he sure did a great job at Boise State. Maybe we should be looking at him?
  11. According to CFN, they predict Troy to win the Belt and go to the New Orleans Bowl and for the MUTS to get an at large bid to the Motor City Bowl because the Big 10 cannot fill all of their spots and any at large spots must go to a 7 win team over a 6 win team according to NCAA rules http://cfn.scout.com/2/557866.html My how the Belt has grown up! 4 bowl eligible teams with 2 going bowling!
  12. Taken down for my good ole buddy FFRick...
  13. I just saw these posted on an earlier thred, sorry about that - interesting that the news is picking up on this so much though...
  14. Here is the first, from a North Texas alumnus: http://www.cadenhead.org/workbench/news/30...oach-black-mood Here is the newest: http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/?p=2853
  15. Butler expressed interest - RV let the USM folks know out of courtesy (obviously Butler didn't want to run and tell his boss that he was looking for another job, DUH!) - and that is how an interview is set up. This is standard procedure folks, you don't want coaches sneaking around, trying to get jobs behind their current empoyer's back. It makes that candidate look "Fran-like" easpecially if they don't get the gig! In addition to it being a common sense thing to do, I think that it might be the rules - you have to ask permission to talk to a coach about a job when he is already under contract somewhere else. Butler is not allowed to ask for that permission, the school that wants to interview him has to. Man, I swear - people really knee-jerk at the smallest sh*t. *keep it clean
  16. Still sitting at one lonely guy that didn't see this coming, lol - I guess he was living in a cave or something.
  17. FIU football coach Strock to resignBY PETE PELEGRIN ppelegrin@miamiherald.com Florida International University football coach Don Strock, whose team is 0-9 and mired in the longest losing streak in the team's young history, will resign after the season. Strock, who has a 15-38 record since the Golden Panthers began playing in 2002, will coach the team's final three games, starting with Saturday's home game against Louisiana-Lafayette. Strock, a former Dolphins quarterback, was named FIU director of football operations in 1999 and head coach in 2000. The Golden Panthers have played solidly defensively this season but the offense is ranked near the bottom of most NCAA Division I categories.
  18. One person was surprised, lol - geez, i wonder who that is - shaft
  19. So far, about what i thought - Shaft was shocked... everyone else knew it was coming.
  20. Personally, I think that there was absolutely zero surprise to the announcement. I was expecting it right when it happened.
  21. Trilli to lead Buster athletics Jarrod Schmidt Media Credit: Jarrod Schmidt Vic Trilli starts his fourth year at Garden City Community College as the new athletic director. Trilli hopes to maintain Perryman´s caliber of teams that he has seen go through the Busters´ athletic program. Being a big brother to 10 siblings has helped shaped Vic Trilli's approach to any job. As the new Broncbuster athletic director, Trilli is set to mentor the coaches, athletes and members of the Bronbusters Athletic Association. "I think a lot of what I do is a result of where I came from, my upbringing," Trilli said. "I would get up at 5:30 a.m. and go deliver papers, go back to eat breakfast and make sure all my brothers and sister were up before I went to school, that's why I'm a morning person." Trilli, who officially started in his role as athletic director Jan. 2 has lived in Garden City for three years and has worked as an assistant to Dennis Perryman who retired in December. "It's been a smooth transition over the past three years. I think all along it was part of Dennis' plan for him to get me as far along as he could," Trilli said. Trilli said he and Perryman have known each other since Trilli's days as a basketball player at Sheridan College, Sheridan, Wyo. Perryman and Trilli later coached against each other in Texas. Trilli recruited Perryman's son Brandy to play for the University of Texas. "My three years here with Dennis only cemented the respect and admiration in all that he's been able to do," Trilli said. Trilli said he wants to maintain the caliber of team's Perryman has helped bring to the Broncbuster program citing his role is to provide support to the student athletes, something he doesn't do alone. "I don't know where we'd be without this community's support and its willingness to support," Trilli said. Trilli said he is a firm believer that the athletic department is part of the entire educational process and system at GCCC. "When it's all said and done I'm a junior college kind of guy," Trilli said. "I love the opportunities it provides for everyone. The four-year schools don't allow you to reach out and touch someone. The guidelines are too strict and they forget about the student athlete and human side of things." Trilli said he has lived by the motto 'If it is to be, it's up to me,' all of his life leading him to surrounding himself with people who have passion to do their job with a high energy level. "I am forever thankful to be here and have this opportunity," Trilli said recalling that he was once a student athlete who got a chance at a school similar to Garden City. "Now I have the opportunity to give back and help people along the way."
  22. Actually, they field more teams then us... both of them have baseball.
  23. I am happy for Deavon Cox, but why in the hell did we not use James Mitchell during this game? I can totally understand why the lad is put out with Ramon Flannigan.
  24. TROY TROJANS since going 1-A in 2001 Only 2 losing seasons 1 bowl game wins over Mississippi State Missouri UAB Marshall(twice) Troy athletic buget: 10 mill. UL athletic budget: 8 mill. 25. LOL, well - I know that it probably wasn't cashable... but it was a commitment to a donation for the athletic center. That donation was pledged after the NMSU game in 2003. Actually it was unveiled at a basketball game shortly after the NMSU game but it was a result of Dickey wearing that goofy blue hat during the NMSU game in 2003. It certainly has already been spent and used already. If he wants the practice fields to be named after Dickey then simply ask for that and we can let him give another $250K to pay for it. As it is, he donated that money to help pay for the athletic center - which is built already.
